    It is an interesting video. when I was studying in North American ,the racism towards Chinese ethnicity is very often,just most of racism from adult are invisible or micro aggression, although sometimes some of them still behave quite aggressive. I think there is racism situation in China, but it exists all over the world. That is the issue need be improved in the worldwide, but it is hard to be improved . And I think at least it is very rare to face physical attack in China,they just comment on the internet 😂.I can feel your emotions and thoughts towards China are quite complicated. ,which is the real situation for most expat who live abroad

    Sorry to hear what you went through during the pandemic. The “no foreigner”thing was no about discrimination. I figured what happened was they can’t fill passports in the data system built in exigence. So you need
    to do the Covid test by regular course of the hospital, which allows passports. They can’t be “flexible” cause the consequence was too serious for them to take. (One missed out infector may lead to a tremendous disaster)It was not about you being a foreigner. Nothing personal.

    • @chopsticksandtrains
      @chopsticksandtrains  Před 3 měsíci +3

      Thanks for your nice comment. I realize that there are always going to be some reasons/excuses - but the way the whole thing was set up was just discriminatory by nature. To force foreign visitors to go to the emergency fever ward for testing is unacceptable. I don't solely blame the workers, because like you said, they may have thought couldn't test me apparently because I didn't have a Chinese ID card, but I do blame the workers for being extremely rude to me though, and not making any effort to help. But you know what, the workers were confused and not a single one of them asked a manager or someone if there was a way they could test me. If they had tried, I believe something could have been done. They just saw a foreigner there and didn't want to get near me or try to help. They all told me "you can't get tested here". I told them my girlfriend was injured and in ICU and I needed a test to be able to enter the hospital and take care of her... but they didn't care one iota. The coldness and heartlessness I saw was beyond words. But to be honest my friend, that's only one small example of HUNDREDS. Like I said, I could literally write a book on it.

      @@chopsticksandtrains sometime I wonder why westerners like to interpret everything negatively about China? Every one "was forced" to do test nearly daily for a period of time, most helpers are volunteers, they are kind and helpful as I experienced it. Are there rude people? Definitely sure, maybe they are not experienced, their work load was huge to make them not in bad mood, if so, you should report them, no need to get personal. Actually, I dont know if what you said about rudeness of workers are truth since it is only your single-sided words, and i have not experienced such things in my whole life, but it seems that you are very personal about covid control in China.
      I really enjoy your video about normal city scenes and some food, i thought you quite enjoy your life in China, I might be wrong. But if you really don't like China because covid experience, actually it is not that big deal to bring your beloved girlfriend back to US together. Unlike many Chinese immigrants in US who want to return back to China but not able to due to consideration that they have uprooted from China for many years and with all the "burdens" of responsibilities to their families and chidlren, job, retirement funds.... you are more free, don't need trap yourself in an resentfulness in a foreign country.

      @@wyz9815 The rudeness I faced in China during Covid was by far the worst I've ever experienced in my life. Whether or not you believe it, I actually don't care. I have a lot of it on video - so maybe someday I'll release a video about it, but I don't want to do that because I'm trying to not show China's bad side too much. But comments like yours are quite annoying since you doubt me and minimize my experiences here during Covid. You have no idea what I went through, I tell a bit about my experience and you say you doubt me... so, screw you then. Also, don't try to compare those Chinese who moved to the US (and continue to) who plan to stay there permanently as if the numbers are comparable. There are comparatively very few Americans moving to China. Did you not see the recent 走线 videos? Also, thanks but no thanks on your advice on what I should do or where I should go. It's my life. So now I travel back and forth between our Chinese and US homes, staying about 9 months per year in China for work. That travel makes a lot of things clear. First, Americans treat my wife very well. Second, Chinese xenophobia and racism has not gone away. My kids and I are discriminated against in China. The company I cofounded there is often overtly racist against non-Asians. If you live in China full time, you get used to it, but when you experience both cultures simultaneously, you know better.

      IMO, it's inherently US citizens need to be more tolerant (some just on the surface) of different races being a melting pots, otherwise the country would not function, I'm not making excuses, but it's probably come down to individual sensitivity because I hear same stories in Korea or Japan, these are all homogeneous society and low tolerant for certain behaviors (totally normal in the West) yet some foreigner are loving it in those countries!
      As far as xenophobia, I guess it goes both ways as long as on a governmental level it's hostile and bot governments will paint the other as evil, like I said on the surface Chinese are not discriminated against here, but also there are some McCarthyism going on on a governmental level for Chinese scientists etc.!

Interesting how a Chinese didn't like it when she was exposed to normal discrimination in mainland china. One of the dumbest excuses I hear to "justify" mainland xenophobia is the statement, "we're not an immigration country." That is really just an admission that xenophobia is official government policy. Being or not being an immigrant country is the choice to discriminate or not, it is not a justification for discrimination. Anyway, thanks for your comment, but it is not the foreigner's fault. it is how China is, and it is how Chinese deflect instead of facing it and fixing it.

