- I filmed a typical day of revision over the Easter holiday. Apologies for the delay in this video going up, I have been away in Scotland on a geology field trip (video to follow next week)!
My name's Paige and I am in my first year studying Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge. I am a member of Jesus College and make regular vlogs of my day to day life at uni, including lectures, supervisions, and social activities.

ADRIAN GEE I don't attend Oxford so check their website for the best information. You need to apply by 15th October 2018 to attend next year (2019). After they have all the applications they will send letters/emails inviting some people to an interview. After the interviews they decide who they will make offers to. Both Oxford and Cambridge will give out their offers around January 10th 2019. When you get your results you will then know for certain if you have met their requirements or not. The semesters at Oxbridge start early at early September. You can apply through UCAS or directly to Oxford (almost everyone in the UK uses UCAS). Like I said, I don't go to Oxford so check their website / UCAS for all the information.

For learning to type i used a game called 'typing of the dead'. Zombies come towards you and every letter you type is like a bullet. Motivational stuff!!

Omy you’re such an inspiration! My exams are coming too and I’m feeling quite stressed. Finally a revision video from you after quite a while :)
How i learned typing in 12th grade (I'm American). My mother made me take the class, i was so surprised she was driving this--she never interfered in my class choices before. I was nowhere near as fast as she was, on a manual typewriter, but i was very free of mistakes. I got bored with the exercises and began to type in German, which involved another machine and practice of umlauts and other uniquely German thingies. It was not a strict class, and was one of the last subjects i took. I don't think it matters that all this was done in 1977, and i had never seen a real computer keyboard yet.
I love your videos, they bring back the memory that Cambridge was what i dreamed college should be like. In my college, they closed the libraries on weekends, no one used them, they said. People were partying bigtime. I transfered to the University of California at Santa Cruz, and it was a party school too. I majored in physics but it was not a respected subject as a major.

For advice on touch typing -- I can type up to 100WPM according to the typing tests and can type without looking. I would REALLY recommend just not looking at the keyboard and trying to type. You get used to it eventually because of muscle memory. You may be slow at first, but you eventually speed up.

i love the realness of your videos! i can relate with the workload :) Also, for typing quicker, I actually only use my thumb, point and middle finger to type (thumbs for spacebar) and my pinky for delete. For me this works a lot better than with using all ten fingers bc for me it is a lot quicker and I dont have to look at my fingers or the keyboard when I type. Hope this helps

My school got us to use one of many websites for learning to touch type then we’d have to write ‘the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog’ which uses every letter of the alphabet to get quicker. I haven’t practised in a while but it has made my typing a lot quicker

Ugh, tell me about panicking when you read the instructions for your report... I need to write two for my internship and they freak me out every time I look at the instructions!
I learnt how to type blindly at home with some book and stickers (which was a disaster for my dad because he had to look at the keys when he was typing which I made impossible with my little brightly coloured stickers LOL). The book is in Dutch though so unless you want to first learn Dutch and then how to type blindly I can't really recommend you any xD

there are many things that will help you type faster, but to get better at touch typing you just need to type. start a journal or something on your computer and type everyday. you can probably find practice typing worksheets on google to help you also.

For your left hand you place fingers 5,4,3,2 on A,S,D,F respectively. For your right hand you place your fingers 2,3,4,5 on J,K,L,;
Anyway resting your fingers on those keys will help, it's just muscle memory. Nice vid btw.

I try to do wpm tests everyday to improve my typing speed, there are also online resources that help you build the muscle memory to touch type

There are loads of software packages that can teach you touch typing 😊 you can practice a little at a time and before you know it, you'll be a whizz typist 😊
