i know this is one of your old videos but ive been watching this particular vid religiously on VVT swapping my 93 Miata. so maybe you can give me a direct answer on this question: where would hard wire the VVT signal wire to megasquirt? i have a MS2Pro. someone told me it should be wired into the the option port. so i followed up on the pin map for that port and its not very clear where it should go. thank you for any help that you can provide!!

You described compound turbos backwards. The big turbo feeds the small turbo, not the other way around. You said it in reverse, and you also said "that bigger turbo taking air that's already pressurized and ramping it up more." The bigger turbo (usually sized to roughly double the maximum airflow) draws in atmospheric pressure, then the small turbo draws in the charge from the big turbo and pressurizes it further. I'm nitpicking, I know, but it's going to bother me if I leave it uncorrected đ It actually works out pretty handily, because often you'll be using something like a low pressure turbo with a 3" outlet feeding a high pressure turbo with a 3" inlet, in which case you don't even need to neck the charge pipe up or down.
Ah yeah I had it backwards. The exhaust from the head feeds directly into the small turbo and then flows through the big one, but the big turbo actually gets the fresh air and feeds it to the small one, yeah?
did you just torque the oil drain plug?
On the ones without gap, can't you just take the shim off completely and measure the clearance? Subtract your tolerance and now you have the shim size
It's a bit tricky to measure the gap between the lifter without a shim in it, and the cam. But as long as you can measure it accurately, sure.

1:50 in, I'm gonna predict 10hp from headers and exhaust. Edit: Only 6? Weird. I know of a company in Germany that does JUST exhaust conversions that gain 10. Maybe with some more tuning...? Maybe the exhaust is slightly too large in diameter?

Baller video dude, thanks. Only needed to raise my base idle on stock ecu on my 2000 NB. When I shorted the TEN to GRD with a paper clip it killed the engine, so that was weird. But the screwdriver lowering the idle fixed my rough idle.

Did I miss something or was there no mention of the PPF alignment ? apologies if I missed it but I watched the video twice and didnât see any mention of it. Itâs quite important on a gearbox out job to make sure the PPF is aligned correctly when putting the box back in.

Not if the car doesn't have a variable factory oil pressure sensor, like 1994-2005 Miatas. But even the 1990-1993 oil pressure sensor is not readable by the ECU, its info is only displayed on the gauge cluster.

High school auto mechanics class showed us the tope method. Its the old tried and true.methid. i have done them by aoplying compressed air through the spark plug hole also đ
2015 Buick Lacrosse V6 100,000 miles. Symptom oil fouled spark plugs causing misfire. Dealer wanted to replace bank one cylinder head stating it had porous casting. If it was porous it would have failed the first 3,000 miles. . googled oil consumption and found common problem with valve stem seals . Thanks for the tips

@@TheCarPassionChannel jeeezuz ive got a turbo converted na miata with standalone ecu and small other things pushing 300hp but i have the original gearbox 5 speed wich fkn sucks ninja shift into 3rd and the gear is gone tho i do have the diff and rear axles from s 1.8 wich i guess helps a little but i have to do smt about the trans
@@sieshvh At 300whp you should consider moving to a Miata 6-speed transmission. The 5-speed typically won't last long above 250whp, depending on torque, and how you drive. I would love to be on a 6-speed still but I kept breaking them, I'm now sitting at 465whp, 500whp+ haha

@@sieshvh The 6-speed is a direct swap for the 5-speed, except for, I believe it's the reverse light connector. Something really simple like that. And if you're putting the 6-speed into a Miata with a speedo cable (not electronic speed sensor) you need to swap in the mechanical speed sensor. It bolts in without modification. The axles & driveshaft you use only depend on the differential you use, transmission doesn't matter.
I just want to say, this content it good. If you want to know hat would take it over the top, drive it harder. Show us what it is like on the edge. I know what it is like in my 03 LE but it would be fun to see the edge your car too. We all want to see the edge.

100% yes bro. This is coming from a guy whoâs owned Porsche, lotus, Mercedes amg, Hondas, fast euro hatches. Currently main car is an EVO X with 720whp. Iâve got a miata also. Weâll actually 2 but only ever have one on the road đ (tuning them is super cheap and addictive and you can do it with a ÂŁ200 tool kit on your driveway or better a garage - also you donât need any mechanical knowledge really just a âIâm up for thisâ attitude and access to CZcams. Seriously easy. This was my go to when I moved to the states after selling my lotus exige I was scared to buy anything super expensive in case my job didnât work out. So I bought one of these and put a turbo kit on (admittedly a very good one and i had an excellent and insane Serbian mechanic help me- Thatâs a whole other story the guys insane đ) Anyway I had that car smoking lambos. Iâm not exaggerating. It was ÂŁ/ÂŁ better car than my exige. & I had an exige â260cup Roger beckets Editionâ tuned and pushing 320whp. Before I go to work late from typing this (I think I got adhd or something but whateverđ) I strongly recommend to buy a 1.6. People always go for the 1.8 for âdisplacementâ but the 1.6 is infinitely better if youâre going to turbo it. Which Iâm betting you are. If youâre gonna supercharge then maybe maybe 1.8 but I still prefer the 1.6. I have consistently had them running 260whp on pump gas and that gives you a power to weight ratio thatâs higher than most supercars. For example the Bugatti veyron is 500 to the ton. Ironically the caterham R500 is now updated at 530 /ton. It has only 310bhp and is probably the fastest âCarâ Iâve ever driven. I donât count âtrack attackâ cars as they canât be driven on the road. At least not in any reasonable sense. You feel like a right dick in an Ariel Atom when it starts raining i promise you. (You also feel pretty stupid when you dropped 80k to buy one and you see a miata in the mirror and plant the loud pedal. Then look in the mirror and see itâs still Fkn there! đ One of my school friends now has a McLaren and I saw him in my evo last week. Iâve had that thing for 6-7 years now and itâs mechanically perfect. Like perfect perfect. Absolutely mint condition. Like a new car. He goes âawe man⊠like⊠why canât you sell that and get a Ferrari like you always said!? Thatâs gotta be running you about the same!!â (He knows his maintenance costs- he is not a great driver by his own admission but heâs a very enthusiastic guy) Anyway he asked me to drive it so he could âsee how fast it really isâ I respect that so much. He knows Iâm a very well trained driver and he openly admits that heâs not the next stig. Takes a big man⊠anyway. I did. & Itâs fun/fkn fast. But⊠but⊠if i had just spent the value of a house on a car I wonât lie: that would be disappointing. I donât care what anyone whoâs got one says or anyone who fanboys over them: they are disappointing. Fast? Well yeah if youâre not a âcar guyâ which leads me neatly into my next point: he asked me; âwould you have this over your evo?â âWellâŠ. I love this, super cool super fun. But I wonât lie bro Iâm a bit disappointed in the build quality and for that money⊠Iâd buy a miata and spend 20k on it and keep 180k for something else and Iâd be faster than you 100%. Not only that, I could proudly park it next to this car and I know it would receive as much if not more attentionâ He agreed with me but hes not biter about it. He just wanted to tick off a bucket list item. So my point is: yes buy a miata. It will do anything you want it to from a budget of $1000- 50,000â Thereâs just so many things you can do with them. To answer the real question: you can buy a âgoodâ one for around $3000 and you can have it up to spec âyour wayâ Whichever way that happens to be for a high end car (not engine swapped I honestly believe thatâs a waste of time since you can get 300bhp out of the issued engine)unless you just want to cos you can. You can have a super high end car that looks the dogs danglers for around $8000. That wonât break on you so long as donât cut corners in the build up. Happy birthday brother from another country.
