- Steve Wozniak discusses his early days at UC Berkeley, and how they led to the foundation of Apple.
A Silicon Valley icon and philanthropist for more than thirty years, Steve Wozniak has helped shape the computing industry with his design of Apple’s first line of products the Apple I and II and influenced the popular Macintosh. In 1976, Wozniak and Steve Jobs founded Apple Computer Inc. with Wozniak’s Apple I personal computer. The following year, he introduced his Apple II personal computer, featuring a central processing unit, a keyboard, color graphics, and a floppy disk drive. The Apple II was integral in launching the personal computer industry.
In 1981, he went back to UC Berkeley and finished his degree in electrical engineering/computer science. For his achievements at Apple, Wozniak was awarded the National Medal of Technology by the President of the United States in 1985, the highest honor bestowed on America’s leading innovators.

He doesn't put him self on the very top, he doesn't make a big deal of his invention, he just love what he does. He is full of respect to his partner. This guy win in life.
Jovita Angelina Unfortunatly, he lost :'(
r2c123 Lost? At least he's still alive [too soon?]
Communistpeppers
Being alive doesn't mean you won though XD
👍👍 thts true
+r2c123 he got more money than you, me, and everybody commenting here. So yes, he won :-)
Steve Jobs is the visionary leader and salesman of Apple. Wozniak is the brains and heart of Apple at least the original Apple. Such an amazing inventor, tinkerer, engineer, and human being. So grounded and humble and open to sharing.
+80schampion Although I would argue that Jobs was also the heart of Apple. Also, he surely learnt a lot from Woz. Bill Gates once said "even though Jobs is not an engineer, he has amazing intuition for what works and how to do it". I think much of this comes from spending so much time with Woz in the early days.
Keep in mind, however, that it's his humble and gentile heart that is the reason why he didn't stay in Apple. But that's fine. He's still Woz.
The Hacks-By-Jack Channel
Without Wozniak's technical expertise and support there would have never been Apple and Steve Jobs would have possibly ended as a visionary lunatic frying at McDo or selling insurance on the phone.
I bet he could've figured out how to fit a headphone jack on the new iPhone.
Withous Woz there would be no Apple and Jobs (who just preyed on Steve, his talent, and geniune frienship) would have no money and no fame.
he's the king of all nerds, engineers, programmers
Our King
our king
@@RabbitConfirmed hes the big daddy
And Linus Torvalds
I'd love to spend an afternoon in his presence. That guy's such a legend 🤩!
He's like the personification of joy. What a fantastic guy.
You're thinking of Roberto Benigni. Woz is great though!
They probably both beat their wives
I rate this the best TED talk, a good reminder to all goal-driven folks, what life is about - fun. :-)
You are totally right.
Could not agree more. Woz is just an amazing person!
Jobs had an amazing friend...
Really
And, in the early days, took huge advantage of him. Woz always had the right ideas in mind and it seems Steve always had his fame in mind.
i wish he was my friend..
@@chrismofer And Jobs is rotting in a grave.
yeah wozniak is a great human
Woz is like that great, kind uncle that you'd always want to hang around with during the weekends, telling all those stories.
A big salute to Woz.
You can tell from every time you see him talking that he is a decent kind man.
Agreed! My thoughts exactly.
By all accounts, he is exactly that.
OMG my brain is overclocking trying to follow his stories.

Obviously, you need more cores. And more RAM. Especially more RAM.
Steve Wozniak has been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Engineering Degree by various universities for his contributions to technology.

