WOUNDS ON THEIR TAILS - Lots of people have asked what the "wounds" on the top of their tails are - theyre NOT wounds - its a chalk mark which is used to manage and determine when a cow is in heat I.e. when she is at the ideal time to mate with.
Other cows can sense that she is in heat and "mount her" which rubs the chalk off and the farmer can then spot that she is in "heat"
... all that being said ... they do look like wounds though! Ill give you all that lol
the hoof gp whats the worst hoof you have every seen?
Funny it was a second glance and came to a realisation that it was marker paint but in this case chalk.
Maybe if they used a different colour chalk people wouldn't be freaking out; I think I might have asked this question too when I first started watching your videos. Neon pink, lol.
@@jcee8493 Sky blue pink.... lol
J Cee Different colors mean different things. Red just happens to stand out better which is why we use it for hear detection.
I'm so glad to see they have them on a rotational grazing system. That's perfect for the cows and amazing for the grass! Their grass will get better and better as time goes by. A tip you might want to tell them about, if they didn't already know, is if they want to help break the pest cycle (flies) during the warm months, they can follow their cows with chickens 3 days behind the cows. The chickens will spread the cow's droppings as they search for maggots growing in the cow droppings. It'll be that much better for the cows, as there will be fewer flies for them to contend with, the chickens will be happy and they can have some pasture raised chicken or even eggs if they'd rather deal with that than with batches of cornish cross, and their fields will be happier because the droppings won't be concentrated to where they were left. It's an amazing system that benefits both the environment and the animals :)
I like the idea
How many chickens would they need for 1000 cows?
Wouldn't the chicken get lost at some point? The grazing area is pretty big.
It’s farms like this in the dairy industry that never get shown, thanks mate love the vids all the way from Australia
It really warms my heart to see cows being treated with such respect. This farmer is treating his cows like actual living creatures and not just a tool to make money. Good on all of you
HOW MANY LIKES CAN YOU ALL GET THIS VIDEO TOO?
ANY QUESTIONS YOU GUYS HAVE- ASK AWAY IN RESPONSE TO THIS COMMENT AND ILL ANSWER THEM ALL ON A VIDEO VERY SOON!!!
P.s. We're at 376 likes ad I post this comment ... as in now ... like right now 😀😀😀
Should the pastures be trimmed when not in use to keep from over growing or would cows just graze it all back to normal height?
So I’m assuming that you have been charged by a cow, can you tell us about that?
@@TheHoofGP
I think that YT is playing games again...at 22:45pm I have become number 281!!
What are your thoughts on other styles of crushes, I've seen some that tilt the cow on their sides, what's the pros and cons for the cow and trimmer?
These cows have a happy life. When you break a thousand down into two units it makes sense. Mega dairies are criticised, but good animal welfare and attention to detail is what matters.
I'm waiting to see the new crush turn into a transformer when the wheels raise
Which transformer that would be awesome to see sorry Gramm LOL
@@bonnieloomis5747 helicopter, get him home for his rea quicker lol
ROFL!!!
Too funny
I love how curiously the other cows observe what you are doing. Blessings to all.
They're intelligent animals
Hopefully it’d make them less nervous as their sisters come out the other side better than they were going in.
It genuinely makes me happy that this new crush allows you to work more comfortably. You're doing a great, admirable job
What a fantastic farm, runs like a well oiled wheel. The cows are so well looked after and cared for, great to see! Thanks for showing us around Gramne. Another great video!
what I like about this channel is that it's what youtube was made for, not music videos, not late-night comedy shows, just cool and interesting people showing their interesting lives. keep up the good job man!
I love it when you take us along and show us how different farmers run their farms. The way things are set up and the pros and cons of how it all affects the cattle along with the environment. ❤
At 2:06 it’s like you’re doing a live demonstration 🤣🤣🤣🤣 and the cows 🐄 are the spectators 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What do you mean "like I'm doing" .... thats exactly what was hapoenning .... they were great students 👌
The Hoof GP 🤣🤣🤣 ohhh my bad 😅 I hope they listened well and know everything they have to do from now on! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂
I love the song he used during the trimming... Nice guy's voice
I will never drink my milk in the same way...I will appreciate it even more knowing the story behind it! Thanks for the education on the milk industry next to the hoofs🥰
We’re not supposed to drink Cows milk anyway
Oh my goodness, the cow pictured at 2:59 has a perfect heart on her forehead🖤
Graham it was nice to see behind the scenes at that cow farm, how it works and how well they care for their cows. They go to great extents to make sure things are as clean as possible and the cows are as comfortable as possible no matter work they are. Thanks Mark Dutka Oakville Ontario Canada.
