Saejima would honestly mop the floor with Ryuji. Despite popular belief, I think Saejima is both stronger and tougher than Kiryu, but the reason Kiryu is able to match him is because he more of a skilled fighter, knows more moves. Saejima is way tougher than Ryuji is what I'm trying to say.
Pretty much thats what I also think, Saejima needs more skills to be the strongest character in the whole series, he is hella tought and physically strong, he just needs more skills (KOMAKI PLS TEACH HIM)
People sometimes forget that Kiryu mop the floor with Ryuji 3 times, 1 in disvantage

Also Saejima definetely knows how to fight and use his strength conservably.
Look how ryuji fights, although strong he is super clumsy, fights like a kid. Saejima on the other hand relaxes his muscles. He knows for the fact that tensing up all the time only difuses his power and slows him down. Saejima by all means is not slow, he's quite fast but most of his techniques require him to charge up
@@xian6612 Since when did Saejima fight Kiryu for the third time? Iirc, there are only 3 instances in the canon when Saejima fought Kiryu.

Imo I think kiryu might be 2-3% tougher than Saejima. Here are my reasons:
1- In the Yakuza 5's Kamurocho hills shirtless rooftop showdown Kiryu arguably fought the tougher opponent (Watase). After the fight when Katsuya gets shot even he kind of admits that Watase was stronger than him and that he should be the Omi Alliance's next chairman.
2- During the fight against Saejima and Majima in Y7, Ichiban's whole party stalemated Majima & Saejima. I know Majima and Saejima were holding back during the fight but if you notice at the end of the fight Majima and Saejima were sweating and breathing heavy whereas Kiryu was able to sweep Ichiban's entire party on his own and he was neither sweating or trying to catch his breath.
However, I think there might be a chance that age has finally caught up with Majima & Saejima which is why I'm not 100% sure about the second point. These points make me believe that Kiryu is probably at least 2% tougher than Saejima. Another proof is that they have yet to face off against each other in a completely neutral territory. Their Y4 fight doesn't count because Saejima was sick and on death's doorstep while Kiryu was holding back during that fight.

Hey, I wrote a new headcanon. It involves Saejima breaking in Yakuza 1, then fighting Ryuji in Yakuza 2. Read it, then let me know what you think of it.

