I think we will be choosing 2 starter Pokémon again like we did in X and Y. We first choose from Snivy, Scorbunny, and Piplup, as their final evolutions will get regional forms. We then choose from the Kalos starters (Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie) as their final evolutions will get Mega Evolutions.
This would be so cool!
I was thinking along these lines as well. I really do hope the Kalos starters finally get their megas as they were glossed over in their OG game.

I think the kalos starter will get a mega but most likely they will be catchable in the wild and not gave away like they did with the kanto and kalos starters in X and Y.
Yes, I'm thinking that or give all three Kalos starters Battle Bond transformations.
Kalos is the only region to give us two sets of starters to choose from with the pseudo set receiving megas. Realistically speaking, I feel as though the starters for ancient Kalos will get regional variants, and the gen 6 starters receiving mega evolution
I personally think that both will get mega evos because I think that gamefreak regrets not giving the kalos starters megas. They gave the alola and galor starters Z-moves and gigas respectively, and im assuming that they see not doing the same originally with kalos as a mistake. This way they would fix their mistake both by giving the kalos starters megas and the other starters megas.
If they give gen 6 starts a mega, then they’d probably have to bring back Ash Greninja, since that’s basically been explained to be a mega evolution without a mega/key stone.
I'd love this because I need to see Mega Delphox flying on a broom.
This video absolutely kicked ass and the starter's prediction make total sense. Snivy, Piplup, and Scorbunny makes a great starter trio for Legends ZA

@@doomlord0773Popplio turn into Primarina, and it's signature Opera themed attack made me think of it more than Napoleon Empoleon. Something stronger than Football Scorbunny is Baker Emboar. I never really saw the Chinese inspiration on Emboar, but everyone I see it, I saw a chubby, Pig Baker/Smith. Another to change would be Royal Snivy for Floral Meganium. Snivy might be regal, but flowers were huge because of the Bubonic Plague and people placed flowers to help fight miasma.
Replace the Scorbunny with Torchic and you've got something. While football/soccer is popular in France, Blaziken = the Gallic rooster
I missed snivy. It hasn't appeared since what. Like white 2? Maybe alola? It's been gone a while. It was my starter in my first playthrough of both Black and white 2

Its Pokemon Z-A so obviously we need a Mega Charizard A as well. The insistence to overuse Charizard by GameFreak has ruined it for me used to be my favourite Pokemon at gen 6.

I think any starter combo that's not just kalos starters but with mega evolutions would be a disgrace. Kalos kickstarter the regional gimmick thingy and kalos starters not getting a mega form has always been a bummer.
What theyre probably gonna do is the same as x and y but legends so you get the legends kind of starter choices, then maybe they let you get another set of starters that are just the gen 6 starters but now they have the megas instead of the gen 1 starters

@@estaveler3288Maybe as a call back to X and Y you get 2 starters. The regional Variant ones and the OG gen 6 starters with new megas (like how you got the Kanto starters with mega forms). Though to be honest I'd prefer the Gen 6 starters with regional variants somehow because other than Greninja all the 3rd evolutions were kind of a flop.

You could argue Meowth in Galar had two forms at the same time, a regional variant and a GMax
And a new Evolution Pokemon too, totally different from Persian. They basically tripled down on Meowth. I'm kinda sad they stopped the regional Meowth love with gen 9. I thought they had something fun going with it being the one Pokemon that got a new form each gen, kinda like the Eevee of regional forms

I agree with you that this set of startes seems to make the most sense. Also I would LOVE Snivy as an option, Serpiroyal is my favourite starter evolution. But I could also see the trio being Snivy, Popplio (music and musical theatre is a big deal in Europe and in the 19th century Paris along with Vieanna have been THE dities for arts and music) and Chimchar as France has - especially in arts - a conenction to eastern countries such as China and Japan. French gangster and noir films are directly inspired by Japanese samurai films for example (as opposed to American gangster films).