Aged like wine.
I love Woz so much. Jobs made tons more money but Woz won in life. The guy just loves life and life loves him. He has no filter.
Woz uses the high tech device for notes. Pencil and paper....WOW!
Unlimited battery life. Paper-light.
Donald E. Riley
Nice point :-)
Us "old timers" that fully lived the computer revolution, I myself had the first b/w videogames in 1978 and programmed in Basic by 1983, do still prefer "analogic" support.
Today I do own 2 computers and iPhone and an iPad, I'm online 24/7 since 1998, I do work (oviously) online and am part of a revolutionary Mobile marketing company....but I still fucken have paper and pencil available anywhere. :-)
It's 100% reliable, never runs out of memory and can be easily stored for years without any care.
It doesn't fail, it doesn't restart, and the battery last a lot of time ;)
Its thinner than the latest macbook, iphone or ipad, and power efficient
Donald E. Riley ... Nothing wrong with it.
Met Steve once in the mid 80's at a computer convention in Dayton, Ohio - nicest guy in the world, very personable - so opposite of Jobs.
His mind is too fast for his speak that's all 😊great recap of his life 💖
Woz is one of the best examples of, "If you enjoy what you do, you will never work a day in your life"
Just 15 seconds into the video and I liked it the moment he said he was feeling nervous on stage..what a genuine guy _/\_
I am big fan of steve wozniak
we all are
Woz kicks so much ass.
Woz is the sweetest guy
THere are now 2 movies on Steve Jobs. Are there any movies on Wozniak?
+Darryl “darvlaskie” Wolfe Not dead yet
Maybe, after his death..!!
Why wait? Im sure wozniak is jealous by now..+الرجل الوطواط
+Darryl “darvlaskie” Wolfe He's not dramatic enough.
+Darryl “darvlaskie” Wolfe He pretty much didn't do anything big after leaving Apple so there is no inspiration or climax to make a movie.
Wozniak truthfully and transparently shows his discoveries, beliefs, passions and evolution. That is a true human! He's an incredible computer inventor era and yet he has his little paper notes. 😂😂 We NEED to learn more from Wozniak.
14:20 Listen to this, over and over.
Can't leave this vid without a thumbs up. Always humble. Way to go Woz.
Steve's a great story teller that's why I read his book iWoz in one single day.
That didnt translate in my country
I just wish I could meet this incredible man, shake his hand and tell him how much of an impact he made on the world. What an amazing person.
Love listening to him. The speed is so satisfying. It’s like I’m learning in fast forward.
Wozniak is obviously a genius & good guy... it's sad to think how times have changed from his days in college though. how many of his pranks would land a kid in jail these days and potentially ruin his future. America has gotten way to uptight
He's like my grandpa, always telling the same stories. But I like him! He invented the bests tools for my life.
He'd probably only have to tell them once if you actually listened...
:-/
Hey, it's the guy who invented the universal remote control!
+WaterDrinkersUnited 99 percent of people don't realize that
+Leo nsn I guess they keep getting caught up on this microcomputer for use with video display thing he invented several years earlier.
@@leonardokim5504 really?
The more I see of Steve the more I like him, he reminds me of when your a kid and you find something you're absolutely crazy and passionate about. I used to love computers when I was a kid, I was lucky enough my dad had gone through a bunch and kept them so I took all the best stuff out of them and built my own. Sorta fell by the wayside but after seeing the custom water cooled computers you can make now, and cheaply I'm in love with it again lol
I freaking love this guy! Every time I watch his interviews I can just almost touch his happiness...
What a sweet noble, humble and kind soul. We, nor he is perfect.. but, wonderful is good enough for me. Thanks Wazza!
The real brain behind Apple...
I prefer this "Steve" over the other!!
; )
Shinobi Engineer Nah our Steve right here would have kept his mini computer right inside his own garage and away from civilization
The more accurate name would be Stephen.
@@justinnamuco9096 Apple would honestly be complete nothingness without Jobs, Wozniak was great though.
@@skyebynes612 agreed
He talks like kendrick Lamar raps
+Ian Prado get a swimming pool for of liquor then you diiiiive in
ZFox57 be humble. sit down.
Nice!
Woz is a great guy. If you want to get to know him a bit better...read his book: "I Woz". I only know him from his interviews and, his book but, he is the kind of guy I could just meet on the street and talk for hours with.
Pure joy. Love this man.
What a warm soul, so full of life. A very enjoyable talk. If my college experience is half as interesting as his it will be a wild ride.
Sorry, it won't be - especially @ Berkeley... :'(
Do yourself a favour and research why that's the case..
..and if you decide to go there after all, hack it back :-)
It's impossible not to smile when listening to the Woz.
My dad's work colleague invited him to New Zealand for an Apple convention, to his surprise - He turned up! So he stayed with the colleague. Much respect to this guy.

