    I’ve already been through this decision and after a few weeks of mulling the decision over - I bought the R1250GSA. It boiled down to I wanted something unique, the 1300 is modern yes, but has blended in with the others. Zeus has stepped down from his throne to mingle with the lesser gods.

    A very interesting take of the difference between the two bikes. For me, the critical factor is knee angle. I have a 1250 and have only sat on the 1300. I have a high seat and lowered pegs on my bike and the 1300 felt much more cramped. To be honest, it put me off the bike. I have quite long legs and fell that the 1300 would not be comfortable enough for me on a long ride. I do like the look of the new bike and I’m told that the wind protection is much better. As far and as brakes and power are concerned, I have enough on my 1250 and really don’t need any more. I hope that the rumoured 1400 might fix the comfort problem and still have the comfort I am used to. We will see! Cheers. C

      Thanks for sharing! I do actually wonder about "measureable" differences in sitting position on these two. Not sure how to measure it though. But in general the 1300 just looks smaller without necessarily feeling lighter when riding.

    Love reading these comments. I’ve had the 1150 gsa and 1200 gsa - it’s been a few years since I sold the 1200. In the market for a GS now and pondering either new/used 22/23’ 1250GS or hand on for the 1300. $$ wise I think the 1250 is the way to go - and it’s going to be an upgrade from my 1200GSA (although they’ve all gained weight since 09’). I’m coming around to the fact that although the 1300 may be a slight improvement performance wise, the 1250 is tried and true and might be less worry in terms of reliability (and still give me a performance boost!). Decisions, decisions. Lots of 22/23 used GS’es out there and still some nice new 23’s to be had. I’d be looking at $5k+ savings and still get a Brilliant bike (well supported in the aftermarket accessory space too)
    Keep the comments coming!😊

    Excellent comparison of the 2 bikes; especially, the so called XFactor, which is really important when considering that motorcycling is very much a passion and feelings play a major role. As owner of a Triple Black 2021 , I do prefer the brutal looks , and the confidence inspiring handling along with this protective feeling of having this bulk around me. It does have a presence on the ride, which one cannot overlook. A minor criticism of the 1300 is the brake lights integrated in the blinkers, having made space for the radar box. Doesn’t seem adequate visibility. Thank you for a top video and wonderful presentation. Greetings from Berlin, Jim

      Thanks for sharing, Jim. I also believe that X Factor may be the most important aspect at the end of the day. If it's supposed to be fun, this cannot be overlooked. About the tail lamp, I'm curious to see if there will be some aftermarket design kits that would allow us for changing the looks of the new 1300 in a major way. This may be a solution to many complaints that we are seeing about this new generation. All the best!

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  Před 7 měsíci

      Maybe this is then what M 1300 GS was intended for? That would also make sense. However, "R" at the beginning is reserved for boxer-powered BMW motorcycles, so this theoretically should stay. Then R 1300 XR perhaps? Not bad of a path and there would be a whole different set of expectations then instead of getting into a really, really competent GS's shoes, just being shorter and with thinner bones.

      @@VToldsMotoShow Looks isn’t everything 😏 I was cross shopping the GS and Tiger last summer.. I really get what people love about the GS.. Unbeatable balance.. It was hilariously easy to ride.. It’s so hilariously easy that I really found it boring.. It’s the perfect tool but it doesn’t trigger any emotions in me.. Then I rode the Tiger 1200 and I actually prefer it over the GS.. It doesn’t have the same stability, the same balance and it doesn’t feel as light as the GS.. But the engine was much more exciting, better sound and its imperfections made it more loveable to me.. it felt quicker but most importantly - the GS-boxer has the characteristics of a diesel.. Plenty of low end torque but it falls dead approaching 6-7000rpm.. It has so much low end grunt that the gears felt short.. And the “quick shifter” should be renamed “whiplash shifter”.. The Tiger has more of a traditional power band giving you more the higher you rev..
      In short - if you’re looking for the best tool, the GS is your pick.. If you’re looking for a GS but with a bit more soul and character, you should give the Tiger a try because I’m grabbing one for the 2024 season.

There is nothing more in there... comparing to Multistrada V4 or even a Tiger 1200 or Super Adventure S 1290. Because now when the BMW offer them, in many ways, far better bike, they say no way. 😀 But a year before when you asked them "Why GS?" the answer was "Because it is the best" 😂😂 It was just bigger and better looking.
    As it turns out now, it's not the best it'a just huge (bigger) and better looking but you can not say that to a motor enthusiast when he/she ask you for a reason. 😀
    People riding 1250GS are "special" (they want to be different) so they'll keep the price (market) on 1250GS for some time but after that 95% will sell because no one likes to lose money. 😀

    I much prefer the 1250GSA to the new 1300. I did a 1300 test ride and I really didn’t like it. The KTM and Triumph tiger are far better bikes than the new 1300. I just hope the new GSA doesn’t follow the GS otherwise it’s bye bye BMW.!

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  Před 7 měsíci

      I'm keeping my fingers crossed about the new Adventure being of a different style than the regular 1300 as BMW has a huge opportunity here in my opinion. The regular 1300 can already be raised with a Sport suspension option, so if they'd make the ADV an alternative to this compact GS, they'd be able to now cover the whole segment nicely.
      On the other hand, after we all say spy shots and a strange shape of the 1300's face, they still launched it this way, so the hope may be for nothing too.

      On "paper" - despite there being no actual paper about most of the things presented - R 1300 GS I think needs to sit on top. The 1250 feels to me lighter to handle at low speeds while being more encouraging to turn at high speeds but of course this is also subjective. However, this new 1300 feels to me more like other motorcycles in the segment while the 1250 seems really different in the way it handles. I really wonder why it's this way.

    • @dnbanb
      @dnbanb Před 7 měsíci

      @VToldsMotoShow I believe you could have a bikes feel as a category on paper but it's hard to judge that category. Maybe helpful data to explain that different feel would be how the weight of the 1300 is distributed vs the 1250. If you lost 26 lbs and it's mostly in the area of the engine/transmission you may feel the loss of the counterbalancing effect the older block had. Especially at low speeds. I have a 1250 with no plans to go to a 1300, at least until I see the gsa version. But I do believe the 1300 is a mostly good evolution of the GS platform.

    • @razorwired130
      @razorwired130 Před 7 měsíci

      @@dnbanb - it might be 26 lbs. lighter overall but it moved the transmission UNDER the engine - thus raising the engine mass. Center of gravity was changed. How that affects handling is why I read all these reviews.

      It really depends on what one values. I’d get a KTM 1290 Super Adventure R instead of it. This bike doesn’t turn at higher speeds but the power, low speed balance and sound of a V2 convince me more than anything in a BMW can - but again: just because my own preferences and what I value more. I’m aware that a GS is a more complete motorcycle, I just don’t care much.

I guess I’ve got to change my narrative of BMW’s driveshafts being maintenance-free. Now they’ve become just like a chain, just 10x more expensive to replace. Or considering the intervals, it’s rather 2x to 3x more expensive. I wonder whether it’s not better to just ride until failure as what’s the difference if the whole thing lands in trash…