This was my precise thought. With Rowlet being _more_ popular, it was solidified as the grass starter. Therefore needed a still very popular water starter
also i dont think the final evolution ratings matter that much bc they gave them new forms so it even if they did snivy we probably wouldn’t get the same serperior people know and love

We don't even know if megas will be competitively usable again. Imo highly unlikely unless gen 10 gets megas as well.

Every time someone mentions French Cinderace, I think about loading it up with headbutt moves and calling it Zidane. The joke is 18 years old at this point, I'm the only person that still finds it funny... but I find it *really* funny.

So on the topic of Scorbunny being a starter.
Since Arceus took place at the turn of the 20th century and the Eifill Tower was built in 1889 around that same time period, it's probable Z-A will also take place in a similar time period which could give us some hints to possible regional forms (or mega forms) as three major sporting events began or were happening in that time.
The French Open (1891): one of four "Grand Slam" Tennis events
The Tour de France (1903): The oldest of the three major bicycle tours in Europe.
The 1900 Olympics: Which was held in conjunction with the 1900 World's Fair in Paris that included a Marathon through Paris (won by a Frenchman) and the First Olympic football (soccer) tournament.
Either way I love the idea of Scorbunny representing the growing importance of Sports in France at the turn of the century.
Also, if regional variants exist for the starters, there's also savate, a French martial arts that incorporates kicking, so Cinderace can be Fire/Fighting.

Like in the original game, two sets of starters. At the beginning you pick between Snivy, Piplup, and Scorbunny, and they all get “Lumiosian forms”. Then you get to pick between the classic Fennekin, Chespin, and Froakie, and THEY get mega evolutions
Regarding the reconstruction efforts in Pokémon Z-A, it makes a lot of sense. In the 1800’s Paris underwent a massive urban reconstruction project that made it the Paris we know today (Haussmann’s renovation). It makes sense that we are doing the same kind of thing to Lumiose City, which is based on Paris
Part of the game could also take place in the Pokémon equivalent of the Paris catacombs which were built due to an overload of bodies in the cemeteries and it may be a reason why it solely takes place in Lumiose city.
@@AdrianP3833 Though it is a good idea it might be a little too dark for pokemon but then again there was the kalos war so they could make it for those pokemon if the game is set in that timeframe
I also thought something along the line with "world's fair" when the Eiffel Tower was built. This could help build up the city and also bring in people from other regions. With the next one in Osaka, I can see how it would be on Japan's mind now.

When it comes to the Culture of Hokkaido, most of the Hisuian Pokémon took inspiration from the Ainu, an indigenous group of people native to Hokkaido, the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin . The starters are not only based on aspects of their culture, but also on specific Kamuy (which are spirits in Ainu culture).
Oshawott was chosen because in Ainu culture, Otters played a very important role in creation myths, but also could be a reference to the Kutune Shirka, a story about a boy who was sent to hunt a Golden Otter to gain the hand of a Chief’s daughter in marriage.
Rowlet was chosen not only as a reference to Japanese archery, but also because the Ainu themselves were VERY skilled archers. Its also a reference to Chikap Kamuy, the Owl spirit who gives instruction to other Kamuy.
Typhlosion has a HELLA TON of inspirations! First, the Hyakki Yagyō/百鬼夜行, an event where a hundred Yokai would terrorize villages either in the form of a Parade or a Riot (which explains Infernal Parade). Its most underrated aspect however is that it took inspiration from Kamuy-Huchi, or the spirit of the Hearth, which serves as a keeper of the gateway between humans and Kamuy.
Sorry for the long ass explanation, I just thought it would be cool to fill y’all in with this info cuz the Ainu deserve more attention than they get.

Another point in Scorbunny's favor is "The Scarlet Pimpernel", a story about a English nobleman who goes to France during the French Reign of Terror. So an English character getting up to shenanigans in past France totally fits, too.

