Again a baroque opera in -more or less- modern clothes. Why do directors think this is a good and novel idea when in fact it is a nonsensical cliché for 50 years now?

The singing and orchestral playing is excellent but this only underlines that this opera seems to be one of the few expendable in Handel's oeuvre. It is also more l difficult than usual to recognize any sense in the proceedings and the stage direction is not of much help either.
