Jester in darkest dungeon is so dumb. "Hey man, this fleshy wall just kinda told me dark truths, imma bout to lose it." Jester: *huh...well here's wonderwall*
To be honest, the developers at Red Hook have explicitly stated that stress isn't meant to be insanity. It's meant to be just that...stress. Mounting fears and frustrations, not just from being confronted with eldritch truths, but from common obstacles - being told to press on when your stomach is growling, getting jumpscared by a misfiring cannon, seeing your steadfast companions take a blow in a vital spot or nearly killed, or just searching a long corridor, dreading if you're going to get jumped by monsters or set foot on a trap. The Jester is just relieving the tension - getting the party members to smile at a jaunty tune, or laugh at a horrible pun that contrasts so brightly with the constant gloom and doom of the dungeons. Sometimes, the best cure for existential dread is just somebody reminding you that even if life is just some cosmic joke, we're only seeing the setup - so the punchline is going to be a doozy!

I wish you good luck on your writing! In what manner did this video help you developing the character, if it's alright to ask? I'm curious, but I understand if you prefer to keep it secret.
@@jurtheorc8117 Well it's a fantasy story and the clown was gonna use some exaggerated Slapstick, think Jim Carrey's The Mask (not the comic version) in her combat, but the history of clowning being far more vast than I realized I realized she could be more than just a living toon. Plus I want her to be a friendly clown and some Slapstick can translate poorly into other settings.
@@369destroyer My apologies for the late reply, and thank you for having taken the time to describe it. I actually mainly knew the movie version of The Mask, but from your clarification i remember a panel of it I once saw. When comparing that, the movie is definitely more... friendly, so to speak, compared to the comics. As in, eyeballs popping out of a socket in real life is a lot more nasty than for a cartoon. How do you mean that some slapstick can translate poorly, if i might ask? Is it something along the lines of differences in culture that you are afraid of? And yeah, there's quite a bit to clowning! I myself have not looked into clown stuff as a whole though, but mainly looked into European jesters as well as the Pueblo Clowns mentioned in the video. Those especially I find fascinating, as their role was also somewhat religious for the Pueblo peoples like the Hopi. It's very interesting, both to learn about as well as use for inspiration or integration for stories of one's own.

Thank you Oscar for that interesting tidbit on Carnival in France. I’m from Louisiana so we celebrate Mardi Gras before Lent but that’s probably where we got our holiday and celebration from since our earliest ancestors can be traced all the way from France and how Louisiana was once a French territory. You learn something new everyday and I hope you had a good April Fools Day.
@@comicfoil9494 They're not and it's hard to say if there was any influence if it all for Mardi Gras because there are several other places besides Louisiana where Mardi Gras is celebrated. Rubella and Tristis reminded me of how I’ve always wanted a magician job in an RPG with an FF job system. Seeing as my inspiration from this was Trixie from MLP, though, my concept is very different from what Child of Light did. Essentially, I see a Magician job as a debuff class. Sure, its stats might be suited to some magic if you pair it with the abilities of an actual mage job, but its own abilities wouldn’t be magic based. Instead, you use the tricks of the trade, a stage magician’s smoke and mirrors, to screw with the enemies and cause status effects. The first example that comes to my mind is using smoke bombs to blind enemies or run away.
Cicero from Skyrim would've made a great addition to this list. He's a crazy killer jester who does what he loves and loves what he does, that being murder. He's fiercely loyal to the Night Mother and whoever she chooses as Listener of the Dark Brotherhood. If you get him as a follower he's always excited when you come vack to the sanctuary eager to get out there and slit throats which he'd do with gusto. You actually can help him in a side quest before you get to the sanctuary and if you do he recognizes you. If instead you get him arrested he doesn't hold it against you too much
When I first saw the intro for number 9, my first thought was Blacephalon from Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon. Although, admittedly, your actual #9 entry also makes sense.

