The absolutely most charitable explanation for this is that the girl has been on her Rumspringa, which is a period of time when Amish teenagers / young adults are allowed to go out in the world and experience it. After a few years, they can decide if they leave the community forever fully or return to the community fully. This would explain why SHE has been in those modern setting photos, but it doesn't explain why her parents / family would be at those gatherings. But if multiple people who know her say she's lying, then I guess that's that.

    • @celadonna237
      @celadonna237 Před 2 měsíci +38

It really is the only charitable explanation, but it's regrettably not even plausible. Like you said, her parents were in a modern setting dressed in worldly attire. If they were also plain, they likely would not have been okay with a picture in the first place, but they're happily posing in the photo. With this in mind, there's no real way she would ever have even been offered a rumspringa period, as they are only given to children raised in the community. Since she said she was a convert, she would have been baptized into the church right away as an adult member.

some Amish do used phones computers and wifi, but they are usually using the ppl who live next to them wifi, and they are only allowed to be used for business and usually everything is in a shack on the edge of the property. Also never buy "de-barked" dogs from the Amish. They use a metal instrument and put in in the back of a puppys mouth and it destroys the vocal cords, it is extremely painful for them.

I live fairly near an Amish community, and they have a rule about phones that has some sort of loophole about distance from the house (can't remember exactly what). So they have these little tiny buildings here and there that are basically Amish phone booths. Just a phone and enough room for a person to stand there while using it. Not sure how many have smart phones, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I’m no Amish expert but I do know it would ridiculous hard if not impossible for a random “English” to join an Amish community. If she managed to somehow convince this community to take her in they would have been watching her like a hawk for rule breaking. It’s a strict society that shuns people they know and love when they step out of line. I’d say her living a plan life isn’t a bad thing if that was all she was doing. Painting a community she’s not a part of as abusive and harmful is pretty disrespectful. Letting people speculate you’re in danger and raise money to save you seems despicable.

  • @ImNotHere222

If she literally started creating content like "I've joined an Amish community" and "Trying to Live Plain on the Plains", she would've blown up without any worry. mennonite’s have some modern luxuries. her outfit looks mennonite to me but i am not an expert. they are considered “plain” and they have electricity. also i used to work with a bunch of amish and some of them have GED’s even though amish school only goes up to 8th grade. i worked with a 14 year old girl who worked full time. also a lot of amish have cell phones because they need them for work- if they are called in to work and to get in contact with their drivers.

Could be stricter Mennonite but the ones I’ve had as friends more regular modern clothing sort of, like still long skirts, business casual type of blouses, hoodies they did wear, possibly sweatpants I can’t remember. The boys wore dress pants and like cargo shorts and polo’s. They used flip phones. They could have computers for schooling.

Can confirm, as someone from a smaller city with a pretty hefty Mennonite community that live nearby and shop at our Walmart/gas stations, etc. I usually see the women in a bit more modern clothing, though. Usually like a blouse and then a jean skirt that reaches down to the ankles, and sandals. Then the hair tied back into a bun and tucked under the covering/haube.
I even went to school with a Mennonite girl up until high school (never saw her after 6th grade, actually). She always wore long jean skirts and a nicer short sleeve blouse, but her hair was down and she didn't wear a covering, so I'm not sure if that is normal in many Mennonite communities or not. I never saw her in makeup or in anything other than her usual outfit. Hair was never different, either.

The only thing I remember from her from late middle school was that people told me she didn't like me, for whatever reason, but I didn't have classes with her. I HEARD she spread rumors about me being a bitch because I was good at singing the solos in choir, or something. But she seemed actually a very nice person, so I have reason to believe those rumors were from someone else trying to get me to dislike her. I can imagine some girls were mean to her because of the style of dress she wore.

You don’t just “join” the Amish church. That would be incredibly difficult due to the lifestyle heavily relying on family ties and local community. People are born into amish communities. they are very tight-knit which doesn’t allow much room to outsiders to become involved. They also speak a variant of Dutch( Pennsylvania Dutch) and learn that language first before English. When they speak English they have a Dutch accent that you can usually hear. I don’t hear that in Sarah’s voice at all. There are a lot of inconsistencies in her story unfortunately. That being said, Kenzie doesn’t seem to have pure motivations at all. She sounded very vindictive.

    Actually related to the video
I don’t trust Kenzie… it’s really weird to say that you don’t care about someone else’s privacy just because you don’t know them personally, and while I don’t trust Sarah either most of Kenzie’s evidence is circumstantial at best like saying ‘look see here’s a picture of them together as kids which means they’re 100% related’ as if you can’t have childhood friends. Also you can leave some of these communities/break some of the rules and still come back until you’re baptized. Peoples religion and lifestyles can change overtime so what kenzie knew about her doesn’t necessarily still apply (if that’s the case Sarah would still be lying) Kenzie could be telling the truth and be 100% correct but that doesn’t make anything she’s saying actual evidence. She’s honestly coming off as overly vindictive and petty. It genuinely seems like they’re both lying about atleast parts of their stories

So she could have grown up in a different religion & lifestyle and then joined the plain people within the last couple of years…maybe she isn’t addressing a lot of the accusations because it’s getting her views?? @FlowerChild65 Před 2 měsíci +6

I don't have Tik Tok so I learn about the drama based on videos like this. Religious fundamentalism is a special interest for me, so I have watched a lot of documentaries about Amish people. There was a documentary NatGeo did years ago called Amish: Out Of Order that I recommend about people who left. There's tons of others too, Living with the Amish and Amish on a Break are also good. There are tons of great books and docs.
Anyways, I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt for most of this. Sometimes, depending on the community, young people leave and come back more than once. So I thought, "Oh maybe she's just been out before". Then, I thought "Maybe one of her parents left and the other didn't". I have heard of custody disputes between parents if one person stays within a Plain community and the other doesn't. It's pretty rare, but not impossible. I also wondered if she was maybe just ex-Amish. But as the video went on, it would seem no. There are some Christian fundamentalists who dress like plain people, but aren't. It makes me wonder if she grew up like that, given that you said her dad was a pastor. The Seven Sisters come to mind, I haven't been on FJ in years, but they used to have a blog.
It seems like she might just be putting on this persona for attention and to con people, which is sad because people are genuinely abused and trapped in plain communities, especially women who often lack resources to leave.