When I worked as a Groom with the horses in Aberdeen, my boss told me wind and rain will give you hypothermia quicker than snow. The rain soaks you through to your skin and the wind robs you of your body heat and it is the same for the animals in the field Graeme xxx My god Graeme but your office is affa bonnie there at the end xxx yer a lucky man xxx xxx xxx
I believe it. I've felt warm in the snow on a calm day and miserably cold in a late fall rain storm
How they milk the cows and how the farms are set out is very inspiring
Also make you wonder how dumb some vegans are...
I especially liked to see they are rotationally grazing the cattle, restoring the eons old relationship between ruminants and grass, building soil and sequestering carbon
Temple Grandin is partially responsible.
Probably my favourite vid so far! They look so so happy! Wish I got to work so close to such beautiful creatures!
The cow we see leaving the crush at 3:00, has a heart on her head and her left front leg! How sweet! ❤️🐮
I love the fact that you are so thorough with your explanations, but speak in language we lay-people can understand. I've been watching all the older stuff to catch up, and it's been a very fun journey of learning.
Fascinating look into this interesting dairy cattle grazing and milk parlor system! So many different aspects being considered every day.
I’ve been enjoying your videos since last fall and I’ve never commented. I have learned lots about trimming cows even though I have no personal experience. I live in Mississippi, in the United States and have only trimmed horses. Who knew it was so different... I’m commenting today because I wanted to compliment your videos from the air. Your scenery is breathtaking and it makes your videos extra special. Thanks for the beautiful bonus that you give us!!
Really thanks for taking the time to comment! I appreciate every one!!!
Awww I love the cow with the love heart on her forehead 💜
Thank you I knew to look for it because I went back you are right
timestamp please?

She's being let out of the crush @ 3:00 as well
@@alaenaparsons2403 :o) Thanks
Between this channel and Our Wyoming Life, I have come to greatly appreciate where my food comes from and the people who work so hard to provide it. Thanks Graeme!
Asesinos! Be vegans 🌱
Thank you for this great tour of a milking parlour. I have never seen one before. It is good to see the animals who provide our nutrition being taken such good care of.
I am so glad you are sponsoring products like Easy Fix.
When you share bits of your life outside the hoof trimming with us, it really makes us feel included amd less alone.
Thank you.
Laughed myself silly when I saw the cow crowd watching the new hoof parlor spew one cow then get to the next... they didnt know what to make of it... hope they liked it! Thanks for the tour... found the cow astroturf fascinating... and it got me reading and researching! And the 2000 yr hill fort killed me w envy!!!
How beautiful ! ! Much good thought given to these girls and what they contribute to the people of this region. Your care of of girls makes this possible.🐄🐂
Being from North east fife originally, and a country boy living amongst farms, I really miss the beatiful country side and all the lovely cows roaming about. Your videos really make me home sick for the place I grew up in. Wonderfull job you are doing, not only for the cows, but for my sanity. keep it up lad. Love to the family.
Thank you for sharing! Have a lovely weekend.
What beautiful country!!! I live in NY (Hudson Valley) and at the end of my road is a racehorse farm and just around the corner is a full farm with produce, cows and goats. I have really started appreciating the farms now looking for some of the things you have shown us through your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise!
the whole video is beautyful ! Thank you for 6:30 ! 👍
This farm is amazing. It's the closest to a perfect dairy farm that I've ever seen. The results speak for themselves, the herd looks to be in excellent health, and happy. The farmer and staff must work so hard, it seems to be the pinnacle of animal husbandry.
2% lameness is just a mind-blowing number, when you add in the herd size. The cows obviously love their routine. Top notch animal care. It's the amount of preventive measures that truly impress me. The fact that the herd just loads and unloads themselves into the rotary parlour speaks volumes to the careful application of knowledge about herd psychology, as well as how relaxed the cows are in human company.
Just eyeing over the cows in the vid, I couldn't see one that looked to be in ill health. Their bright curiosity, watching how spread they are in the field, and how contentedly they run about could not be a better testament to the farmer's dedication.
Best video yet! Loved to see the new crush, block info, aerial shots and dairy tour!!!!! More please. I'm an old quarantined cow myself - NW USA.... Will work in Scotland in a heartbeat....
You put your heart in that, very impressed! I love watching you work. I've watched other people, but there was not really any love in it. It was just a job to them. I hope Daisy is doing good! I live in Chattahoochee Florida. I've been a waitress for the last 39 yrs. You have a blessed year with your family and your two puppy's!
