- How to Remove Honda Element Tailgate Inner Plastic Piece
Today I show my buddy Vince who requested some information how to remove the Honda Element's rear tailgate plastic piece to gain access to tighten the tailgate closing mechanism. I hope this video helps others maybe install a backup camera or other accessories.

Six years later and still helping folks. Thank you!
Thanks bro. Appreciate your time in removing panel for us.
Very good man. Just what I needed.!!
thanks for watching! glad it helped!
Happy to see another informative video out!
If you have any requests, let me know!
Thanks for video. I'm trying to access the back of my license plate bolts because they are rusted in. Gotta try to spray penetrating oil from back and hopefully free them without snapping.
Thanks for posting this video
David Kastin no problem! Hope it was useful for you!
@@GuntherSnaps Maybe one day it will be helpful. I've owned many cars in the past 40 years but this is my favorite One. We have his n hers and my gut feeling is they will outlive me.
Will taking this off allow you to get to the back of the license plate bolts? Mine broke off
The closest you are going to be able to get to.
Any video on taking off the outer panel?
I have the same question!! I cannot find a video for this.
Thanks for the video. Can you talk more about sound deadening/dampening in the element? I did the tailgate and the rear sides and haven't seen much improvement. Do you think once I do all 4 doors I will see improvement? Was thinking about doing the spare tire area as well. Not sure I want to take the floor liner out though.
Harold Carlson the element is kind of a “tin can” I️ did both doors on the driver’s side and plan on filming another video doing the passenger two doors when it warms up. I️ can’t promise any improvements but it’s got to be better than not doing it at all.
Hi Harold. Curious what year your Element is? I have 2 Elements but road noise is not an issue in either one ✌
I need to take off the outside tailgate panel. Do you know how to take that off? I have a crack in it and need to repair it. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!
Anyone know a name or part number for the latch seen at 2:18?
Great video, also no one cares how dirty it is
i would cater with my element, got so nasty!
Not sure what you call it but my handle broke on the hatch above the tailgate... does anyone know how to replace that?
the external handle?
@@GuntherSnaps Yes. I believe it's the rear hatch external handle. The plastic handle piece broke in half and now the hatch handle won't even work so I cannot open it? Probably the Honda dealer will want to charge me $600 to fix it... lmao!
@@OfficeofthePacific yea dont ever go to a dealer. Learn to fix it yourself. Pop the tailgate off like i show in this video and then look in there and see what you can see as far as bolts go. I would guess it's 2 10mm bolts holding a mechanism up with a cable attached to it. let me know if you have any more questions
@@GuntherSnaps thank you
Liked the info on your vid. (simple food-for-thought: It's ok to re-shoot the entire vid before posting. Just bringing the camera down to waist height would have provided the perfect viewing angle.) You don't have to, but you can always re-shoot and re-post in a shorter vid. Remember: the shorter the vid, the more views you get.
Maximo Kenzo I liked my angles. Usually my wife helps me film but I donno she must have been busy. But thanks for the constructive criticism. I enjoy comments like this! Thanks!
