MK II is my favorite all time arcade machine, Sinistar was my second. Many a quarter was spent on MK II and here's a TIP when performing a "fatality" for most characters and moves, hold the block button eg. 'block' D,D,U,U,HP for Scorpion etc. Thank you John for this final well anticipated final video! I'm jealous of an actual MK II machine but I have my MAME cabinet that I play MK II on. Thanks again!

My respect, you did a great job and that arcade really looked good, but I beg you on your knees that you try to get the Killer Instinct arcade! It would be the coolest thing in the world to see how you restore what for me is one of the most iconic arcades of the fighting games of the 90s, thank you very much for sharing this passion for the arcade friend! hugs!

Put it on 2 players and put something on the block button on the second player and practice the special moves. And practice them from both sides. Helps with gameplay and will help to see what stick you like better.

After being sick for the last week, I managed to finish off watching this build today. Thanks so much for posting them, John. I really enjoyed watching this from start to finish. I completely agree with you on the difficulty of these games. I have the same issue with my MK4 cab. I completely suck at the game, and I thought to myself "let's turn the difficulty down until I get better at the game".....once in the menu I realized the game was already on "VERY EASY"....hahaha

Congrats, it looks incredible, and congrats on figuring out how to do it all. Havnt played this since the snes days either but scorpion was my character, the main moves for him are the grapling hook and teleport. Think they were hold away then forward hard punch and down to away hard punch. he's nasty when played well, raiden is too.

I found your channel when I bought my MKII cabinet summer of last year. I’ve been debating laminate or not. You’ve made up my mind. MK II was the largest arcade event in my life. I remember the crowds being so large the arcade had to add a second monitor on top just so we could spectate while waiting our turn.

The first stage, the enemy keeps doing the Low Punch while crouching so you can get a free uppercut to beat him in both rounds. By time you get to second stage, the enemy is performing a throw on you while you're crouching.
got delayed watching this but I'm finally getting around to it... right off I was watching the intro and I kept thinking that popcorn machine was gonna fall off again, lol (looks like it already did?! must have been a video I missed, haha!)
I don't think I've watched all of the videos in this series, but I'm happy to see the finale the game being done, fully restored and playable.... that's gonna be pretty bad ass I always loved MKII more than the other games, I had it on SNES back in the day too! The game store clerk even gave me a xerox print-out that listed all the moves/fatalities so my brothers and I could get a leg up on learning how to play, so MKII definitely has a lot of great memories for me!
I do also remember hearing about the ED BOON Menu thing, kinda neat finding easter eggs 25+ years after the game's original release (and I even tried it on the PS2 version of the midway collection, it still works on that version!!)

I have always loved the side art on MK2. Eric is really good at this game. I actually saw him beat his cousin blindfolded. It was hilarious.

If you try a Pandoras box in the mortal combat cabinet, just be aware that its wired a little differently.
Pin 27 on the edge connector is button 6 for the Pandoras box, and on the standard pinout 27 is a ground.

Theres a little hack you can do with the EJB menu to get into the regular test menu. Run the CPU Board test, when its finished it exits to the regular test menu. You can change the difficulty, turn the arcade to free play (If its not set by dip switch) and really cause problems for arcade operators lol.

yeah, this is happening to everyone for some reason. UGH.
Subscription feed kinda stopped working for a while ago now. Mine seems to work fine, but I don't have lots of subscriptions. It's suggested that you press the bell button to make youtube note that you want to be notified (I never do), but I've heard that also doesn't work sometimes. Some channels are recurring to mailing lists to keep their subscribers notified.
It worked this time for me last month didn't however

