    The last bike I built ended up with a swapped engine, forks, swingarm, wheels, rear shocks, and eventually an entirely different frame. When I look at the NC700x stripped of it's bodywork, the design is amazing. I think it will be the base for my perfect adventure bike build. I think it will end up looking like a Halfrica Twin.

    Very few modifications on my nc. Used Ohlins shock in the rear, madstad windscreen, Skidplate. I did get an auto-oiler, bc I had to put an (expensive!) no-oring chain on it and I'm bad about lubing the chain, plus it's out in the elements at home. Heated corbin seat, bc the stock seat was torn. Road all the way to Colorado from Louisiana, and back. Gravel, dirt, asphalt, no problem. Took it into the grass one night bc we were tired from the ride, might as well have been on pavement (of course, I kept it vertical, no lean). One time (on a different ride), I went wide and into a ditch, it climbed out no problem without even stopping. Thing is a tank, only thing it lacks is fuel capacity, which can be resolved with some aux tanks if necessary. I love it. I do kinda wish I got a newer model year, but the 2012 isn't missing much.

    • @benb8075
      @benb8075 Před 10 měsíci +1

      Gotta say the rear shock was the most important modification. Dunno about later years, but the 2012 bucked like a horse on the road before the mod. Absolutely terrible. The front isn't great either, but it is more than bearable compared to the rear.

    I remember when these came out I had a chance to ride one (NC 650) for a couple of monts. I believe the low rev torque is because the NC has an "undersqare" engine, and was in fact made of a "split" 4 cylinder car engine. Having ridden more than 20 bikes I rmember this one to be ergonomically perfect and very frugal on fuel. Come to think of it I found it to be just about perfect, however, it had only been used to commute through London with the odd trip on days off.

      @@FranksWay yes the transalp 650 and 700 have the same wheel axle, the diference is the 650 forks dont have the abs bracket, the 700 dont have a 21 wheel, so i can use the 650 wheel with the abs disk just need to instal it, and i need to use the 700 forks bottom because they have the abs bracket, and use the 650 fork tubes. One more thing! How many milimeters have the forks extensions that you have made so that the front wheel dont hit the radiator?

      Hi,before the new Alp was released,i had my own thoughts of the best adv bike,these included,low centre of gravity,light on fuel,light in weight,long service intervals,21 inch front...the NC has by far exceeded all my expectations...Honda should have incorporated this into the new alp.But i am just a small builder,what do i know 😀

    Very curious if you have any tips for the newer ‘23 model. With the suspension travel being lower. How would you go about transforming it. I used mine for a commuter but I can’t help but want to mod it. I have a dr650 for dual sport rides but I haven’t gone on a dual sport ride in 2 years so I wanna give the long distance adv touring job to the nc but it needs some work.

      Hi Frank! Finaly i could instal the transalp 700 abs rear wheel, just have done what you have told me, for the Record the transalp 700abs axle is the same as the transalp 650 so no problem at all, now i am adapting the front forks, but i am thinking about instead doing the triple tree clamp mod, i am using the honda nc original triple tree clamp and now i am trying to adapt the front wheel, brake Callipers and abs sensor with some custom adapters since the distance between the forks are just a little diferent, i believe that i can make it work, when i have some results i will update you, thanks again!