I'm so glad you addressed the tt tradwife trend (and I would love if you made a whole video on it, completely agreed with your take), because it is *frustrating* to watch these people glorify this lifestyle and put down other women for wanting to be anything other than that (and putting blame on the feminist movement for "ruining femininity and women"??). If they were actually born in a time where they would be forced to be housewives - take care of the entire household, raise children, submit to their husbands, etc., they would have no way of leaving, they would have no safety net to fall back on, no financial or social prospects of their own without a man (not to mention getting a divorce was illegal not so long ago, so literally no escape) - they had no way out, women were trapped. If "tradwives" were born at that time, they would also want anything but to be forced into this lifestyle. What they are doing is hypocritical and is coming from a place of deliberate ignorance (and misogyny lol)
The whole reason these women can *choose* to stay home and be homemakers nowadays is because of the feminist movement. They could leave if they wanted to, and no harm would come to them - they could just start anew, be financially independent, build a new life; women even 50 years ago didn’t have that opportunity. Romanticizing the suffering of women for centuries and then putting the blame back on women for what they were put through is just mind-boggling to me. They are not "tradwives", they are social media creators *with a job* who get to work from home and don't share the house chores with their partner.
And I think we become too US/West-centric when talking about this issue, so just a reminder that millions of women around the world are still forced to live in these (and worse) conditions. Tiktok tradwives are truly born from immense privilege and ignorance

As a former Pennsylvanian and a neighbor of the Amish and Mennonites, from my understanding both communities take promises and vows seriously. For them, breaking a promise results in shunning. As a young adult, she is not expected to follow the limited technology rules until after baptism and confirmation where she would be made aware of community expectation in its entirety. The Amish have a strict approach to technology, viewing it as necessary but limiting its use to work-related communication. While it’s possible for an Amish person to use tools like smartphones and the internet, social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram would not be part of their work-related activities.

Yes, being stuck in a 1950's dystopian housewife role is pure hell. If someone says "I'll work and you can stay home" and love bombs you RUUUUUN! RUN LIKE HELL! IT'S A TRAP! It's a trap that always leads to heartbreak to some extent. You'll fight everyday to progress and only go backwards. Choosing this life without the help of manipulation is always sus to me. Choosing to be controlled and have no financial stability outside of the relationship is so scary. Why do trad wives like this?!

I could see her being Mennonite because some Mennonite people have Wi-Fi,television,phones, etc. and while unlikely it is possible for Mennonite people to join later in life. But I’ve never heard of a Mennonite person having social media before and I feel like if she was caught her phone probably would’ve been taken away so I don’t understand how she would’ve gotten yet another phone? Idk. I do know that you can leave some Amish communities and still come back and have a relationship with your family as long as you haven’t been baptized yet and it’s only after baptism you get shunned. But I also know it can depend on families.

To some degree I'd say let those with a niche genre continue making focused content without requiring them to place counter arguments towards their own way of living yet it is horrible to be on the other side of things and seeing the push towards a particular lifestyle as it gets glamorize without exposing the flaws.
Just as a girl may grow up to follow a career path she chose and come to regret her decision (either ended up disliking that career once in it or felt like she missed out on finding a man who is husband material & who she could have started walking on a family focused path with to not feel rushed later) or she could follow the tradwife path & also end up feeling suffocated by it in certain unfortunate scenarios like you expressed among other negative things.

She also never had tea before. She had both a laptop and phone, so I don't know if there were exceptions made for her, but I just figured her family/ community was pretty progressive.

And i dont think there is a problem with earning money i went to a " quaker school " which is the most expensive private school in my state. I njoyed the beliefs about equality amongst all men, teachers were calles by thier first names. Religion at school was workd religion and we studied islam ,hindu, Buddhism Catholicism fundamental christianity etc( we did still have a quaker meeting house at school. Which has no leaders its a quiet reflection and anyone can share. It also cinsistently had the highest grades year after year for graduating students.
Also just wondering why this girl couldnt be part of a family that have just gotten progressively more religious ? They said she was homeschooled And tye photos of her as a child just show her in fairly plain dresses and there are no hair coberings etc for young children?

If I remember correctly from a documentary I watched of an Amish community, there’s like levels to how “traditional” you are and where your housing is placed. The heavily traditional Amish people will tend to be further back and harder to access while the people who are at the front of the community are not as traditional by using phones, cars, electric, etc. I wanted to comment this for context. So yes some Amish people do use phones and stuff. I believe there are people who are not in or living near the community but still live the lifestyle to a degree. If she is lying I think she would’ve been fine had she not claimed certain things and outright said “I’m cosplaying this lifestyle for fun”, or left the Amish bit out entirely. Conservative lifestyles can be attached to a lot of different religions.
