I loved this series so much and feel Elise Kova is a great, very underappreciated author! She and this series deserve so much more love!!!

Wow, this has been on my TBR foreeever. I already own the trilogy but it has been sitting collecting dust because I keep getting distracted by other books (we all have been there lol). Thank you for the review. It does sound like something I would enjoy so I'm going to pick it up asap. I have read other things by the same author and gotta agree with that other comment, she is pretty underrated.

I made the mistake of trying the audiobook first but it is so unique with the terminology and world that I’m reading my physical copies.
The covers are 🤩 and what drew me to them in the first place.

Hi Elliot, I have read this book (I've got the whole series). I did enjoy it but I did go into it knowing it was YA. The description on Fantastic Fiction says it is a YA book. I enjoy adult fantasy much more but sometimes just want to read a YA. Anyway, I'm looking forward to finishing the series.

I agree about the video game aspect! Especially since I loved the world and premise, but I put this one down bc of the writing. It was just too much hand holding and I was very frustrated with how we jumped perspectives so quickly. Specifically how the first Three chapters are three different perspectives but all three of those characters are still standing in the same room and hadn’t moved in terms of action. I’ll try to pick it up again at a later date, but your warning about the writing style was spot on.
Thank you for that! I agree about the “hand holding” description. I’m personally not the biggest fan of that style, but the world was really interesting and I was curious where the story would go. I’ve heard the sequels are better, so I might check them out too :) But heck yeah about it being a video game! That would be awesome 😄

Ugh, that's the main reason I don't read much YA these days is because of that tendency to over-explain. (My brain likes a bit of a workout.) But the world and story itself sound interesting!

Thanks! And I get what you mean. Sometimes the writing can be a little too on the nose in YA books. But then sometimes in adult books I’m like, “what the eff is going on?!?” So a combination of both is a nice balance 😆

Aye! 3 videos in one day!? 😃 This definitely has gives me the same feeling I had watching cartoons on Saturdays as a kid except I get learn about cool new books. From what I gathered from this review; I like the plot is straightforward Although it does seem like a lot is going on a once in story lol. I like character building to extent. I dont want one character taking up 3 chapters to get to know unless this leads to a different book. I may see if I can check this out at book store/library because I'm not sure I'll buy it right away. All in all, this video was awesome like you Elliot. Happy Reading on the next video lol 😆🌠

Haha, I call them Saturday Morning Reviews, kinda like Saturday morning cartoons 😆 I think trying to check it out from the library is a good choice if you’re uncertain 😊 it didn’t feel like the plot was confusing despite it being short and probably sounding like there was a lot going on. At least I didn’t think so!
Elliot Brooks you are right! It wouldn't be fair to give this book a bad light without giving it a chance. Plus I can always refer to this video if I need a refresh on what it's about 😊👍

I enjoyed this book but definitely prefer her Air Awakens series. I found book 2 and 3 not as good as Alchemists of Loom sadly, but like you said the world is really interesting!

I remember reading that Elisa Kova meant for this to be young adult, but when she turned it into the publisher it was labeled adult fantasy by them.

I have been wanting to read this series. I feel NeverNight by Jay Kristoff is adult but no it’s considered YA. I love that series but the graphic sex just makes it adult for me! I can not to read your book!
Thanks! I picked of Nevernight awhile back but didn’t get the chance to get into it much. However, just from the little I read it’s WAY more adult than Alchemists was 😮
