Nam Tchun-mo
Born in Yungyang, Korea in 1961, Nam Tchun-Mo obtained an MFA from the School of Fine Arts, Keimyung University, Daegu, Korea and now lives and works in both Daegu and Cologne, Germany.
Through repetition of simple lines and by mixing oriental natural colors, Nam Tchun-Mo creates works beyond the boundaries of sculpture and painting. The dynamic and rhythmic lines that he builds on the surface of the canvas create harmony between light and shadow. His paintings are sculptural works, where the lines have infinite space.
He constantly plays with color and light, which are the key ingredients of his art. In this process, he exploits the resources of the chromatic spectrum to their fullest extent, while not neglecting the subtle modulations of black and white.
Nam Chun-Mo is a leading exponent of the new generation of the Korean monochrome movement “Dansaekhwa”. Recently, he received the highest award possible from the Ha Chong-hyun Foundation, recognizing him as a great master of the Dansaekhwa movement.
