  • Honda's CTX700 is a great middleweight cruiser with exceptional fuel economy and of a manageable size, if your current motorcycle is starting to get a little bit heavy this may be for you. Or maybe you are looking to upsize from a smaller capacity machine but don't want to enter the more expensive heavy cruisers.
    Hopefully I have covered the questions you may have in relation to this motorcycle in my review, if not please feel free to ask in the comments section or email me at standupmoto@gmail.com.
    If you enjoy the video please give it the thumbs up and subscribe to the channel and share witha friend.
    Thanks for watching, cheers.

    Excellent Video.... I toured with the same model bike 2015 Metalic Silver CTX700N early Fall 2023. A 3000+ mile tour in the USA lasting 15 days. The tour began Day One heading South in the rain on the Interstate cruising 70 - 80 mph for 140 miles. Then the weather cleared as I entered onto a 2-lane Hwy 55-60 MPH through most of Ohio, then camped. Day 2 onto Ohio (555) then West Virginia Hwy 50 and camped in the Dolly Sods Wilderness area. Day 3 WV Hwy {48}, to Virginia Shenandoah National Park (Skyline) and midway camped. The next day I connected to the Blue Ridge Parkway (Virginia/North Carolina) camping a few times in the Appalachian Mountain Range before reaching the Smoky Mountains in Cherokee North Carolina. While in the Smoky Mountains, I made base camp in Robbinsville North Carolina at a Motorcycle campground. During the next few days, I left all the gear at camp and rode the bike on the paved mountain twisty roads one being the "Tail of the Dragon". The bike was a blast to ride. I averaged about 60 MPG even on the Interstate, except going through the mountains where I averaged 50-55 MPG. The bike was smooth riding well beyond my expectations. The bike held up well in the wind (installed a windshield) and rain as I passed 18-wheeler Semi Trucks on the Interstate going 75+ MPH, so it seemed. Who says the CTX700N is not a tourer bike? lol.

    New to your channel today, and yes I subscribed. Landed here when I Googled Honda CTX 700 and your video popped up. I saw a CTX 700 for sale locally on Craigslist today and again, not knowing much about this bike, I Googled and viola, here we are.
    I read reviews of this bike several years ago when it came out (none NEAR as good as this one) and most were fairly luke-warm so I kinda pushed it out of my head. Now I have to rethink many of my misconceptions about what a modern standard is, because even if they call this a cruiser, it looks as practical as a standard from the 80s and 90s. Most cruisers are not.
    I liked your practical explanation of everything from engine design to braking distance. I've been riding street bikes since the early 80s, but haven't owned a bike for about 10 years. Decided recently for several reasons that it's time for another one. I thought I was looking for a standard, think z900 (like my GPz I bought new in 1981) and I'm comfortable with the slightly forward riding style of those bikes.
    Now I'm going to have to peruse your entire video collection to see what else I've been missing. This is one of the best bike reviews I've seen since starting my journey back to where it all began about a year ago.
    Really. Great. Review. Make more, please.
    Thank you.

      @standupmoto  Před 3 dny +1

      Thanks Mike & welcome to the channel, yes some reviews of the CTX didn’t exactly paint a desirable picture for sure. Many tend to compare this bike to motorcycles twice the price & size, that’s not what the 700 is about. It’s a lightweight economical cruiser that is very easy to live with & own, I would suggest talking to any CTX700 owner and get their opinion (all that I have come across love them).
      I think test ride one and some other motorcycles of this capacity, I would say you will be pleasantly surprised at just how nice it is to ride. 👍