Nights 1:Befriend 2 human kids, gain positive energy from their dreams, defeat the big bad who made me. Nights Sequel:Befriend 2 human kids, gain positive energy from their dreams, defeat the big bad who made me. Me:that's literally the same exact game but with a different name, Sega what drugs were you on when deciding that?
I was hoping a certain spellcaster from Tales of Berseria would appear on this list, but technically she counts more as a witch than a clown.
I had the exact same thought.
But yeah the character calls herself a witch multiple times.
Never have I seen a list about gaming clowns that genuinely made me smile...and laugh. Best performance yet, Oscar.
Also...the armory is unlocked.
Finally, someone who understands that detective pikachu’s mr mime is creepy as shit
Was that ever in contention? He freaked me out.
Felt pretty cathartic when Tim played Mr. Mime's game and played bad cop on that Pokèmon, nothing says threatening interrogation like invisible gasoline and matches
I'm glad Nights got some attention after so many years. I love Nights so much and it's insanely overlooked, even for SEGA games. Not many people know of it's existence. I like it's design and character.
Now to make this complete is to have a top ten for evil clowns for Halloween
Calling it, either Sweet tooth, injustice joker, or Kefka will be number one
I’m so happy about the number one spot, I love that guy! Thanks for the amazing video!
I wasn’t feeling good today, but I saw this and it cheered me up
Historical Lessons about Clowns with Video Game characters thrown in. This is what I subscribe for! Jolly Good Show~
10. I never played Dark legacy soo Jesters are my type of clowns
9. I do like Mr.rime is the Mr.Mime version of Charlie chaplin
8. OMG i love Child of light and Rubella is a great support, and while i don't use Tristis as offen he unstopable spell is awesome
7. While i never played DK64 i can see the Clown aspect on this Kong
6. That face cought me off guard but i like how well animated expression and the nice clown wants to give people a hug
5. I'm still scared to play this but at least it's good to hear that he can alleviate the stress
4. It's fun to hear about the mexican equivalent of clowns and jesters. I love to see him become a friend of Juan.
3. It's a rare sight of a clown and jesters in fighting games
2. Still want journey of dream HD port and a third nights game becuese i like Night's into dream's.
1. Damn it's like we find a good guy version of Kefka
very much appreciate you bringing some light to the underrated gem that is child of light. Rubella was basically always on my party when battles hit cause she was just so useful in every situation.
I'm sure we all know by now about Aurora's DLC appearance in "Bloodstained."
OK, now I really want to see a picture of some, most, or all of these clowns squaring off against the corrupted clowns of gaming
Say What Now???
Thank you for the excellent section on NiGHTS. Very few folk give them justice and know the background well enough to talk about the themes and stuff.
Great top choices. Still need to finish DQ11 but Sylvando is easily my favourite character in that game. He has so much style. NiGHTs is a great choice too & I love their design. Love the European cover artwork of NiGHTs into Dreams.
Who else, other than myself, would like to see a movie, game, cartoon, comic book, or any other form of media where a heroic clown protagonist does battle against a group of villainous coulrophobia-inducing clowns that parody such popular evil clown figures such as the Joker or Pennywise?
I'm Making A Comic Book Superhero Clown Who Fights Bad Guys (Including Evil Clowns).
I was looking forward to the Clown-Trivia that was to be expected from this video, and to top it off the List isn't about horrorclowns, but about the good kind of clown! I love it!
24:39 People were scared of Lola? How can you look at that smile and gesture and be scared of her? Just HOW????
Ok, I'ma admit, before I decided to watch this, I did check the video length just to be sure. Well this should be fun
And this is why you are my favorite countdown commuty person. You make actual content om april fools day
*Sees the my favorite character as #1 and I jump for joy*
He the best clown/jester in video game history and I love him so much with all my heart and soul. He has the best character personality and you can never hate him cause how sweet and pure he is willing to help good people and making the whole world happy!🥰
By the way very nice fake out when you announced the number 1 spot
Finally a list about me.
Also happy April fool's and belated birthday.
Also I want more clowns.
I should try to play dragon quest
Don't We All?
The american fear of clowns I will never ever understand, tbh. Clowns have such a fun aesthetic to design with!
It also was a nice call trying to avoid villains for this one, I got to learn of clowns I never heard of before on this list!
Never realized how many clowns there are in gaming
Great countdown
I'm very afraid of clowns. But I'm only watching this because I'm curious of who's on the list.
Guess it’s time to clown around.
It’d be a jester of a time
It’d be unquinndefyable
...I’m out of Clown puns. Anyone got anyone else?
It was only a tatter of mime.
Quinndesesntial?
@@deucesommerfeld1248 Oh Deuce, don't be such a bozo :P
@@comicfoil9494 Now aren’t you the comedy buffoon?
Turn That Clown Upside Down.
Thanks for making legitimate content, Oscar! I can always count on you to make quality content on the day when everyone else just screws around.
Clown Man, Spring Man and Bounce Man: "Come on! At least make us number zero!"
Zero: "Ahem!"
Edgar Ektor: "Oh be quiet. I'm not on here either."
Thank you!!! You put Lola pop here!!!! She’s my favorite character!
Honestly, we could make murder-clowns its own separate list.
Edit: Welp, looks like a so-called "Clussy Fever" has struck the populous. So I guess I'm back here.
5:34 "Murder Clowns aren't bad as long as they kill right people"
There are too many jokes that comes from this, that I wouldn't voice out
“And they stop hogging all the HEALTH ITEMS!”
You’re absolutely right, Mardi Grad and Carnival are not ostensibly the same holiday.
@@comicfoil9494 They're not and it's hard to say if there was any influence if it all for Mardi Gras because there are several other places besides Louisiana where Mardi Gras is celebrated. I don't know where to be exact but it is interesting how both holidays were about celebrating as much as you could before the solemn part of the year which is Lent for us Christians.
huh, this is a fitting time to do this list.
34:45 Same here, Oscar. That's the same reason for why I want to make youtube videos: not for money or fame, I just want to make people smile. That's just how I am.
Yeah the Mr Mime in Detective Pikachu, I was first off put by its design but the comedy routine with it was probably one of the best moments in the entire film. It’s so fun to watch and gets a laugh out of me. So yeah, clown status is obtained there.
Got me going there with Kefka. But Sylvando's also a good contender.
Spoilers
Oooohohoho, Josh is gonna be SOOOO pissed Kefka’s not on here lel /J
*Sees that Jesters count*
*Notices a lack of Marx from Kirby"
I am now..... sad.
What he's helping you in Star Allies the whole evil thing is just when he's hungry!
Still not a clown I would trust.
@@comicfoil9494 What you mean a a creature that attacks via ripping itself in half in untrustworthy?.... but yeah I'm mostly joiking around before April Fools is up in my timezone.
Hey scorpion idk if you will ever see this but
Ive been watching your stuff for so long and it amazes me how creative your writing is. Im glad you are still doing this
This was a fun countdown. Definitely brought a smile to my facing hearing about the lore behind each characters.
You put my boy Sylvando at number 1. Applause all around
You have no idea how glad I am that you don’t do joke videos. Whenever I see channels post videos today I always have to hold my breath and hope for the best. Very glad Sylvando got number 1 he deserved it. Also on that note, um..... After weapons month, top 8 dragon quest 11 party members..... please?
Weapons Month! Let’s go! Great list and can’t wait to see what you got for Weapons Month V.
