Here are 4 examples of famous Aida’s of the 1950s and 1960s!! Only Callas was almost Perfect with Zinka coming to second favorite!! Gencer and Tebaldi were horrible!!!
Holy shit zinka is spectacular here! I've never been terribly drawn to her voice for reasons I cannot explain - perhaps because mister opera liked her so much - but she is truly magnificent.
I really understand and agree with what you say about Milanov. I've never really cared much for her voice either. BUT, that being said I fully acknowledge she was an amazing artist, singer and musician! For me, I have to concede that it is ONLY a matter of personal preference for me, that I'm not really drawn much to her voice, and NOT because of ANY bad singing! (I would still much rather listen to Milanov than either Telbadi or Gencer at any time, as theirs was just poor singing so much of the time, and grossly over-rated. Milano was a truly great singer, that I'm just not partial to, so it's my own loss!)
Correct, she recorded it a little later with von Karajan, a recording she and Simionato hated because they said that in order to get the perfect orchestra sound, he made the repeat certain passages again and again, the last take was orchestrally perfect but vocally a mess, they were exhausted. With all his fame, he knew nothing about voices, Ricciarelli was ruined by him.
I don't care what you say...Gencer and Tebaldi is one of the greatest sopranos in the history of opera since I've seen their performances. Her stage presence were Stupendous. You are rude...judging one person by a very small documents of their whole career...like newspaper has done to Callas in 1958 Rome Norma. Btw Did you know her mother had passed away while she was preparing this performance?. Performances in Verona in 1966 were emotionally very tough for Gencer. Her mother was very ill and her brother called her to come to İstanbul. She couldn't as she could only get a day off for deaths. Her mother died during this period and she flew to İstanbul for her funeral. During the funeral her brother came and said "Stop with your crocodile tears. You were not here when mother needed you most." They didn't speak for years and after only one day Gencer flew back to Verona and dedicated her Aida to her late mother. MIND YOUR MANNERS.
Callas in the Mexico performances of Aida was legendary! Not only was she at the zenith of her vocal powers but the cast was also INCREDIBLE ! I consider it to be the best all around casting that could keep up the prime Callas voice.
You are in the wrong place. Only Callas is worshipped here. No one else exists, and no one sang or acted before her, and certainly not at the same time.
@@gb9971 *You are alone in your most laughable hatred and despise of Callas. Who said we do not appreciate other soprano opera singers? Your mindset is the bane of opera, and of any art.*
Leontyne Price is the best Aida!!! her pianissimo and bel canto as well as the messa di voce technique!!! is simply mega mega unique and inimitable!! The best singer of times!ö is for me Leotnyne Price as Aida… only Price❤❤❤❤
@@veganonly absolutely not. Callas 1951 aida with del monaco is the best aida ever. Price had underdeveloped chest voice and bad/weak low notes, woofy head voice and she overdarkened. But she was surprisingly good in this role but certainly NOT THE BEST. Callas, Milanov are much better aidas
Son grabaciones capciosas, Renata Tebaldi canto más de un centenar de veces Aida y no siempre tuvo la dificultad en el DO sobre agudo, como aquí se grafica. @@OperaMyWorld I just wanted make it clear it was after her prime, before she was a force her aida to me I like better her notes were much fuller when she first took on the role, and you cannot deny she had phenomenal dynamic control, this still about performances before the 60s.
@@OperaMyWorld I also think Gencer had a huge problem with her head-voice as it was very think just so under developed similar to Price but slightly less lacking.
u dare call Tebaldi a false Aida? what if she didn't have the C6 0:31, what if she couldn't sing any high note at all, she had a beautiful voice within the two notes she could sing off pitch :D and it was a miracle, she sang Aida with two notes! :D (and wow I didn't know Milanov could sing SO well)… and u DARE call Callas the top Aida? that UGLY HORRIBLE VOICE with no top, no low, no middle that was cracking all notes all the time?
@@OperaMyWorld U Callas maniacs make me wanna puke! puke! puke! she had no technique, she was a bad actress, she had an ugly voice with a wobble and she was singing constantly off pitch... she couldnt hold a candle before the Ultimate Diva Assoluta Sfogato Pyrotechnico Acuto Chiaroscuro Bacon Mushroom Melt di Peto: Tsoutsa Moutsa de la Poutsa who lived in the early 10s and was singing for 80 years even for two years AFTER she died in full vocal prime!!!! You can see why Gencer was the "queen of the pirates" but never recorded anything, erratic singing and those little throaty sounds, I was never a fan. Callas had some amazing moments in her early years with Aida, no doubt, by the time she recorded it was past her prime. If I remember correctly her Aida from Rome, only the third act exists, has a fabulous high C and the London one is good too. Totally agree!
In fairness to Tebaldi, she knew Aida was now past her after this Paris performance and she never tackled the role again.

You speak the truth! Both Gencer and Tebaldi had better nights, and Milanov had her share of misses.

Ofcourse the best live Aida is also mexican, but of 51. DelMonaco and Dominguez along with Taddei make it the ultimate cast 🥰
Milanov is just sensational, but Callas.. well.. in a class alone...!
Milanov and Ponselle the best in this aria with Callas. Nothing tops it
Viva DIVINAAAAAAAA!!!!
My Dad would say after Our Maya,🌹 Caballe & Milanov were absolutely stellar. Great post my friend. Arnold Bourbon Amaral 🌍🌏🌎 OPERA WITHOUT BOUNDARIES
También hubieras incluido a Nilsson. Hermosos pianissimos viniendo de una voz tamaño ballena.
Milanov...MILANOV ...The best !
Maria Callas, The Number One.
Tebaldi is still one of the greatest Aidas you just chose a bad clip
Unfortunately she was not one of the greatest! After her prime ofcourse!

@@OperaMyWorld but weirdly she she very full notes when she went above High C
Gencer actually sounds amateurish here. She was born with an incredibly natural voice and seemingly did everything to ensure it never worked properly.
Ummmm Leontyne Price!!!! Why is she not included? I mean Zinka is nice and all but no one comes close to Price’s high c in this aria!
Все равно, она дива❤
This is a very chellanging high C for sopranos. Tebaldi was always flat in this phrase.
tebaldi isn't flat in this o patria mia high C attempt : czcams.com/video/ftJXia1-9Rk/video.html&start=5478
Milanov sounds really good, I’m shocked. Callas is forever the queen, but there’s some part of tebaldi’s aida that I like.
I am surprised you would admit it, but how brave of you to show your shortcomings. Are you also fat? Even when Callas was heavy, she was never fat
where's Boninsegna?
Вы забыли про Caterina Mancini
In my opinion, you are right! Aida is not for a lyric soprano like Tebaldi or Gencer.
Tebaldi was not a lyric soprano, she was a spinto, Leontyne price was a lyric
The wonders of falsetto development
For me, Milanov is supreme but Callas wonderful too. Much as I adore Tebaldi her top Cs were shaky.