I'm really enjoying your vids but even more, I'm enjoying the commentary. I'm 70 yrs and gettin schooled. cheers and thanks for sharing.
This may be an older video, but I really did enjoy your videos when you provide information about the care and housing of cows, and of course, the view of Scotland is just breathe taking.
Hi Graham that rotary parlour is fantastic I've seen some but nothing quite like that, I love the fact it's so bright also the cow's seem to love it to, it must have caust a fortune but it's paying for it's self and that's the way forward and the care and wellbeing of the cow's is so apparent that's something I love to see.
Thank you for an update on how much better Cow's are treated, Like Queen's in your Country.! It's about time they Have Feeling too.!
💖😊👍🏼🇺🇸
Thanks for taking the time to go through all of that. I always learn something watching you! Have a great day Graeme!
I love the cow with a heart on her head 💖
So there was this one time my brother and I were chasing some Baby calves around and out of no where this momma cow just comes and starts chasing us down! 😂😂😂 good times
Ok that is the coolest cow milking setup I have ever seen.
Well gp you got me again now I wanna go frolic in da pasture wif da cows❣️✨ 🐄✨🤣🥳🙋🏻
I love watching these videos so relaxing watching you do the work and thank you for history and learning on diary farms
I love seeing the country and the cows and the parlors. Thanks so much for your videos. I enjoy you and Craig too!
Where I live we use the old style glue. It can take a long time to set , a retired vet who practised in a cold climate told us that the less liquids to powder you use the faster the glue sets and it doesn't affect the hardness of the glue or how long the block stays on.
Thank you for taking us on a tour of a beautiful part of your country, it must be fun to have 2,000 y/o hill forts dotting the fields. Those are some very happy girls.... 7,396 gallons a day.
Nice setup! Thanks for showing us around. Happy cows give good milk!
I remember the local dairy farm. It was extremely clean. I could walk there to get fresh milk. I learned how to open and close the giant tank. We would put the money into a coffee can. It made the best cream and butter. Thank for the memory and the tour.
But seriously this guy seems like the sweetest person ever
Fascinating work. I just spent a decent amount of months doing volunteer work at a North-East Scotland dairy farm and the insane dedication it takes to keep the animals healthy and the business thriving cannot be put to words. Amazing!
It's so nice to see the milking systems in place by modern dairy farms. You hear so much nonsense about how cruel milking machines are but when you really watch videos like this you can see the truth: that the cows are doing just fine!
You are such a pleasure to watch. There is never a dull video and you not only teach so much but you also show off the fabulous scenery and countryside of Scotland AND share the amazing dairy set ups and beautifully kept dairies and cattle. Can't begin to thank you enough for these aerial tours of a place I personally hope to visit before my time is up and do family research as well..lol. I've nothing against the big cities but my roots are rural and I truly enjoy seeing the quietness of the farmland there. Your new crush is amazing to see in action and obviously takes alot of hard labour off your back.
Thank you so much for all of your videos!!!🥰👍
I've been watching your videos for a little while now, it's great how you go through things you think we'd like to know about. I especially love it when you put in some shots of the scenery. I love Scotland, and I really want to live there one day, I feel like it's in my heart 🥰 Thanks for the videos!
I helped out dairy farmers that were neighbors to our cattle ranch in Okanogan County Washington USA. They were old farms but were still were very well taken care of. But when I got a tour of a modern dairy farm outside of Spokane Wa. I was blown away. Everything was automated. Automated to where the cows didn't have any human contact unless they needed some type of medical treatment. It was almost like they were robotic in nature. To me that it's so stark and clinical. Not sure if I liked it really, though I was impressed with the technology that was prevalent everywhere I looked. Even the chutes and the cows were totally cleaned and dried buy automated machines.
Brilliant set up, another hard day at the office, 🙂fantastic x
Absolutely love to listen to how u explain the inner workings of Dairy farm! Love from Tucson, Arizona USA
Have you ever visited or worked on a farm? Spent a few hours on one that was family owned in the early 70s. Lots has changed since then. Love how they are caring for the animals and how doing that has increased production and lowered the overall costs of farming.
@@jamesmckenzie3532 yes! 😁 I have worked on a farm and have visited many others. I loved the farm life of my youth. Seemed like always something new to do. My stepdad bred milk cows as well. Interesting and gross at same time!