Although I agree with you, Mikey, there's another way to also see it when the starters are chosen: Generation.
Arceus had Cyndaquil, Oshowatt and Rowlet.
The Hisui Region was Sinnoh being Generation 4. Gold and Silver had it's remakes done in Generation 4, they also included a pokemon from the following generation, Gen 5, being Oshowaott and finally Rowlet, being a gen 7 Pokemon, Sun and Moon, USUM, were the last games in the DS era of Nintendo. Kalos is Gen 6. So although you excluded the Gen 3 pokemon because they got megas already and they also had their remakes with Gen 1, where they also gave all three gen 1 starters 4 mega evloutions, it shouldn't exclude them from the list. Charizard and Mewtwo are prefect examples of this.
6:15 Well for Hisui the starters all came from region’s Cynthia had previously travelled to. So we can potentially guess what starters are going to show up based on whatever region has been frequented by another prominent character whose roots are based in Kalos.
(Or Looker because he’s been globe trotting way more than Cynthia)
I mean... taking that into consideration, a Sinnoh starter is pretty much a given then. Sycamore studied under Rowan and Wulfrics ancestor was in Legends Arceus.
I think it’ll be piplup, Snivy, and then a fire type. The final forms are partially based on French stuff
I think we will mirror some of our experience from Kalos to the Z-A game. In Kalos, we received our starter, then received a Kanto starter, which can Mega-Evolve.
With this, I think what will happen is that the Z-A starters will be a regional variant and we will receive a Kalos starter that can Mega Evolve.

All I know is I'm turning 16 in 2025 meaning I can work meaning I could buy the game meaning I could finally use a braixen one of my favorite Pokemon also I think mega Delphox could be nice

I think there is actually a good reason for why Litten might be chosen.
I saw this video years ago talking about why so many European flags have lions and it was because there was a species native to Europe or something, but then they all died out or something.
So Litten’s evolutionary line being lion/tiger and being in legends Kalos would make sense, I think.

I had this talk with a friend, and we came up with the idea that they aren't going to do regional variants for the new starters. Instead they are going to use the original gen 6 starters, but give them Mega Evolutions.

I agree that the OG gen 6 starters are going to get Mega evolutions but I think we'll get regional variant starters as well.
While I would agree with that my problem is that its greninja being the only one I have doubts with on that cause of its ash greninja form which is a gen 6 concept first given it was in the anime before popping in the games in gen 7
I wanted for this to happen but it would be weird that they had megas in the past but not in the future, but I guess that with this being a post Scarlet/Violet game they could come up with another time paradox explanation as to why the gen 6 games starters lacked one

My exact thoughts! It is the perfect starter for a legends Carlos game. It literally is the French.
It's good if it had Contrarian ability. I remember benching all starters in Unova back then when I played through the game. It's a defensive Pokemon without Contrarian and is easily walled by Steel types if you didn't have HiddenPower-Fire

10:10 I had never heard about Serperior taking inspiration from Rose Of Versailles and Lady Oscar, but knowing that makes me like it even more now. Lady Oscar is one of my favorite characters in all of anime/manga.
Awesome vid, now theorize what new type combination these starters' regional variant will be.
IMO their final evolutions will be Grass/Electric, Fire/Fairy and Water/Poison
Serperior: Grass/Steel, Made slower and bulkier like a 'King'
Empoleon: Water/Fighting, Turned into a physical fighter like Napoleon
Cinderace: Fire/Psychic, Made into a special attacker (cheating Football player i dunno)
makes for an interesting starter dynamic, both being strong against Serperior but only these two are strong against him.
TBH France has more of a connection to cats so feel like Incineroar could happen.

Game Freak is so unpredictable and the trailer is so vague that I think they might really surprise us, making a game not as close to Legends Arceus as we all think and even changing the starters formula, like Colosseum did with Umbreon and Espeon. The game is already taking place in a single city, so it cannot be as similar to Legends Arceus. Why wouldn't they change more things?
We don't know that. We know Lumiose City will be prominent but we don't know it will be the only part we visit.
@ntolman Nintendo made a tweet for the trailer that says the game is "set entirely within Lumiose City".

