I’d purchase Lost in 4k. Sopranos 4k is a no brainer.
We need 4k releases of Miami Vice, Lost, Band of Brothers, and Battlestar Galactica
Sopranos 4K is a definite pre-order.
All of The Sopranos was shot in 35mm, it ended in 2007 and serious digital (Arri Alexa) didn't come around until 2010.
You know what needs to be released on 4K? Tales from the Crypt! They have yet to put it on Blu-Ray so they should just skip to 4K. If WB can afford to remaster every episode of Friends and Sopranos on 4K, Tales from the Crypt is a breeze.

Sopranos was shot on 35mm all seasons,as well Breaking bad and the Wire.The Roots would look amazing in 4k as it was shot on full frame 35mm
If WB can do boxset for Friends, they better do one for Nightmare on Elm Street!

the netflix aspect ratio is garbage. :(
It's official for Friends. And every episode is newly scanned in native 4K and will have HDR10.
It's the original broadcast length episodes as well.
Not the shorter cut versions..
I believe the original broadcast length ARE the shorter versions. The longer uncut episodes with additional jokes/scenes is forever relegated to standard def DVDs
@InfiniteClouds According to other sources it's the syndicated episodes and the blu-ray/streaming versions that was edited and had scenes changed.
I preordered Friends 4K once I heard about it. I just hope it includes the extended episodes.

I keep praying to the old ones every year that we will get a real Buffy, and Angel HD transfer. That bullshit hatchet job that was put out, is such an insult. Buffy is owned by Disney now through Fox, and with the Sony deal the chance is slime -- but still possible. A 4k with all those silly rubber monsters would be pretty wild.
Breaking Bad , Better call Saul , Seinfeld , Dawson's Creek , The Community , Cheers , The Handmaids tale , Yellowstone, Outlander, ..etc are on streaming services in 4K they just need to transfer them all to disc !

Ugh, DVD isn't usually fine just because something wasn't shot in widescreen. If it was shot on film, it would be absolutely brilliant on 4K Ultra HD. They did the full Snyder's Cut of Justice League on 4K Ultra HD and it is marvellous. Sure I'd love to see all those shot on film shows like The Sopranos get a proper 4K remaster, but the source material being film is all that should matter for older TV shows, not AR.
Friends is one of the most successful TV shows of all time and is incredibly important to Warner Bros. brand, so it makes sense to start with this. I think these transfers will make their way to Max and since it was shot on 35mm it’s pretty important to the preservation of these iconic shows. I’m sure more are to come

It’s pretty successful but idk about all time. They are releasing Friends on 4K because it is one of the most watched shows on HBO Max currently. The reason for that is like me, I put that show on in the background all day long because its easy and a comedy. I’m not watching it but mostly just put it on for my dog and don’t have to keep switching to something else.

Damn near everything prior to 2010 was shot on 35mm or 16mm.
Some shows like Sopranos and Star Trek TNG were shot on film instead of tape. So for shows like that a 4K release may look better than than ever.
Most shows and films were recorded in 35mm or 16mm (used because it was "cheap"), HBO still uses 35mm in several series such as Succession, Euphoria, True Detective
Sopranos and Seinfeld need 4ks. Two classics like Friends.

How about a series like Due South, which was only released on dvd, where the quality is terrible and unwatchable nowadays. Blu-ray and at least fullhd would be a miracle!
The show we all really need to be remastered in HD: RENEGADE (1992-1997) starring Lorenzo Lamas. Not even 4K, just give me HD. But I also agree... Step by Step would be lovely to revisit for Dana vs. JT alone.

Every episode of Friends and every episode of Sopranos was shot on 35mm film - as was Breaking Bad and Seinfeld. So all would looks nuts on 4K disc. I'd love to see The Walking Dead get the 4K disc treatment too, although shot on 16mm rather than 35mm - it still has such a sick aesthetic and looks great. Better Call Saul wouldn't benefit from a 4K transfer as it was shot completely digital (always thought that was a shame they didn't do it on 35mm) and as we know - films and TV that were shot digitally don't really have drastic differences from blu ray to 4K.
It doesn’t need it but I think it would be a big time seller would be The Office.