Hey John it's me again Raheim Hawkins I checked out your video of you completing your Mortal Kombat arcade console great job fixing it I know it took you over 2 years to fix that and I know you probably never expected that it was going to take so long for it to be completed but I'm happy that you got it done I saw you beating Baraka nice job but like you said you need to practice more on how to play it the only way to get used to the game all you have to do is let the character come towards you and keep doing low kick that would take you to the game a little further a little bit but if you like to do a fatality I give you one if you want to do the dragon with Liu kang its down forward back back x again down forward back back X and I seen that you printed out all the moves on the game that way you'll know what is what and stuff but again if you want to do Liu kang the dragon fatality it's down forward back back x I was still love to see you do a little more video of you playing that that way you will get used to it for a while

If you use the code on an MK3 there is a two player Galaga style game in the hidden menu. Fun but difficult. Near as I can tell its only one level as well.
It can be unlocked on VS screen and also beating the game by selecting the second icon.
Yea you're to busy trying to remember moves and do those certain moves. You should just be hitting buttons to punch and kick and throw a few combos at first and you will eventually start to remember the special moves. You're probably really good at the game by now. Great job on the restore it looks great
am I nuts, liking to replace monitors with lcd ones. I like the maintenance free way. plus the weight savings I literally dislocated my fingers dragging a cruisin usa into my house. I didnt change that monitor cause it works but every other cab I've found the monitors were not working
John next time laminate would work but high build primer sand it and it will be smooth. Just did it on a mortal kombat dimension, 2 player fight stick and high build made it look as smooth as a automotive finish. I painted it then vinyl wrapped it and its hooked to a retropi running neo geo mvs roms. Also helps I've worked in automotive restoration for a decade or more....
What brand high build primer?
I know it was a lot of work but it came out great! That would be fun to me someday I want to mod an actual arcade and restore it I’m a retro console modder/pcb maker but have been getting into arcade stuff I’m 3/4 done with an arcade1up mod with computer real buttons and sticks real coin door etc

I don´t know what I expected when you started to play this game, but after watching 15 seconds I+m sure you´ve already swapped or sold this game :D Hope you´re still taking that TMNT arcade project. That´s the only arcade I kept and sold 9 games away. Bought more pinballs... Yeah I kinda love more that stuff now...
John, I tried to read through most of the comments so not sure if anyone mentioned, but you will have an easier time if you move to the right side of the machine and play the game as player 2. It sounds crazy, but you will get through the enemies much easier when you play on the right side of the machine.
It is still tough, but I am a pretty good player and even I have problems playing from the left side of the cabinet! For some reason it is not as difficult and it has nothing to do with which side your character is facing. The computer is simply not as relentless when you play from the right side of the cabinet. Try it!
Also, it's all about learning the patterns. You simply have to get use to the AI. It's very difficult to defeat the opponents otherwise.
I hope you make some popcorn with that thing in the end of year video :)

I dont know if you still have this game. But you should know this. When you play on the left side, the game is harder as it progresses. The reason for this is, on controller 1 or left side. You will notice that once you beat the first 3 characters. From the following battle and so on.,,, the computer will jump towards you when you jump back. When you jump towards them. They most likely jump faster towards You and counter your jump with a kick. Or jump straight up and stop your jump. Play on the right side and you will notice that is easier. This applies to console versions. The only way i beat the game on the left side is walking forward and then jump back. It causes a delay on the enemy to jump towards you. So what you do is to walk a bir closer before they jump towards you. Once you have the right spacing,, you counter their jump with a hi left kick. Kicking them away,,, acrossed the screen. Just repeat the process. With sub zero or Kun lao, is easy to do. Their hi kick is long and open

In attract mode the game loops different images or clips. Could it be that you need to put the code from start to finish on one image or clip, before it cycles to the next?
This project took forever, but it turned out great! Hopefully any future projects will go smoother!

I love mortal kombat 2 but my favourite version is mortal kombat 2 unlimited. Its a hack that adds all unplayable characters to the roster. Feels like a more complete game than the arcade original.

I have an old cocktail crazy climber game that I believe needs a new power supply due to pixelation on the screen, but I can't seem to find an old power supply for it. Would I be able to switch it out for one of the newer switching power supplies, and if so how would I do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