  • @senateaustin
    @senateaustin Před 6 měsíci +7

    Had it for 2 months. lots of fun, you can ride it hard like a sportbike when you want to due to the low center of gravity. There are some shortcomings but they can be addressed. 1. the suspension both front and back is not great, but the rear specifically is an issue because of the foot forward seating position. a bad bump can send a terrible about of shock directly into your spine. I upgraded to the YSS shock, had to import it from the UK through Brooks Suspension. It is a much stronger shock that won't bottom out like the OEM shock. front suspension could be better, there are options out there to improve it (emulator cartridges, etc,) but I probably won't mess with it until I need to. The other big issue is that the seat is not comfortable. Looks comfortable doesn't it? It isn't for more than 45 minutes to an hour of riding, it will put your butt to sleep because its soft foam. Again this can be addressed with a Corbin seat or custom from Seth Laam or Russel Day Long. I haven't done it yet, but I will. MPG's are absurdly good, 60mpg +. The tank is small but not an issue because of the excellent efficiency. I've ridden with my wife on the back, it can be done, but not a great 2 up bike, not super comfortable for your passenger, she feels beat up after 45 minutes of riding and that is on the upgraded rear shock. Overall I am happy with the bike, It got me back into riding after I nearly died on a CBR600 (hit by a car) I miss the top end of the cbr600 especially on the interstate, the CTX700 gets blown around a bit on the interstate, but on backroads I love the low end power delivery of the ctx700 and the handling is near sportbike levels. There are deals out there to be had on these bikes which is what makes them such a strong value. Also very reliable Honda motor.

      @standupmoto  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Hi, thanks for the feedback. I’m not sure if this has the standard seat on the bike I reviewed here but it was fine for me, yes I think the rear shock could be better. I definitely found the buck on certain types of road surfaces but overall I think the CTX is a very nice middle weight cruiser with as you said fantastic fuel economy, cheers.

      The OEM suspension cripples the bike, I too went with a YSS rear & cartridge emulators and springs on the front. Once that's sorted the remaining quibbles are the fuel tank size, lack of temp gauge. For a bike to do everything from multi day rides to jousting with in town traffic, its the best I have ever had.

    Best review of the bike I've even seen on this model. I'm in my 60's the Harley wide glide is getting to be a bit much for me. I've owned bikes from the 50's to modern (200+). To quote another video on this bike, it's a swiss army knife of bikes. Probably one of my favorites. It doesn't do anything exceptional, but it is just a pleasant and happy ride for every day. I saw a saddle bag frame from England. No bags, but I have used military mortar round cans in place of bags. 65-75 mpg is the best part. Wish you well friend. Panniers, i heard black leather panties. If you ever want to come to the US, you are welcome to stay a night and take mine anywhere in the US for a road trip. Keep in mind it's 24 hours straight south and 32 hours straight west from where I'm at. I've got a torn rotator cuff and probably won't be able to ride this year. If you do visit I would hope you could put me and my lady up to visit your next of the planet. Why aren't you doing documentaries. Well spoke, Knowledgeable. Have always had a bucket list item of doing the Route 66. Visited the US for 6 wks in 78, in fact had my 18 bday on the flight over, loved every minute of it. Probably a bit old & decrepit for doing documentaries, they want young good looking Jimmy Stewart types but thanks for the vote of confidence. Good luck with the rotator, if it takes too long to heal maybe think about a CanAm Spyder, I’ve got one and they are great 👍.

    Nice review! Very thorough! I've had a CTX for about 3 years - great bike. Mine is the fairing model with DCT - just the package I was looking for when I got this one. Great fun to ride through the twisties, handles highway work fine, as well. I've been riding for 56 years, owned a bunch of bikes (mostly bigger road bikes: HDs, Goldwings, BMWs) - I added a Blade (Givi) topcase and a mid-height windshield; floorboards and a Corbin seat. This bike will handle all the road riding I want to do (not inclined to take it off-road like in the video). I think Honda missed the mark on how to market this bike while it was in production - I consider mine to be a "sport cruiser". The DCT is a real treat! Those who think of DCT as an "automatic" bike are missing the point of it - in Sport Mode, it shifts pretty much the way I would, with still having the option to down (or up) shift manually with the paddle shifters - faster and smoother than most humans can do it. A very enthusiastic thumbs-up for the CTX!
