Why not for the power and ground just crimp ring terminals onto the wires and attach them to the IGN and GND screws for the oil guage? No need for dodgy splices then.
Awesome install! Canbus is the future and I’m so glad to see you are bringing some awareness to the Miata community about it. It is unbelievably versatile.
Cobalt Exhaust is really good. Personally I think it's one of the best sounding exhausts for the Miata and they make a Dual Tip version that just looks awesome
I have a 99 with the bp4w. Its running a cobalt mid with hi flow cat and a roadster sport muffler. I am super happy with how it sounds. Not too loud and very little drone.
Pro tip, put a fuse on that spur for the power. I had a canchecked die from powering off the gauge (seemed to blow the regulator after a couple of cranks after a stall or three) and took part of the film on the cluster with it. I now have the replacement powered from an extra fuse box I installed for additional gauges, sensors, and hard wired chargers and it's been good as gold since.
I have the roadstersport 3 and I like it. It does drone on the highway but I wouldn't call it unbearable. The 4th version is supposed to address that with the addition of a resonator. If it sounds anything like the 3, you'll probably like it.
I have the roadstersport 4 with the sport cat and it is a very good sounding exhaust. Not too loud. At freeway speeds (80ish) the wind noise is louder than the exhaust unless you get on the gas. Idle is very tame but when you get the revs up it gets aggressive sounding with slight pops on engine breaking.
roadster sport 4(heimholtz) FTW. I just did a.complete exhaust, headers, all the way back, sounds great, not too loud imho, but also not too quiet either.
I took the packing out of my isr muffler and it stopped most of the drone, has a kinda older f1 rasp to it, I like it Raceland header, custom mid pipe with resonance chamber, flex joint, round magna flow muffler, then depacked isr muffler
Roadster Sport 4 for-sure man. Mine hasn't arrived yet, but I'm looking forward to a tunable exhaust, no drone, and a personality that responds appropriately to different driving conditions. Look forward to seeing what you choose.
Absolutely recommend the Roadstersport. I have the midpipe and the 3rd version of the muffler. It sounds awesome and its my understanding that the 4th version is even better
Great video. I am torn between the CanChecked gauge and the Plex uSDM-102 Pro. The CanChecked gauge has the advantage of fitting the OEM gauge cluster. On the other hand, the screen of Plex uSDM-102 is twice the size of the one from CanChecked gauge. It can also be mounted closer to the driver's natural of line of sight. Decisions, decisions...
That's the coolest thing. I'm always looking at stuff like that daydreaming to the day I'll build an e36 (have an e46 as daily rn, remember we talked about cooling systems on insta lol) and the ecu I was looking at has an integrated wideband controller and I thought it was dumb to have a wideband with no physical readout and adding an aem on top of that didn't make sense either, a solution like this one makes so much more sense, is similarly priced to an aem uego and also solve my other problem : too many gauges can look tacky but at the same time you need the info to keep the engine safe
to do a Y splice in aviation we just cut the spliced wire, use an environmental butt splice, one side has one of the cut wires and the wire you're connecting the other side has the other end of the cut wire, shrink the environmental sleeve. no tape
I just got a cobalt and I would say it's a solid choice. It's pretty quiet but it's still loud enough to drown out the noise of my RB intake, which used to be the dominant noise with a stock exhaust. The main perk is little to no drone. I don't know much about the roadster sport but it's definitely quieter than the Cobalt.
I have the Cobalt exhaust on my 99nb. I highly recommend. It uses magnaflow parts with quality stainless tubing and sounds great. Not very loud but really adds a nice tone. I have a sound test vid on my channel.
This might be perfect for me honestly. Having a RHD Eunos it’s hard to find a pillar pod setup. I really liked my N gauge in my mustang and this is basically the same thing
@@DirtBikeRodz what do you mean which distributor? Canchecked sells it themselves. Thats where i bought it from. Greg made them too popular and after an hour of the video posting u saw the website was over loaded 😂 got lucky to see they had 5 left after i finished my order
@@Vaft91 Nice!.. finally got mines😂,, are you running MS? If so where do I enter my settings on tuner studio? I have all the settings on the CANcheck already but having trouble making it communicate with my ECU
Thanks for the video and helped me greatly with my decision to move forward with one that just came available on BOFI. Question, why not use the IGN and Grd where the gauge screws are instead of splicing the cluster wires?
I have a cobalt catback, overall it's not terrible but the sound is on the raspy side. On the plus side it did not drone at all and on low revs and cruising didn't sound that bad. I ended up getting a magnaflow high flow cat which actually changed the tone to a deeper sound which I was not expecting. Sounds much better now but I would like something else eventually but for now it's fine. May I recommend looking into a yokana or fujitsubo? Personally think the Jets integral kobe N1 sounds the best but it's very pricey! I think that's what Quinn is running on his car.
Come on Greg, get us some fresh Canyon carving uploads. Also, I just sold my old RoadsterSport "race" axle back. Sounded amazing & only weighs in around 9lbs compared to the stock @ over 20.
I've got a Roadster Sport 4 exhaust with less than 2k miles on it, I'd be willing to trade you (for the ISR), if you came up to Portland!!! I'd love for you to check out my boosted NA, since you had such a large part in me building it!
Glad you like it ✌🏼
Where can I order one from?
@@steveaguero8483 TurboZentrum
Where can I buy one from??
In the USA
Not sure if they're any dealers in the US yet
Why not for the power and ground just crimp ring terminals onto the wires and attach them to the IGN and GND screws for the oil guage? No need for dodgy splices then.
That's a baller idea!
Big brain move 🧠 I like the way you think
You the man Jacob
I did this. As per my other comment; regulator fritzed out and wrecked the PCB foil. HIGHLY recommend moving it to a dedicated fused feed for power.
This is how I wired mine up a couple of years ago... Flipping love this gauge 😍
Well that'll be the CANchecked out of stock for the foreseeable future

