- A special celebration took place in Chamblee Thursday morning in honor of a beloved McDonald's employee.
October 27 not only marked Willie Calhoun's 73rd birthday, but also his 59th anniversary working at the fast-food chain.
"Mr. Willie," as his friends call him, started working at McDonald's when he was 14-years-old and has been at the Chamblee location on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard for more than two decades.
"I started off in Sandy Springs, to two more stores and ended up here," he said. "This is where I've been a very long time."
Thursday morning, a party was held at his longtime place of employment, where Mr. Willie was recognized for his hard work and loyalty.
"This is a special day for me," Mr. Willie told FOX 5. "It makes me feel great."
Mr. Willie said the best part about working at McDonald's is the wonderful people he works with.
"It's just been a great experience working here."
this man is the last of a dying breed. salute to him and the entire McDonald's staff. they looked so happy
Agreed. Way to go. That's dedication!
Look how healthy he is, and is he really 73 years old?
I mean grats to him but that's really depressing at the same time.
He seems happy and content. Maybe alot of people have more ambition but i guess a job is a job
Why?
Speak for yourself. Dude is happy.
The Goat of McDonald's
For as long as McDonald's has been around, it is shameful for anyone to admit that they work at McDonald's. This man has no such shame. He is humble and hard-working, and I am very sure he doesn't give a damn about all the negative comments here. If I were the store owner and his original employer from day one, on his actual retirement I would give that man one million dollars!
well ur not so shut up
Agreed, I use to be shamed by others who knew me that I worked in retail well not anymore. It's my life and as long as I'm happy than that is all that matters.
is he retiring like the title says because the voiceover says he will continue working there
legend!
Willy deserves the Laurels for a kind of Heroism seldom seen in todays world, Dedication, Humility, Service and Kindness...God Truly Bless you Mr. Willy.
Such a humble man. Happy Retirement good sir.
This is so amazing!! So happy for him!!
I just hope he receives medical benefits.
since 14? its too many opportunities in this world to be settled on that one job but hey he seems comfortable
I am torn on this story... Stock options back in the day? Not the shift manager? But, I am happy he has a job and isn't not on Tv about the wages, he probably carried little debt and doesn't want to be stressed out... I don't know. I feel I need to talk to this guy.
Yep would have been a millionaire had he invested in the stock of McD's instead.
A very good man.
Im 35 & i still work @ mcdonald's plus door dash on th side. You can work @ mcdonald's s long as you want util whatever age. Its a blessing just to have a job that pay the bills & keep food on the table regardless of where you work. Never let the world & outside opinions dictate your life.
He's been working there since before his boss was born. How is he not the boss?
Florida Fish Guy good question
Because of racism
Who cares?
He’s probably just happy in the position he was in, lots of people don’t like to take a big responsibility of being manager, it can really be stressing
Some employee's are comfortable were they are at and don't want to move up.
Y'all act like ppl have the same ambitions! He stayed there that long because he's loved it apparently! Some of y'all can't keep a job at all judging this man!
Your comment was straight off of one of those hood pages that glorifies working 40 hours a week at menial jobs...then talk about "gettin' money".
Nah, man...you gettin' fucked...strugglestyle.
Trilmonté how so? What? It's not valid? Don't you have worker bees? Does everyone want the same thing? Does everyone think alike?
@@Raphie009 yup I guarantee he has so many pairs of Jordans. Just another low iq idiot
Exactly. A hard working old school guy.
Oh my god… 60 years…… at McDonald’s, and, this man isn’t making more than the average starter McDonald’s teen, I 100 percent bet.
I think about this guy a lot.
I believe he should be the only McDonald's employee to say "we deserve 15 dollar minimum wage."
Cautionary tale...
Wow
💯💯💯✌️
i wonder if he even gets an pension...its unfortunately how badly these ppl are treated.