Woz figured out how to imprint his amazing personality onto Apple II motherboards. Pure genius.
Thank you Mr. Wozniak! You are a good man.
He's humble and calm hope there are a lot like him
Great video and a brief understanding of what Steve Wozniak is like as a person, as I didnt know much about him really before
This made me cry.
He is one of my favorite people - he is the antithesis to Jobs!
He is sweet, kind, nerdy and altruistic.
Imagine how much of a better place the world could be if Apple, one of the largest, wealthiest and most influential entities in the world, had been guided by the values of THIS Steve instead!
Tim is making up for it.
The company would go bankrupt in the first year
Tobias Henriksen
That’s a thought! Maybe Apple wouldn’t be the mega company it is now, but they would make really really remarkable computers and smartphones and amazing inventions... useful and fun things. Wozniak wouldn’t be pushing a new iPhone every year through the world’s throat... Apple would be a very discreet affair only for a few happy followers... and Keynotes would be like this!
They'd probably be nothing what they became. Jobs had a lot to offer. It's not just the technical side to make these things work; there's a lot to choosing what to put in, what to prioritize in the usability, and how to make it work economically.

Wow! One of the better Ted talks in recent years.
What a lovely person and genius at the same time.
Amazing and fascinating entrepreneur! Love the talk!!!
Thank you so much for teaching:)
The guy is manifestation of JOY itself and happy life
thank you Woz, was avery nice presentation
He's wonderful :D
Damn clever as well.
I love hearing when people share what they could have kept for themselves.
James Gandolfini was another guy who did that: he got paid much more than other cast members, (not sure which show) so he shared out the difference.
That touches me, and I appreciate not only that type of person, but their view of the world.
Best part .... 13:58 😂😂😂
Woz ...is truly a living legend ....
He is my idole.....it's b'cz of his dream to having its own PC we all are able to make our dreams true....
Thank you Steve Wozniak...🤘👍
My God, I love the Woz! One in a million.
A common challenge with "the guru talks", is that we sublimely perceive these people in the bias of their accomplishments, rather than the other way around. Learning with focus on their nature.
That being said, Steve Wozniak is one of those quiet innovators who inspired my engineering mindset, people approach and the creative process.
It's worth to mention that every anvil deserves a hammer like Steve Jobs. Personally I think you can't have one without the other.
Steve Wozniak, you're my hero!
This is the most efficient talk I’ve ever heard
good guy in the tech world
BF3, best game ever...
The most Underrated talk
Gets really good @13:16. Talk about a selfless guy who defines good karma and knows the path to happiness.
Steve Wozniak is such a great guy. THANK YOU LORD FOR STEVE WOZNIAK.SUCH A BEAUTIFUL HEART
best TEDx talk of the year
I just hope that more people are like people in the 80's and 90's. Friendly, compassionate, more or less hope to come in the world, leave the world a little bit better than we found it
I am watching this video again after many years. It just reminded me why I loved Woz so much. It's like he has figured life out!
Woz is such an honest, kind and just an overall fun person! I loved his autobiography. To anyone here who still hasn't read it: you HAVE to read it. That book changed my life for the good.
Steve Wozniak has the heart at the right spot! He got what life is all about, the polar opposite to Steve Jobs. Where Steve Jobs wants to restrict, confine and lockdown products possibilities... Steve Wozniak wants to explore the possibilities of them, in a child like manner with eyes wide open looking for fun together with everyone. Unlike Steve Jobs that only looked to enrich himself, limit customers possibilities and try to chain them to the apple ecosystem.
But this story is also a good story about karma, you reap what you sow. I am no one to judge people, Steve Jobs included... so I don't want to say he reaped what he sow.
But the moral of the story is... do what is right, be nice to people... don't be selfish... and people will love you for it, just las much loved as Steve Wozniak is!
I could listen to this guy for hours. This is how an actually brilliant person thinks.
Great talk
I love this guy. People should kiss the ground beneath his feet!

The real brains behind Apple Computer..! Such a great Electronic Engineer.!! Long Live Steve.! UC Berkeley is a fantastic school. Lots of great minds.....
Incredible energy
Very inspirational
Woz was the real hero behind Apple's early success. The genius engineer who design, built, and programmed the computer hardware that put the Apple I & Apple II on our desks at home.
Yeah, the sales & marketing guy upstaged him at every turn and hogged the spotlight. But this is the big hearted genius that actually created something that Jobs could sell.
Me, I'm much more impressed with engineering than sales & marketing. Sure, you need someone to sell, sell, sell in order to generate the cashflow needed to build a brand. But without brilliant engineering you've got nothing to demonstrate at the next computer show.
Thanks Woz for the Apple II that jump started my lifelong computer career. Especially for insisting on all those beautiful expansion board slots. I used them all!
Woz is a gift from the heavens.
Awesome - and he is a spot on genius for sure.