I’m not a dairy farmer, I don’t own a farm, I live in the woods actually. But I LOVE cows and drink lots of milk and buy raw milk from a local dairy farmer. I’m not sure why I love watching your videos, except I love how dedicated to the health of “your cows”. I binge watch you just before bed as your videos calm me after a long day. Be blessed! 😊
I really enjoy all the information that you share about how the farmers milk and keep track of what is what! Thank you , we are now 5 that watch your show.. The virus has really made us look for different sorts of entertainment, especially since we are all quarantined still in Florida
how they milk the cows and their system is super super satisfying. u should come back and video the whole 1000 cows
love the scenery you have there. Lovely. Your quiet happy with that new contraption you got. Cows look happy as always. work safe, be safe. prayers to family during this awful virus.
I so love the drone footage at the end of the videos...what a lush land you live in.!
Loved seeing that milking parlour... real state or the art ... just like the new beast of a crush...
I have been watching you for a long time and I’m extremely happy to see you wearing that face shield Way to go God bless you and your beautiful family keep up the great videos very interesting work you do till next time
Everyday is a school day as they say.
I love Scotland, I have visited the stunning lanscapes on a few occasions and each time being blown away.
Keep them videos posted as I love the content.
Finding your channel has helped me relax so much during this mad time! Seeing the happy cows and knowing there’s people like you with genuine love for their job is wonderful! Stay happy and stay safe!
It’s so kind how you praise each farm and farmers work. Thanks love it at usual ❤️
Nothing breaks in a new crush like a thousand cows in a day~
I really enjoyed seeing the farm and milking operation.
It looks very progressive and modern, sanitary and clean with the cows needs in mind and uses technology smartly as well.Interesting.
Awesome farm, thanks for the tour. Stay safe. 🇨🇦🐘😍
It was so smart of you to get the NEW crush it does such a safe and good job holding those lady. you are such a blessing to these cows.
Thanks for taking us on a tour of this farm. Great to see the facilities.
Oh wow, I love this farm!! So clean and happy looking for the cows
Plus they are well trained to walk into the stall & leave - 1100 cows to milk 3 times a day 7 days a week -
The cows are so happy in your new gadget; so stress free! 😊
It’s nice to see around the milking parlour, cheers G P
Good old port william brings back memories born and bred there 👍
I squealed with delight when he said we are getting a tour of the farm.
The cow at 3:00 has white on her forehead that's in the shape of a heart! 😍❤️❤️❤️
Massive farm! Just love the cows 🌸
Thank you and the farmer for allowing us to take a closer look!
I replied to tour comment on the other channel ... I'll be doing more there soon 😃
Great video. I love seeing the scenery and learning about how the farm works. I love that the cows get to be outside most is the time.
To be honest, I don’t know how you manage to do such a good job every single time. Very well done!
I'm going back through some of your older videos in 2022, this one is amazing! I love seeing around this farm and learning about how it all works and why. Brilliant video!
Wow, those cows are guests there. Go out in the field and eat, prance around socialize, go get milked and a meal. And come back out. I imagine that is the dream life of a cow.
I love your videos when you show that Beautiful country .
Oh my 7yr old & I watch your video every night before bed in Charleston, South Carolina USA. She absolutely loved tonight’s showing of the whole farm. Ty Hoof GP ♥️
Trailer hook up...I had trouble hooking up my trailer even with the camera as the hitch is black and shadows suck. Once I painted the nose of the hitch florescent orange no more problems and I nail it everytime...almost.
wood blocks, old style glue, manual crush, those were the days
I hope to someday visit Scotland with my wife. It looks so beautiful.
What a wonderfully run farm and milking stations. Well done! Thank you for sharing.
They are lucky cows and with all the beautiful lush fields , they can frolic in I bet their milk tastes real good ! Awesome video Graeme. 🌾📷🐮
Wow, this farm is amazing! Thank you for taking us on the tour! :) I would never have seen this...
I'm glad that the cows can get outside.
Don’t know how anyone couldn’t but enjoy that video. Great stuff
Thanks Shane
I can see why you like that beautiful Farm so much, and thanks again for bringing us with you on rounds!! Here in Kentucky we have a lot of Herefords, and, some Jersey Cows. We even have brown Cows for Chocolate Milk !!
I live in the country with alot of cattle and you make me appreciate what all you and the caretakers of the cattle do and have to deal with. Thank you fornthe education. Ps. I'm in Virginia USA so you reached this far!
I had no idea how a dairy farm worked… there is so much thought put behind it all! Thank you for the tour and explanation!
Ace one, best one in a long time. Cows look ace, even there tail paints look well!(thats the wounds by the way.) Think it shows that happy people and happy cows are the most important thing and you don't need much. Just a parlour and grass.👍
What a beautiful farm maybe one day I will visit Scotland ciao see you