5:04 It also seems that the game is based on the Haussmanization of Paris, which took place in the 19th century (Actually during the "reign" of Napoleon III). This can also be seen in the architecture of the initial sketch shown, which is very distinctly of that era (and is what Paris looks like in the modern day).
Honestly I'd love Chikorita to be in the game. I love that line, and it has potential. This game could give the attention and love that Meganium needs. But, my second favorite grass starter is Snivy (Bulbasaur being the first), so I wouldn't mind content of them.

Great analysis. I hope it’s correct as I’ve never had these Pokémon having stopped played in gen 2.
I was calling Snivy and Piplup basically right away myself, but my prediction for the Fire starter was initially Torchic. I figure the starters will get regional forms and Megas, personally, and the rooster is France's national bird. Which is probably why they gave out Speed Boost Torchic holding Blazikenite over Mystery Gift when X and Y first came out, and why Mega Blaziken got revealed way before the other two Hoenn starter Megas. But yeah- new Kalos game, new Mega Blaziken, it just felt fitting to me. Scorbunny would not surprise me at all, though, there's a definite connection there.
Going by your logic choices, i guess i'm picking Piplup.
Piplup was always my go-to when it came to the Sinnoh games because it became an instant favorite of mine due to the cartoon. Dawn's Piplup is the best

I was thinking the same thing, though I do hope they don't alter Empoleon's design too much in the final evolution. Empoleon is a practically perfect design imo.

Chikorita needs it more than any other starter. Predicting that if it becomes the grass starter it would likely get regional form based on the Ampelosaurus (a sauropod that was discovered in France).
If Infernape is the starter it's form could be based on the Barbary Macaque (the only primate in Europe which there is a population in parts of France).
While I agree Meganium needs help, I think of all starters Serperior is the single most likely one as its the only starter to appear in X and Y architecture. The gate of the Rich mansion (where you get the pokeflute) has two Serperiors as a design on it.
i love the idea of snivy getting a mega. gen 5 was my first gen so i hope at least the snivy prediction is correct

Since those Pokemon are already so French inspired they may take the ones that could add new inspirations so maybe we’re all thinking too heavily into previous French inspired Pokemon?

And they are all different animals, Serperior is a snake (reptile), Cinderace is a rabbit/bunny (mammal), and Empoleon is a penguin (bird).
Also I like all of these options so that's an added bonus

I have a feeling that if Scorbunny is chosen as one of the starters and gets either a new final evolution or mega evolution, that it will get the electric typing. Especially since in Lumiose City ( which is the city the trailer shows ) in X and Y, the gym leader there is Clemont. Which is an electric type specialist and since it seems the game might be about helping build Lumiose City, most likely would involve electricity since the time the game takes place seems to be more in the future or advanced than what’s happening in the Hisui region. Idk it’s just a theory, a game theory if you will.

Here's what I think. We will choose one of the Kalos Starters. The reason we had the diff trio in PLA is that they had no Pokeballs yet to capture the local wildlife and that Rowlett, Cyndaquil and Oshawott were all brought by the professor. Now that they have Pokeballs, it is possible for the Kalos people to catch and breed the local wildlife, thus, the Kalos starters. But thats just a theory 😅

i'm actually okay with them going for kalos starter, they deserved more love tbh (specifically chespin and fennekin). Heck even give them a new mega form and i'm still fine with it, which is something they should've done when they're introducing megas instead of giving it to the kanto starter

Truly never even thought about the Empoleon/Napoleon connection, I assumed it would be Primarina and it would get a Cirque du Soleil water bubble-juggling type variant/Mega instead but you've won me over with the Empoleon prediction.
I didn't think about Serprior as an option, and didn't really think about it being French-inspired. But it does make sense. But funny enough, I did pick Empoleon and Cinderace as the starters as well, basically for the same reasons. I kind of randomly picked them before coming up with reasons. My Grass-type starter I was predicting was Meganium, again, for no reason at all. Just had to predict something, and I also came to the same conclusions that the Kanto starters, Hoenn starters, and Kalos starters would not be options, and Typhlosion, Decidueye, and Samurott also being ruled out.

