Help me get 1 like for every picture of jerky in the thumbnail!!!!
Also share this to 1 friend every time I say the word JERKY
Bump!
I'd love to see this video remade with all of the suggestions from commenters
Would you to try my product? I have a vegetable floss,,tekstur like a meat shredded and it's dry food..with a unique taste from banana blossom, carrot etc
You forgot the Primal mushroom flavor!
doing the Lord's work 😂 I never really liked jerky before going vegan but i like vegan jerky. strange LOL.
Honestly I think if most people tried vegan jerky they would like it better! I brought some of this to a tailgating thing this weekend and got all the football bro's to try soy jerky and they loved it!
@@SauceStache I’m so glad you did this video! I love beef jerky and it’s one of my most missed foods. Newly vegan here so I’m going to give some of these a try!
@@SauceStache even when I ate meat until highschool I thought meat jerky was kinda gross.
It’s because it’s not jerky, it’s something else. So you either like jerky or vegan jerky or both for different reasons
Its because you weren't nutrient deficient before you went vegan that is why you didn't crave jerky but now you love vegan jerky how funny
I've always disliked jerky, so I wonder if I would actually like the plantiest ones better🤣 Anyway love your taste tests
I bet you would!!!! Honestly these jerkies are better than meat jerkies!!!
I appreciate the pictures of the packages moving in position across the screen. It made it easy to follow!
Louisville Vegan Jerky CO has the best in my opinion. The Maple 🍁 Bacon and Peppered are my absolute favorites. They also don’t use a bunch of Sugar like most Asian Vegan Jerky and better texture than the Mushroom Varieties.
It was sooooo good!!!
I’m diabetic so that’s good to know!! I’m trying to find out about jerky brands!! Hopefully, eventually I can make my own.
Thiers is soooooooo good
I ordered some on Friday and got it on Sunday and Louisville is the best tasting one!!!
@@lesliecruz6063 100%
You MUST try Pleather Jerky, the closest I've ever had to a hard, dried jerky, chewy but not too tough with really good flavors. I'm sure it would end up at the top of your list. Seitan based.
i was gonna say this as well!! its amazing. that and vegan dream cowgirl jerky are phenomenal
@@Lordbugbug Vegan Dream does not get enough love. For me it’s a texture thing. The soy jerky always has a weird squishiness to it that I can’t stand.
@@Legitballin yeah the dry + chewy texture of vegan dream is perfect for me, along with pleather jerky
they remind me of old times haha
Ooo where do you get that from?
@@vss5383 why even care lol
Your recipe for the mushroom jerky using lions mane is the best vegan jerky I've ever had. Made huge batches and shared with friends. They were all amazed. My uncle (who eats meat but has lost most of his teeth) loved it because he could chew it! And it tasted great.
Thats so awesome!!! Thank you!!
This comment makes me want to try it so bad 👍
Hey Danniella. The lions mane have this bitter taste I don't like. When you made jearky of them, were they still a little bit bitter? Thanks!
Okay, I followed your advice and grabbed every flavor of the unisoy. Holy what?! I have never tried vegan jerky because I just think there’s some things that can’t be replicated. This was like the first time having an impossible burger. It’s so realistic I was thinking they lied to me and this is actual meat. Unreal! Really impressed. I would’ve never tried this unless you made the video. Thank you!
Jerky was my biggest issue with becoming vegetarian, so funny enough I've tried all of these myself. Personally I love noble jerky the most, the gardein one is really good too but super salty
I’ll have to look for the gardein one while I wait for the ones I order to come in. Definitely one of my most missed foods. I love beef jerky so much.
Shocked that they didn’t like the Gardein jerky. As a recently converted vegan it tastes almost exactly like jerky to me.
Try Pleather: Black Pepper flavor. I was searching for years before finding it and now I order it online--it's 100% worth it. Thank me later. :)
I’ve tried a lot of jerky as well, though not as many as you! Unisoy is also my favorite. Thanks for doing this! 😁
Thank you!! The Unisoy was really really good!
Yessssss! I tried a vegan jerky once and it was so bad that it got traumatized of all vegan jerky. This video got me excited to keep trying. Thank you!
YES!!!! there are some bad ones for sure!! But I think if you tried any of the jerkies in the top of the list here you would love them!!
You got me! When I saw the thumbnail and title I thought "oh no... its another ranking video CZcamsrs are doing"... but you slayed it! Great presentation, and I love not only that it was you and Monica, but you really stuck to the core of the testing. Plus, it was entertaining to watch! You keep delivering Mark. A+ 👍❤
I love the editing of the last few videos, great job!
some alternate rankings for your tier list:
- this is just beef jerky
- I can't believe it's not meat!!!
- what?? no meat??
- it could be meat?
- this is probably meat.
- this is not meat.
- where's the meat???
