    Hi everyone, welcome to Abbey's Kitchen! In today’s episode of CZcamsr reviews, we’ll be taking a look at lifestyle CZcamsr, Keltie O'Connor.
    A few disclaimers:
    1) The information in this video is for education and entertainment purposes only, so you should always speak to a health care provider about your unique health needs.
    2) The recommendations for each individual meal I review is designed to give you a variety of ideas on how to optimize meals for balance, variety and satiety. Whether or not one individual meal or even one day is balanced or “healthy” does not matter in the grand scheme of ones health, especially if a person is eating in response to their physical and emotional needs. I give suggestions as examples and inspiration for you, but you can also gather this data for yourself over time by listening to your own body and figuring out what feels good.
    2) Please be kind in the comments, here and on Keltie's channel
    3) TRIGGER WARNING: some graphics and discussions may be disturbing to some viewers so feel free to skip this video.

      I'm a big fan of what Keltie does and her videos are super informative on nutrition and exercise - she does deserve more followers but I wanna say she deserves more followers that are *informed* and *gets* what she does in her videos...not people seeking diet tips. I say this because many of her videos are NOT about "eating normally" nor does her "normal life" equate that of "normal people" - she lives a highly active lifestyle and she eats healthfully in accordance with her active lifestyle (she does "challenge" style videos of other people's diets/fitness routines for a short period of time while giving real information about how the routine is or is not sustainable or healthy and her "non-challenge" videos have to be taken by a "normal" viewer who does not have the highly-active lifestyle she has).
      I just wanted to comment this because I didn't know what you meant by "influencers who eat normally" but I assumed you meant aren't pushing for their viewers to buy diet products (teas, supplements, etc. as sponsored ads rather than actual food/workout info) or pushing a specific diet like keto, veganism, etc.

    I’m vegan and I wish EVERYONE would have Keltie’s Flexitarian ideals. 90% of people going 75% vegan/plant based (like while traveling, etc) makes WAY more difference than 5% of people, which is generous, going 100% vegan.

      For sure!!

    • @Raphtacular
      @Raphtacular Před 3 lety +48

      Absolutely agree. I would technically classify myself as a flexitarian - I'm vegetarian, but will eat vegan maybe 50% of the time (sometimes more depending on the week). But also being celiac, my options can be really limited, so occasionally (e.g. A few times a year) I might eat fish. I think if more people took the same approach there would be a massive reduction in how much animal product are consumed overall and that can only be a good thing.

    • @Pannenkoekenplantje
      @Pannenkoekenplantje Před 3 lety +27

      According to the planetary health diet (which is healthy for both people and the environment and actually sustainable to feed a world population), they recommend everyone eats plant based 4 days a week. That's pretty doable, as many people are hesitant to go vegetarian or vegan because they can't have their favorite meal ever again or feel inconsistent.

    • @MeganDurka
      @MeganDurka Před 3 lety +8

      @@Pannenkoekenplantje that’s super interesting! I’ve never heard that figure. Personally I have no problem being vegan now but I struggled very hard in the beginning and I know it’s not realistic for a lot of people to go through that. If I hadn’t been one of the few Americans with access to free therapy, I definitely wouldn’t be vegan

    I really feel good about our Nepali diet, ever since I was a teenager I always thought that our diet is not good enough because we lack "protein", given that our foods predominantly have very little to no meat and eggs. Watch Abbey and other RDs, mostly Sadia, taught me that there are so many plant based protein our diet has plenty of. The fact that we eat vegetarian food over 90% of the time and have meat and products once in a while, is not only helping our environment but also our health makes me proud of our diet.

    Those of us in the dietetics field and dietitians know that "everything in moderation is key" I love that Keltie doesn't demonize having some dessert that you enjoy. I believe that food should be enjoyable! Each of us can make small goals for ourselves to improving our nutrition because making too many goals at once is not realistic. Abbey I think it would be cool if you did a dietitian what I eat in a day or even a dietetic intern.

      @@jacksonthedoggy generally a mix is better. Plants not being “complete proteins” is debunked, but it is true that they have various proportions of amino acids and some can be low enough to require attention (leucine and methionine come to mind immediately) - so if you want to have the same completeness as whey protein, it’s better to mix plant sources instead of relying on one only. Pea and brown rice is usually a dependable, easy to find and foolproof combination. Hemp protein is nice too, and so is good old soy, but then it will depend on the mix and how each plant source complements the others in a given formula.

      Weird question. I think keltie eats balanced but her hair looks damaged and unhealthy. If you are consuming the right amount for your body and taking care of yourself wouldn’t your skin and hair show it too? It makes me wonder if she is disordered or is overexercising. When I was overexercising and not eating enough my hair looked dry brittle and thin. She could be perfectly healthy but I was curious if you could make a video on hair and how nutrition effects it. And how hormones effect how your hair and skin as well as how to balance your hormones out to fix them?

    Finding both Abbey's channel and Keltie's channel was such an eye opening, positive experience for me. I've never had a healthy relationship with my body, or with food, and seeing both Abbey and Keltie talk about honoring your hunger, respecting and trusting your body, moving more, and most importantly, not demonizing any foods while still focusing on nutrient dense whole foods has really made a difference in how I see myself, and how I view my food, in the best way possible. Not to mention in how I feel physically. So refreshing! I hope to see more people pushing an anti-diet culture going forward, because I think most of us can agree that the diet mentality has done more harm than good. Love you both! For what it’s worth, Ayurveda was never vegan to begin with. Milk and ghee are important remedies themselves or carriers for other active principles. Yogis are fond of dairy, also. It is a mainly western misconception. Even better, Ayurveda isn’t even vegetarian : its various treaties advocate use of animal flesh or broth in many instances (peacock, boar, often game meat but not only). 🤷🏻‍♂️

So discussing breakfast, then lunch, then dinner and discussing balance in the context of each meal and then the balance in the context of the day. I’ve been intuitive eating since my recovery from an ED a few years ago and I’m so happy you’re putting out mainstream content about it. I was hoping you could do a video about never feeling hungry. i had no idea the way i eat and think of my food style actually has a name, flexitarian! after i started recycling i learned more about the environmental impact of meat, that was my personal motivation, but the benefits i got ranged from getting better nutrition, actually more protein, learning to cook better and actually getting better nutrition for the same amount or less money! i'm glad there's content creators out here like abbey and keltie promoting the benefits of more plant based meals, maybe one day the older generations in my family will listen to the advice as well :P

    Hi my dear Abbey!
    I´ve been looking everywhere for that article that you mentioned in one of your videos, about French people, and how that country being the capital of butter, and wine and pastries have lower rates of obesity compare to America!
    I was having a nice chat with some med students, and they were talking about the problematic of eating for pleasure, and how that can cause obesity... so I wanted to discuss that article. Could you, or anyone who is reading this help me to find it? Thank you!!!
    -All my love, Liz
