    WOUNDS ON THEIR TAILS - Lots of people have asked what the "wounds" on the top of their tails are - theyre NOT wounds - its a chalk mark which is used to manage and determine when a cow is in heat I.e. when she is at the ideal time to mate with.
    Other cows can sense that she is in heat and "mount her" which rubs the chalk off and the farmer can then spot that she is in "heat"
    ... all that being said ... they do look like wounds though! Ill give you all that lol

    I'm so glad to see they have them on a rotational grazing system. That's perfect for the cows and amazing for the grass! Their grass will get better and better as time goes by. A tip you might want to tell them about, if they didn't already know, is if they want to help break the pest cycle (flies) during the warm months, they can follow their cows with chickens 3 days behind the cows. The chickens will spread the cow's droppings as they search for maggots growing in the cow droppings. It'll be that much better for the cows, as there will be fewer flies for them to contend with, the chickens will be happy and they can have some pasture raised chicken or even eggs if they'd rather deal with that than with batches of cornish cross, and their fields will be happier because the droppings won't be concentrated to where they were left. It's an amazing system that benefits both the environment and the animals :)

    • @socrabe
      @socrabe Před 2 lety +1

      I like the idea
      How many chickens would they need for 1000 cows?
      Wouldn't the chicken get lost at some point? The grazing area is pretty big.

    This farm is amazing. It's the closest to a perfect dairy farm that I've ever seen. The results speak for themselves, the herd looks to be in excellent health, and happy. The farmer and staff must work so hard, it seems to be the pinnacle of animal husbandry.
    2% lameness is just a mind-blowing number, when you add in the herd size. The cows obviously love their routine. Top notch animal care. It's the amount of preventive measures that truly impress me. The fact that the herd just loads and unloads themselves into the rotary parlour speaks volumes to the careful application of knowledge about herd psychology, as well as how relaxed the cows are in human company.
    Just eyeing over the cows in the vid, I couldn't see one that looked to be in ill health. Their bright curiosity, watching how spread they are in the field, and how contentedly they run about could not be a better testament to the farmer's dedication.

    I helped out dairy farmers that were neighbors to our cattle ranch in Okanogan County Washington USA. They were old farms but were still were very well taken care of. But when I got a tour of a modern dairy farm outside of Spokane Wa. I was blown away. Everything was automated. Automated to where the cows didn't have any human contact unless they needed some type of medical treatment. It was almost like they were robotic in nature. To me that it's so stark and clinical. Not sure if I liked it really, though I was impressed with the technology that was prevalent everywhere I looked. Even the chutes and the cows were totally cleaned and dried buy automated machines.

    I really enjoyed seeing the farm and milking operation.
    It looks very progressive and modern, sanitary and clean with the cows needs in mind and uses technology smartly as well.Interesting.

    Wow, those cows are guests there. Go out in the field and eat, prance around socialize, go get milked and a meal. And come back out. I imagine that is the dream life of a cow.

    Trailer hook up...I had trouble hooking up my trailer even with the camera as the hitch is black and shadows suck. Once I painted the nose of the hitch florescent orange no more problems and I nail it everytime...almost.

    Ace one, best one in a long time. Cows look ace, even there tail paints look well!(thats the wounds by the way.) Think it shows that happy people and happy cows are the most important thing and you don't need much. Just a parlour and grass.👍