Watch that show all the time and it has aged so well! It’s a shame they re-edited it to what Disney& paramount sell on dvd.
Twin Peaks on 4k would be great, almost everything that David Lynch has ever done is on 4k so it is possible

It’s possible the Sopranos films were for the sopranos documentary coming on hbo they just showed in the recent ad? Or maybe the documentary is being made to get people to get excited for the Sopranos 4k.
All being said, some would look like shit on 4K, depending on how they were shot. Aspect ratio and recording quality would majorly come into play!
You don’t need to stretch the aspect ratio. Just let it be whatever it is. You’re not missing anything just because your TV can handle wider images. I don’t get why people have hangups about that.
And many TV shows were indeed shot in a way suited perfectly for 4K (color and resolution) simply because many shows, surprisingly enough, were shot on film. (Some sadly weren’t, and will never look very good. Bosom Buddies being one.)
I'd love for The Wire on 4K but I doubt it ever happens. David Simon has a very detailed blog post about the 1080p transfer and how changing the aspect ratio detracted from Bob Colesberry vision as he was forced to film everything in 4:3 after trying to convince HBO to film in 16:9.
Couple quotes from his blog that stick out:
"At which point, Bob set about to work with 4:3 as the given. And while we were filming in 35mm and could have ostensibly “protected” ourselves by adopting wider shot composition in the event of some future change of heart by HBO, the problem with doing so is obvious: If you compose a shot for a wider 16:9 screen, then you are, by definition, failing to optimize the composition of the 4:3 image."
"the new aspect ratio’s ability to acquire more of the world actually detracts from the intention of the scene and the composition of the shot. The shot composition was purposed, and clever, and it works better in the 4:3 version than when the screen is suddenly widened"
Well any shows that we're shot 35mm deserve a 4K UHD Blu ray set it's just the matter of the price in my opinion
Gonna stick with my DVDs. I’m not too picky when it comes to TV shows. However, Baywatch would be cool to see on 4K.
Whoa whoa whoa. Get in line. The West Wing is stuck on dvd. Let’s get that out on 4K first and then we can discuss the Sopranos as a 3rd series to upgrade.
I don't see the appeal of Friends coming to 4k if you haven't bought it already. If it's a show that was shot on 35mm and has a fan base that would buy any new editions it might be worth remastering . I would see the benefit of The X-Files coming to 4k since the blurays are Out of Print.
Yeah it's def 35mm. X files blu ray looks really good so I I'm sure 4k would be incredible.

Too much work to get the X-files on 4K. They would have to redo a lot of the special effects. @@MrBlue3rd

The wire, west wing, breaking bad, the muppets show, x files, twin peaks, the twilight zone, black mirror, Wonder Woman & midnight mass are what they should be releasing 4K since they look good and would transfer well to 4K even from the tape source.
I hope we see more but I prefer everything in 4K. I just hope its not reformatted and they keep it 4x3 or 1:66 but things made to be widescreen like modern seasons being shown native 1:78.
I hope that this is stuff we get on discs but a lot of 4K and even 8k/16k scans have been done that we don’t get till decades later so I’d assume discs are always made last and we will see them on streaming first
I really hope this opens the door for a Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul 4K box set.

Egads. I'm not young (62) but I'm certainly not dead. In my case, I would love to get the early seasons of M*A*S*H in 4K (or Blu-ray) but I don't need the entire series.
Similarly, most of the shows that might interest me are ones where I would only want the first season, such as Twin Peaks and NYPD Blue.
The two shows I most want to see get physical media releases aren't currently available on any type of disc -- the first season of Fernwood 2 Night and the first two seasons of SCTV (there's an "early years" DVD set but it starts at season 3 🤔).
No disrespect on the age thing, I suggested All in the Family lol... I do believe that's how the powers that be see it though with shows that ran before the 80s/90s.
MASH was filmed in such a way, it might be possible to upgrade to 4k. Hogans Heroes was also shot on film, I believe. I think they've already been upgraded to 1080p. All in the Family would be a lot more difficult. It currently looks really poor broadcast in HD.

I own Saved by the Bell the complete collection on DVD, including College Years, Good Morning Miss Bliss, the Wedding, and Hawaiian Style 🤙🏻 lol. Give me that shit on 4K. I'd love upgrades for all my 90's TV shows.
I've had my eye on that Saved by the Bell DVD set for a long time, hoping one day a Blu will be released...

Modern family please I'm begging. They only released blu ray for only the first 4 seasons. The complete collection I on standard definition DVD. And the shaking camera on DVD is nauseating. Please let's have a premium collection of Modern Family

Does Stranger Things have a 4K physical release? If season 5 provides a great ending for the series, I might consider buying a complete collection. Season 4 is not my favorite… Season 3 was a’ight. Season 2 was a bit of a reboot of Season 1… but all is forgiven if they stick the landing with Season 5. And then END IT!!

Friends doesn’t deserve the 4K treatment. Seinfeld definitely does but Jerry thinks there’s not enough money to be made for the amount of effort it would take which really sucks. Friends is far inferior to Seinfeld and I wish Jerry would come around
