I tried this with a 6 foot length of garden hose. It worked perfectly. I was really surprised.

This is an insane coincidence. But reading this I was confused before I realized that I only had my left earbud in. And so I didn't realize the absence of sound on the right

I wonder how many parents were surprised to find the end missing off their garden hose.

Excellent demonstration, wouldn't surprise me if some inspired viewers have formed their own hosepipe brass bands and regularly perform the club, pub and festival circuits! :) Found a good example hosepipe brass band performing at some American jazz festival thought I'd share Trombone Garden Hose Band - Great American Brass Band Festival

I think Rob has! He is certainly an accomplished trumpeter.

My jazz band did this a few years ago, and we played a piece of music that involved spinning the hose around while playing to make a weird, nyyyyiowww nyyyyyioowwww sound. We named them the Hose-a-Phone.
Another similar invention was the Didgeri-bone.... A Didgeridoo with sliding PVC pipes inside so you could play a good range of notes on it.