That's a plausible scenario. I mean, if Saejima became good friends with Hamazaki and helped the latter to become a better person, I have no doubt that Taiga could've become best buddies with Ryuji.
Headcanon because why not (still waiting on a new Yakuza Headcanon vid, MaskedSmoker where'd you go)
In this scenario, Saejima has broken out of jail just 2 decades after that incident in 1985, and had shaved his hair in order to throw off the cops. After meeting with his Kyodai Majima, finding out about what happened in 1985 (the rubber bullets), foiling Jingu's plot, and witnessing the incredible battle between Kiryu and Nishikiyama, Saejima had opted to take the role as the 5th chairman after Kiryu handed the position to him. Terada was secretly scheming together with a mysterious fellow named "Kei Ibuchi"; Somehow, the two managed to fly well under even Majima's radar.
Fight 1:
Saejima had just finished clearing out the Omi HQ, where he finally meets with the legendary Dragon of Kansai, Ryuji Goda.
"Ahhh, so here we have the legend himself; 18-Count Saejima. The Tiger to Kiryu-han's Dragon. I wanted to take HIM on, but I guess yer gonna do. Yer the stronger tiger, not like that wimp Shimano! Har har!"
Ryuji roared with laughter, reminiscing about the time one of his men allegedly had an altercation with the Tiger of Sasai, and also witnessed yet another altercation between him and Shimano. He especially remembered the part where Saejima straight up WIPED THE FLOOR with Shimano.
"Just give it up, ya big brat I'd rather not have ya stirrin' up a storm 'round here."
Saejima sighed, just wanting this to be done and over already. He's already nearing his rage breaking point, and Ryuji's just about to be the straw breaking the camel's back.
"Wo-ho-ho, we got a hotshot 'round here! C'mon, kitty! I'm rarin' for a brawl!"
Saejima spat on the ground next to him, before roaring, charging at Ryuji, who did the same. The two men grappled briefly, before headbutting each other a total of three times, getting more violent with each one. The third had them split up, as the two assumed battle stances.
Fight 2:
Saejima had just fought his way to Kamurocho Hills. There stand Ryuji before him, smirking.
"Ahhh. There's the man o' the hour. Damn shame Kiryu couldn't come by, though yer his equal whether ya like it or not. 'Least I could get a fight outta this. What a blooming battlefield for the Yakuza! Strip, Saejima!"
Saejima obliged; It was the only natural thing for any self respecting Yakuza legend to do. His powerful physique was in full view of everyone to see, as Ryuji did the same thing. What Saejima did NOT expect, however, was Ryuji drawing that pompous blade for once.
"Ryuji... Shameless bastard. Our supposed climactic fight, an' ya pull out a blade with nothin' for me to use. How honorable."
Saejima snarked. But Ryuji didn't respond; The Dragon merely pointed his menacing Katana towards the Tiger.
"Hope yer ready..."
Ryuji growled, before lifting his blade over his shoulder as the two commenced fighting.
Fight 3:
"I never knew how much of a sorry kid ya were. Manipulated by everyone 'round ya... Treated as nothin' less than dumb muscle by that snake Takashima... That fat bastard Kim... Ya had potential, y'know."
Saejima solemnly spoke. Him and Ryuji stood before each other on an elevator.
"Hell do y'know 'bout manipulation...?"
The Dragon growled, enraged at the pitying Tiger.
"I was used as a pawn; Those 18 men slain by my hands? They were rubber bullets. My kyodai Majima told me that. I was just a pawn in the chessboard of the Tojo and Ueno Seiwa Clans."
Saejima explained, not losing his solemn voice.
"Damn... THAT Majima? The same one-eyed Mad Dog I met back in '88? Ah, doesn't matter. I just want my glory... I wanna join the legends like ya. Like Majima-han. Like Kiryu-han."
Saejima smirked a little.
"That so? Heh. Yer lookin' at the right person to earn yer glory. Ya wanna get that glory? Then take it from me. Fight tooth an' nail to get it. And don't start cryin' like a li'l baby when I break ya. Got that?"
Ryuji nodded fiercely.
"A'right then. BALLS OUT, RYUJI!!"
The two roared as their fists flew towards each other, knuckles slamming against their cheeks. The two recoiled briefly, gritting teeth, as the two began to brawl before a massive ticking time bomb.
Wow... This story definitely encapsulates both Ryuji and Saejima's personalities really well. It's entertaining to read for sure. Shame that MaskedSmoker went into a hiatus though....

Saejima might be the only guy in the entire Yakuza series who can make Ryuji look small by comparison. I think he'd likely have defeated Goda with medium difficulty at worst if they had somehow fought in Y2.
Goda is definitely a beast too, but Saejima literally beat the crap outta human-eating giant bear.
Saejima will win. No argument would prove to be valid at this point.
Just wanna say that Jo Amon was originally the same size as Ryuji in the original Yakuza 2. He'd probably bitch slap him using the ultimate essence if he was in the way of Kiryu.
They’re both pure muscle in contrast to Kiryus pure skill, only Saejima is very clearly packing bigger guns.
Actually, Ryuji is still taller but only by two inches (Ryuji is 6’5”, while Saejima is 6’3”). In the end, Saejima will still kick Ryuji’s ass.
@@shadowmamba95 Believe it or not, but Ryuji actually used to be 6'3 back in the day (before the dragon engine, Ryuji was stated to be 191 cm, or about 6'3)

Kaito's EX Actions fit Saejima like a glove, especially the headbutts. Plus, that stomp Heat Action looks great in DE. Amazing video, as always.

Honestly Saejima with 2 quicksteps combo would make him a lot more enjoyable to play. His default roll in 4 and 5 makes him a bit clunky imo. It fits his character well, but also makes him less flexible in a fight.