I adored my roadstersport exhaust. IMO its the best sounding Miata exhaust there is
Awesome install! Canbus is the future and I’m so glad to see you are bringing some awareness to the Miata community about it. It is unbelievably versatile.
I have a cobalt exhaust and I gotta say it’s my favorite miata exhaust ever!! Great sound without being too loud!!
I have the roadstersport 4 and I love it.
It’s loud enough to be fun but not enough to be painful. And on the highway i can only hear it a tiny bit.
Cancheck is great. I'm loving the gauge faces.
CPC video means its a good day.
I've wanted a digital dash but didn't wanna lose the gauges, this is perfect!
I've got the roadstersport. I like the fact that it has an included baffle and is not insanely loud or raspy.
2:15 That was a smooth ad for sure hahah thx for the video master!
Was littraly looking at this yesterday wandering if it's fit into the oil pressure guage place 🤣🤣
Cobalt Exhaust is really good. Personally I think it's one of the best sounding exhausts for the Miata and they make a Dual Tip version that just looks awesome

Watching that outro every time really wants me to see the red car back on the road... Loving the NB content tho! I've got an NB2 myself ;)
what a coincidence, mine is gonna arrive tomorrow, excited!!
Loved the HP Acadamy ad 🤣
So good!
I had the roadstersport 3 and eventually upgraded to 4. The 4 sounds crisp and clean and has no drone!
Smooth transition from you indoor, to you, outdoors.
Just got one and finally finished setting it up, it's sick. If you are on the fence do it it's great for stealthy bois like me

Best way to get the 12v supply is just using GND and IGN from where you removed the oil pressure meter.
I took the packing out of my isr muffler and it stopped most of the drone, has a kinda older f1 rasp to it, I like it
Raceland header, custom mid pipe with resonance chamber, flex joint, round magna flow muffler, then depacked isr muffler
The megan OERS cat back is a sweet exhaust that keeps it cool at idle and sounds like a sports car when you want it to. No drone either confirmed.

I had a cobalt system on my mk1 with some 4/2/1 headers and a cat delete and loved how it sounded i will be putting another one on my next mx5