WOW MCD REALLY HOLD PEOPLE DOWN
That's sad.....have to work for this company for so many years and can't even give you retirement....or benefits.....That's sad
Not to bash another brother but we gotta do better... stuff like this makes me wonder what goes on in peoples heads.. How you gonna spend your entire life making another man rich without trying to do anything for yourself? Im sure he got raises here & there but he prolly maxed out at (if he was lucky) 13$ dollars decades ago.. my nigga DECADES... imagine being at mcdonalds for 10 long years.. then another 10 years, then another 10.. shit is inexcusable bro. Everybody has situations they go through but this is bullshit. Bro didnt want to be anything but a number smh
Not everyone is meant to be someone great. If he was satisfied/happy working there for 50+ years, then he lived a good life.
Most people 60+ now grew up with different aspirations in life. With marriages, jobs, life in general, they just wanted to be content. Obviously he was able to have that life working at McDonald's, so good for him.
U know they aint give him shit they aint give no fucks about this dude which is the worst part.. im not saying everyone has to be great, but how happy can u be flipping patties for 60 years? Gotta be something else you wanted outta life smh..
Yeah it’s depressing just thinking about it.
So, Opie and Anthony didn't fired him
Employers often don't promote their best workers because they don't have people to fill their place.. Makes you wonder how many people used this man as a stepping stone to get promoted without putting in a good word for him.
59 years and you're not at least a manager? Mr Willie is a damn fool!
You would be surprised alot of people dont want the responsiblity of being manager, and are happy where there at.
Here is one of the cases.
It's no excuse for a lack of ambition.
I suspect he may be illiterate. That would explain a lot.
I get not wanting the responsibility that comes with management. I'm one of those people. However, I'd pick a career in something like coast to coast truck-driving....something that nets $50K+ a year.
I don't doubt for a second that this man has consistently made minimum wage his whole life. And that's...fuck, man. That's terrible.
@@PharoahsKingdom Lack of ambition? To you maybe your work is your life and the only way you can find to show ambition.
Wow good for him, I wonder how he lives his life knowing he potentially could've done something that paid more? But as long as he's happy than that is all that matters.
smh, How is this even celebratory?
Fam, this is sad....
This man obviously has some disability. respect him that he managed to work that long people are so fucked up
Oh wow LOLOLOLOLOL you are too funny
littlebabyblue how wtf?? I'm dead ass
Léonard is a DOPE!
Or you're a lazy pos.
No disrespect to this man good for him and I really mean that but I can never see myself working that long at McDonald’s. I worked there for almost 8 years and couldn’t stand it and felt trapped. I had to get out and I did. There are way more better jobs out there I don’t see why people would spend their whole life working minimum wage.
I rather do prison time trying to get a bag than to work my entire life at McDonald's
yeah because you’re going to make more money being in prison than working at mcdonald’s… at least this man has his freedom and a steady paycheck
So you rather look over your shoulder every day wondering if your number will be called and the cops come and get you ir a rival takes you out? Peace of mind is also a valuable thing.
@@ariefraiser140 that's better than working at McDonald's for 50 years barely making it to payday
For the next 50 years
@@dontknow6465 Going to prison is better than working for McDonald's? You've never been to prison.
Very sad. This is not something to celebrate. 59 years. He should have owned a franchise at this point. Very disappointing.
He probably a little bit slow, but I still think McDonalds should take care of anybody that work a job like that for that long I guarantee they won’t find another person like Mr. Willy ever again LAST OF A DYING BREED!!!
LMFAO.
Where is Shift Leader Nav at?
This is a perfect example of what not to do
What's his I.Q.? 🤔
Sad McDonald's won't do a damn thing for him.
he couldve done better but bc of racism look where he ended up 🤬
Either he didn't want to be the general manager or he just was not good enough worker to get the promotion ? ? Wtf if I stayed somewhere at least a year and not being a manager I would of found another job... 59 year's 59 ????? 😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕
