On that diamond and sapphire pin, when she said altering the back of the pin devalues the value 1/2 , what ,nobody sees the back anyway, , so it should have been, 12 000, I think 1/2 off is a little extreme,

If your going to buy something like this you want it "perfect" The piece probably had several uses, it looked like it split down the centre like a buckle. So half off is about right, it would cost that to remove the added on gold

That's an interesting perspective! While it's true that the back of the pin might not be as visible as the front, alterations can still affect the overall value and integrity of the piece. Even small changes can impact the historical and aesthetic value of an antique item. It's always fascinating how different factors come into play when determining the value of collectibles. Do you collect jewelry or have any other items that hold sentimental or historical value for you?

Steif should rhyme with eye not bee. If we're being pedantic the s should be pronounced sh. Interesting items though.

You make a valid point about the pronunciation of "Steiff." It's always interesting how different words and names are pronounced across languages and regions. I'm glad you found the items interesting nonetheless! Is there anything else you'd like to discuss or any other observations you have about the antiques featured?

I would love to get appraisals for a few things I own, but there's no one around here that does that sort of thing.

That can be frustrating! If there aren't any local experts or appraisal events available, you might consider reaching out to online appraisal services or even attending virtual appraisal events. Some auction houses and antique dealers offer remote appraisal services where you can submit photos and descriptions of your items for evaluation. Additionally, there are online forums and communities where collectors and experts share their knowledge and may be able to offer insights into your items. Would you like some recommendations for online appraisal services or forums?