- vegan jerky.
hahahaha these are great!!!
Primal spirit has always been so great I've never needed to buy a different brand actually bought a 24 pack a day before this video haha
All Yalls Foods has some good jerky made from prickly pear. I recommend their salt and pepper
Also: Primal Spirit is THE BEST vegan jerky to me! The tear and texture is really well done and theyre cheap too!
Fr the hickory and texas bbq by primal is fire
Louisville Jerky is the best vegan jerky I’ve ever had! I was stunned by the placement Lol
Thank you so much for doing this video!!! Just what I needed to see this morning!!
You are so welcome thank you so much!!!
Wow... Greetings from Scotland 😊 Have a wonderful day everyone 🌻
Greetings!!!!
Fun video! I love your rating system! There’s plenty of great snacks out there and some of the best ones are plant-based trying to replicate meat. Even when they fail to taste like meat they’re sometimes really great just planty.
Gardein was soooo salty to me. I really liked the Louisville brand though. Haven't tried any of the others here, but I ran to Amazon to order Be Leaf after reading comments 🤣
I absolutely HATE the portabella jerky. It has the weirdest aftertaste. I’ve been afraid to try a mushroom jerky since.
King oyster based ones are the way to go.
The Primal Seitan Jerky is the best.
Amazing video, this really was so expansive and in depth. You guys did a great job, can’t wait to try some of these!
Thanks so much!
I love FakeMeats! I love the Louisville Vegan Jerky Co, Savory Wild mushroom jerky, and recently tried and liked Noble Jerky. I didn’t like any of the Primal Spirit, Onisoy, or Gardein brand jerkies. But, I prefer hard, dry, break/shred-before-it-would-break, gotta-work-on-it-a-while jerky.
I am pretty sure Stonewall's is one of the oldest vegan jerky items. I think that's what I used to buy from bulk bins back in 2004/5 when I wasn't vegan yet. I wish more of these sold big packages to reduce the amount of plastic wrap.
My wife and I were obsessed with Pan's for a few years. Has really good combination of chew and flavor. Primal seems more widely available in MA so I get that often because it is really chewy so it satisfies that snacking desire and doesn't disappear quickly. Louisville is really good but I think they taste a bit saltier and feel like they get eaten up faster so I buy them less often.
I just subscribed to Fake Meats' box this past weekend to get more savory snacks into our place!
Well, I guess I am going to have to try the unisoy one and possibly the may wah one now. I've been searching for a good vegan jerky for a while now.
Love the red Primal you missed- the red one- mushroom based, great texture and flavor.
So I’m a vegetarian (who leans heavily towards Veganism) but I don’t necessarily like mushrooms, what are some ways to maybe get over this to open up more options for myself?
There are a LOT of mushrooms out there. I would definitely shop around for different kinds. You'd be surprised how different they are from one another. You may hate one and absolutely love another.
Thank you for trying it all and breaking it down for us. I like the mrs on there.
Thank you!!
GOOD MORNING SAUCYMAN!
I really liked Primal Spirit Jerky. They had a Hickory Smoke Flavor one that I enjoyed, but it was discontinued and replaced with 2 spicy ones. I hate spicy.
ahhhh what a bummer!! I think we had a hickory smoke version?! I need to go look!!
@@SauceStache I was so happy when I found like 20 of them marked down to 75 cents each lol! It was bitter sweet thought because I later learned they were marked down so that the store could clear their shelves of them and put the new product up. I don't remember what the other spicy one was, but there was a Spicy Tai Peanut.
Also, I might have remembered my favorite wrong, that Texas BBQ one looks really familiar.
I hate Primal Spirit so much! I'm glad you had one that you liked, tho. It just has like a dog food smell and taste to me that I can't get over
@@MothCreature13 My opinions MIGHT be tainted by the fact it was the first vegan jerky I ever had lol.
@@christophermorin9036 it was mine too lmao! But I also had a dog treat on a dare in middle school and I remember that tasting better than Primal to me
Vegan dream is my fav brand. I know you all didn’t like it as much, but I usually buy the hickory pepper one. That’s been my go to for years and years.
I agree. The texture, dryness, and flavor of the hickory pepper matched jerky/dessicated beef much more than all the others I tried (many of which are in this review). The mushroom and the moist jerkies were just subpar, down to unpalatable-straight-to-trash, to me. TBF, growing up, there wasn't much jerky variety. There was dry and tough, and dry and shredding. Not much else.
Love this! The Mesquite Lime Primal Spirit jerky is one of my favorite snacks of all time!
OMG THANKS for this video Jerky was the one thing that I haven't been able to find a good replacement for
The Pans zesty Thai is soo good. I just ordered some teriyaki and curry flavored.
0:10 Gosh, I am so happy I never liked jerky XD
One, none of these are available where I live and you can probably 1-3 (not so great) types here.
