"Taking place from February 17, 1915, until January 9, 1916, the Battle of Gallipoli was a long and controversial attempt to reach and occupy Constantinople (now known as Istanbul) during the First World War. The campaign resulted in 213,000 casualties and cost 44,000 allied troops their lives."

    Lyrics:
    [Verse 1]
Hear them whisper, voices from the other side
    Hear them calling
Former foes now friends are resting side by side
They will never leave our hearts or fade away
    Live forever
They were far to young to die in such a way
    [Pre-Chorus 1]
How many wasted lives? How many dreams did fade away?
Broken promises, they won't be coming home
Oh mothers wipe your tears, your sons will rest a million years
Found their peace at last as foe turned to friend and forgive
And they knew they would die
    [Chorus]
    Gallipoli
Left their letters in the sand
    Such waste of life, Gallipoli
Dreams of freedom turned to dust
    [Verse 2]
Hell is waiting where the ocean meets the sand
    Cliffs of burden
Where the soldiers rushed into a certain death
At the shoreline, blood of heroes stains the land
    Light a candle
One for each of them who fought and died in vain
    [Pre-Chorus 2]
There is no enemy, there is no victory
Only boys who lost their lives in the sand
Young men were sacrificed, their names are carved in stone and kept alive
And forever we will honor the memory of them
And they knew they would die
    [Chorus]
    Gallipoli
Left their letters in the sand
    Such waste of life, Gallipoli
Dreams of freedom turned to dust
    [Guitar Solo]
    [Pre-Chorus 3]
How many wasted lives? How many dreams did fade away?
Broken promises, they won't be coming home
Oh mothers wipe your tears, your sons will rest a million years
Found their peace at last as foe turned to friend and forgive
And they knew they would die
    [Chorus]
    Gallipoli
Left their letters in the sand
    Such waste of life, Gallipoli
Dreams of freedom turned to dust

I love the touch of flashing the pictures of the real soldiers from 3:18 onwards, my own great-grandfather was one of the men who landed at Sulva Bay with the Royal Munsters.

my great grandfather joined the french army back in the opening days of the war and when the US formally got involved he left the french army and joined the US military, keep in mind this was rural KY and before the germans even started targeting shipping at all let alone American vessels.

Wow. So here's the thing, I don't dislike the song Gallipoli. Quite the opposite actually. But it has never really hit as hard as many other Sabaton songs. Until now. Your excellent editing together with the subtitles hammered down the absolute tragedy and devastation of this historical event.
    Thank you for making this.
    Masterfully executed. 👏

The tragedy of Gallipoli does thankfully have a bloodless end.
The entire Entente force in the peninsula was withdrawn back to the beaches and away under cover of night, and the Turks didn’t realise it.