I'm not saying I don't respect that 5 world cup wins, but if you aren't humble, the crown of the Football Kingdom can be easily taken by say, Argentina

I was talking with my bf about it and knowing what little I do know about France culture, I think it might have a steampunk vibe. He disagrees but let me tell you my thought process. When Euro Disney was built they tried to play into France’s history and culture. Some examples were Victor Hugo, Jules Verne and the French Revolution. Considering how x and y are based on a metropolis it would make sense to not only include themes of Rocco but some early forms of technology albeit fudged slightly to fit Pokémon and pokeballs. What would be cool is if they had a dlc based on the French quarter in the southern United States. Even though it’s connected, I’d argue that quarter is sort of its own identity and plays well with the idea of steampunk as well. Also nautical Louisiana sounds dope as hell.

I would assume the starters have a regional form AND a mega.
I assume the mega stones are going to be a magic rock, and something gives it that power to make it react to that certain pokémon.
Having new forms for the starters would mean the stone would only react to that form - hence why there's no mega for those starters in the future Kalos (and also because they aren't in Kalos at all). This also means we won't miss out on transferring these starters to a different game, having a unique appearance, but just no mega.

When i first thought of this question, it did not occur to me that yeah, the starters will have a new mega instead of a new local form. And since its practically canon now to everyone that the mega evolution universe is separate but parallel from the non mega one, we can just ditch the inconsistencies of history once the next games arrive.
With that in mind, I came to the same trio you did, if Mega is indeed what starters will receive.
If on the other hand Early Kalos forms were done instead. My picks are Meganium, Incineroar and Primarina

I just got done watching this vid, and omg i hands down 110 percent agree with the starters, serperior is my number one favorite starter of all the regions, not only that, but their color themes all match and what they are all based off of makes complete sense, i love this starter list already, and hope it becomes the actual list, and hey if they do allow two starters to be selected, thats a bonus, cant wait for this game.

Between Scorbunny and Litten I think Scorbunny would make an excellent choice because of it ability Libero. When I looked up libero back when Scorbunny was release I learn that it can apply to soccer, volleyball and rugby. At the tail end of the Haussmann's renovation (what this game seems to be inspired by) British residents introduced Rugby Football to France. The renovation started in 1850-1870 and Rugby Football was introduced in 1872.
Serperior is my all-time favorite Grass type Pokemon. I DEEPLY hope that it's one of the starters. I miss my royal serpent a lot.
The other two are also good picks, and I would be quite happy to see them utilized. While I would like to see Litten get some attention, Scorbunny is my favorite Galar starter, so I'm not upset about it. As for Piplup, I really can't decide which of its trio I like more, so any of them would have worked well for me (I used to hate Infernape, because I don't like monkeys/chimps/apes, but thanks to Caesar the Infernape getting me through a Platinum Nuzlocke, it has really grown on me).
I love Empoleon, its one of my favorites, and the reasons you listed make sense, but i love feraligator even more so i hope its the water starter.

I feel like including a legend abt greninja and its transformation (since mega evolution will be back) could be a cool touch, or maybe like the kalos starters can be obtained but are see more as legends. Bc imagine ancient ppl seeing a Delphox, they’d probably make legends to explain its strange powers. And maybe chespin final evo could like have been said to protect ppl from disasters.

Legends can also imply that the story revolves around the Legendary in the title, such as Legends Arceus, so this new game might refer to Zygarde (Z-A)