Two, this must have bean a real expensive purchase.
Three, I would have no idea what to do with all of these packets!
.
Now, this makes me even more happy about this video - it was interesting and I am sure it will inform you future experiments to a great degree!
.
Lots and lots of love for you and Monica! Stay safe and have a great rest of this week!
The BEST Meatiest Plant Based Jerky I’ve ever had is Sam’s Harvest Soy Jerky #19 by Butler Foods (the people who make Butler Soy Curls) I’m surprised Fake Meats didn’t carry it since they carry Soy Curls.
Agreed!!
i love someone finally saying louisville right
This was fun!!! Thanks for doing a thorough review! I've stared at Primal jerky in Giant weighing the price. I use the Louisville jerky in my quick tater tot/chez/broccoli/jerky concoction. Sometimes I add nooch and coconut oil too justify my kids meal style dinner...
haha that sounds awesome!!
How could you not do BeLeaf vegan jerky??!! That's the one that has the best texture and the spicy flavor is the best jerky I've ever tasted.
I need to get it!!!
Sauce Stache at 9:08 "May Wah! Vegetarian.. vegan teriyaki turkey" 😂
Loved the video, that cracked me up tho
I'm here for the "ipad is not backed up" notifications, I'm glad I'm not the only one!
Vegan jerky is so expensive, and often horrible. We’ve been making our own with foraged honey mushrooms and maitake, and the texture is spot on. And of course you customize the flavor so it’s perfect for your taste. It’s sooo good! But it’s nice to have a few alternatives from your taste test for when we run out of ours.
Never ate jerky (not a thing in Holland as far as i know) but a joy to see this anyway! Eet smakelijk!
Thank you for the free content!
Thank you!!!
From my experience, the Thai Peanut Primal Jerky is bouncy and not meat like at all, but I also think it's really really tasty.
Sauce, you’ve inspired me, I’m going to try making jerky with soy curls.
I laughed when Mark pronounced Louisville as Louie’s Ville. The S is silent, so it’s pronounced Louie Ville.
You didn’t have Krave brand. I’m up in the air about that one, though. It’s hard like I remember jerky being, and although the flavor I get is Korean bbq, the bbq flavor isn’t prominent. But, it isn’t spicy at all, which is what I like because I can’t do spicy.
Did you get all of the jerky from the fake meats site? You had a couple of jerkies i have never heard of, and I’d like to try them. I’ve marinated shrooms and dehydrated them. The first batch I made came out crunchy. I left them dry too long because my dehydrator doesn’t have a temperature gauge or timer on it so the shrooms dried a little too long. But the next batch came out really good.
Might be my fastest click from a notification
Hehehe, same. :3
YES!! hahah thank you!!!
Vegan taste tests are my guilty pleasure. =)) It would be so cool to taste test even more vegan substitutes. 🙏🙏🙏
thank you!!! They are fun right! its cool to see whats out there and find new stuff every now and then!!
@@SauceStache Indeed. Even if I don't have access to all that, I'm glad for the ones that do. Also, the fact that so many new awesome vegan alternatives appear every single day around the world, gives me so much hope that less animals will suffer. 🙏
Yall should do more of these tier tests! Fun video
Thank you!!!! I would love too!!
Last year I found Perky Jerky had a vegan jerky at Kroger. I bought a sack and was amazed by how good it was. Only downside is I can't find it anymore haha! I'm super huge into veg jerky and have tried almost all of these. Pleather jerky is super good, their black pepper one is the bomb. My biggest gripe with most of the brands is they are usually too wet and not super chewy.
i was glad to hear you call the Gardein a 'brownie'... lol. i bought a bag a couple of weeks ago and while it tasted alright, the sticky softness of the bite put me off. i prefer their 'burgers' over other brands but feel they came up short as a jerky.
thanks for doing this taste/texture review. 33 years without jerky and i figured i'd probably never, ever get to eat any again for the remainder. there is now hope = )
I used to love beef jerky as a kid, but I gave up four legged animals when I was 16. I ate turkey jerky when I was still eating meat but I gave meat up six years ago. I’ve tried vital wheat gluten and mushroom jerky. It was pretty good.
I love you two together!!
I love the Stonewall's jerky! That and a can of Steaz half n' half green tea were my go-to snacks in college.
Love the video! I can't believe you didn't need huge glasses of water to get through.
Back in the early 90s you had to order Stonewall's through the Whole Earth catalog. I haven't had it in many years. I didn't know it was still around.
I remember over a decade ago buying the last one you showed off, Jurquee or however it's spelled. I got it from the website veganessentials and I remember I picked it out because it was one of the cheapest ones and I bought like 10 of the single-serve bags my carnivore brother who "loves meat and will not give it up ever" went crazy for that one and had about half of the packages I bought. Actually he's one of those people that says he's all about meat, but he'll really eat anything that tastes good. When we still lived in the same house he was always trying out every recipe I made especially the meaty ones like with tofu, mushrooms things like that.