      What did I lie about? If you're talking about our government targeting Chinese nationals, there were a few cases of false accusations, there're also Chinese government agents busted, I don't doubts that! I've never live in China, I may be China leaning doesn't make me a Nationalist, that's the reason I'm so annoyed, nowaday anyone doesn't agree with Western narratives are CCP shills, basically get down to name calling! Wumao, Emperor Xi, Tofu this that are all in that categories!
      There are as few as they may be White Amercans support Chinese policy, mostly socialist or anti war leaning! Exactly because our government neglect it poorest of poorest!
      Talking about lying I actually watched one of your supporter posting videos about China had homeless videos, the footage he show clearly is sort of encampment whatever the situation is, it like showing students protests encampment here and say they're homeless here! That's lying! Ironically one of the foreigner commenter of his video stated in the city he live, locals government had facility training unemployed vocationally for job like construction!Comparing the West with China is comparing apple with orange! Here in US if you can not afford a roof over your head, you end up on the street, Chinese mostly are subsistence farmer before urbanization, they may just go back to rural life!
      I get what you guy are complaining a out! That's why I said all individuals perspective! "Jerry take on China " live with the same condition in China! Is he allow to had different view!
      My point is even if I live in China, I may or may like it there but I probably do not think I have any say on how that land was run or people will behave, society don't change overnight! I visited China in 1984, the only things I can tell you is night and day with today! So I understand some Chinese are ultra nationistic and considered they had arriveed, may be premature, but it's what it's! I had adopted to living in different countries a couple of time, immersing myself to learning the languages and culture in fact I lose much of my Chineseness! Especially someone chose to marry a Chinese national and don't respect there view is heading for divorce, As overseas Chinese, even amoung ourself we may joke about mailander aggressiveness but I understand where they're coming from just I understand where African Americans coming from, no hated need!
      My final shot to you will be if you want to judge my English! If you can one day converse with me in Chinese fluently, then you'll gain my respect, of course with you hated you probably think it beneath you to do "When in Rome" practice!
      As US citizens for 40 years, my advice is get the F out of there, if you hate it so much and in US you can dig out Chinese mishap on internets and start a ant China channel you can make a good living with a million followers!

    I watch you now and then, I live in US and I'm not sure your complain about your experience in covid time is base on your bias toward China ( it's a cliche view you should not expect living in a foreign country to suit your expectation ), it's like some Asians hating American being physically attack during covid or even kill, also here in US I heard many stories people not being able to see their love one in the hospital at covid time even if they are in their dead bed! Just one man opinion!

    I'm sorry for your bad experience during the pandemic. China is not a perfect country. What country is?
    Without a doubt, some foreigners have suffered in China. Most haven't. As they say, "your mileage may vary."
    But, overall, China is a great country. The pros vastly outweigh the cons.

    I met and married my wife in China but we both moved back to the US for better job and lifestyle. I think it’s more difficult for my wife adjusting to life here than me and her living in China. Maybe some day we’ll move back there when the CCP is gone.

    It's good to know that you actually have a long-time Chinese business partner there. As long as the friendship between you two is solid and he's smart on managing social connections, especially with local CCP officials, they'll give you a pass on the mild criticism you post on here (I say "mild" because I don't think I've heard you say anything about overthrowing the CCP, which is understandable).

    Everyone had hard time during Covid time, don't need to get it personal. I understand it would be more difficult for a foreigner, but I don't think Chinese treat you "bad" just because you are a foreigner, it is a fact that many covid virus was imported from outside and US controled poorly their covid situation. It is understandable that some people were scared when they see foreigners, but I believe it was uncommon, for I didnt heard at all anything you said among my western friends, and i saw many western expats recording their life in China during that period on CZcams, some even travaled a lot. So generalization about a country with 1.4b people is not really reasonable thing to do.
    As a matter of fact, as Chinese, most of us, especially families with more than one senior members are grateful how our government handle the situation, we supported the 0-covid policy, which though made our life difficult, but very well protected our parents and grant parents, and their life are far more important than anything else!

    • @chopsticksandtrains
      @chopsticksandtrains  Před měsícem

      I did take it personal. I was treated like dirt in China and discriminated against very badly, as were many other foreigners. So for you, a brainwashed little nationalist, to tell me how I should feel is actually pretty funny. I also like how you tell me not to generalize about "1.4 billion Chinese people" and then you try to speak for all of China saying "we were grateful how our gov handled the situation and supported the 0-covid policy'. I'm gonna let your comment stay, but if you start spamming me with propaganda, I'll block you from commenting.