I like Primal Spirit hickory smoked the best. I need to try the other top brands you showed off in the video. I like the Gardein ones as a snack, and I like the texture of them a lot but yeah they're more of like the flavor they're supposed to be hickory, teriyaki, etc. It doesn't actually have a meaty taste as much as the Primal Spirit brand. And yeah, from what I remember that last brand was more sweet, I think I had gotten teriyaki maybe that had something to do with it? But after your review no it's just the brand. I need to make a special trip to whole foods and just make a point of picking out a couple different brands of vegan jerky.
I've only tried the Primal and my favorite was the soy one, the gluten one has great texture but the taste was a bit bready.
Best I've found in Australia is KM Foods jerky (soy based). It's absolutely delicious!!! The Texas BBQ is my absolute fave, but the Ginger Teriyaki is also 👌
Idk if any of these are similar, but if you can find the igreen+ soy steak jerky, it's pretty great! I found it at 99 Ranch Asian market, but it doesn't look like an Asian brand. You can probably find it elsewhere too.
This is really helpful! Can you please make avideo taste like this with vegan peperoni?
i absolutely HATE mushrooms but i have to say, i tried the vegky mushroom jerky at lancaster vegfest this year and i was absolutely blown away by it. i couldn't believe i ate a mushroom and didn't gag instantly haha i even tried more than one piece!
Now that's what I call research dedication 👏
Yummmm....jerky's one of the things i miss since goin vegan...looks delicious
Butler soy curls make the best jerky I've ever had .
Louis-vuhle if you wanna hit that southern accent. 🤣. Idk what it is about vegan jerky but I cannot get enough of it, before being vegetarian, didn't care for it. Great video!
That's actually an issue I had with many Beyond Meat products: they are waaay too meaty! Especially their burger tastes way too meaty, at the point where it's just too much for me!
The Unisoy is my favorite of all the brands I tried.
This is the content I need.
Primal Spirit Thai Peanut is soooo good
The best I’ve ever had is the jerky from the people that make butler soy curls!
Me too!! I commented on that too.
Ooh I like to get Pan's mushroom jerky occasionally as a treat when I can
Loved this "critics debate" format!
such an awesome idea for a video, nice!
Not sure about meatiest, but Primal and Butler's soy curl jerky are my favorite!
I've only seen the Gardein in my area, it's pretty good.
To me everything is meatier when you pack it up with spices...isn't that what we do with me to give it flavor? LOL!
I came across this video as I was snacking on pineapple habanero unisoy jerky lol
Good to know that it’s the king meatiest!
You must try Sam's Harvest jerky!
So delicious. Sad it's not here, it's the best I've had! They are made by the folks who do Butler's Soy Curls.
Bought some unisoy today and it’s delicious
The only one I has was Noble. I quite liked the texture, didn’t care for the flavour.
7:54 i don't know why that was so funny. XD
I love the gardein it’s one of my absolute favorite jerkys. The noble jerky was absolutely horrible in my opinion. I hated every flavor of it.
bah, had to eat a primal strip, turns out it goes well with Tom Yum Soup.... did not know that flavor combo of Teriyaki, coconut milk and tom yum spice mix would go quite so well together :D
I need these ASAP!! Lol 😆 🤣 😂 👌🏾
You gotta try archer farms jerkey. They do meat and vegan. The vegan one is mushrooms and Amazing
Noble chipotle is yummy! The last one you guys tried that you weren’t crazy about (stonewall’s one), I had it once and spit it out. It wasn’t good to me!
Sorry, but the hair of Monica (your espouse) looks great!
Thank you!!!! I will share this with her!!
I’m not vegan but I love the primal jerky. I just enjoy the texture and flavor of it.
Have you tried the beyond meat vegan jerky? 😍 so so yummy!!
I tend to stray away from plant based jerky (used to do the same for meat jerky) cuz I’m not fond of the chew. I may like the mushroom ones if the bite is nice and easy! There used to be an Asian meat jerky I really loved because it was spicy and as crunchy as a chip.
I agree soy protein is the best!! I was just eating some
Cyber Monday special ..99 cents shipping!! Woohoo!!!
Would be cool to see how theese compare to Beyond meats jerky
I'm stoked for the beyond meat jerky!!
Mmmm. Chewing on jerky is so satisfying. I'd be like a wild dog tearing into any of them
Great video!!!
Id love to hear your opinion on the new Beyond Jerky
There’s this brand of jerky that’s really good. It’s sold in seventh day Adventist stores and Asian markets. Good value too, less than a dollar an ounce. I can’t recall the name, but jerky was always sooo expensive. Vegan ones don’t have to be.
