  • We take a trip to one of my honey retailers and chat with the owner about demand for honey. Checkout the Bee Whisperer website at www.beewhisperer.us

Location means everything ....I have people complaining over our price of $16 for 3 lb quart jars !!
Thanks Peter for another great video.

Do you run out of honey each year? If so raise the price until you just run out prior to the next harvest.

@@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer I can't ever remember a time where we had this much honey left over this late in a year. Most years we are sold out by now and that was one reason for me lowering the price to what I did. That might not have been the best marketing strategy but I do understand people are struggling right now especially in my area. I love working with the bees and love watching them in the apiary but I would have to say the marketing side of beekeeping is my least favorite.

Great information. Especially the part about smaller containers making more money. I thought it was the opposite. I have 5 beehives and thinking about going up to 20. How many beehives should I have before reaching out to the retailers?

Depends upon supply and demand. Reach out when your likely production will keep them supplied all year. (my view)

Do you run into crystallization issues while you're sitting on the honey for the retail sales?

So if you sell @ $10 to $12 per lb retail by word of mouth, how much do you sell to retailers per pound? What percentage less than what you can sell yourself?

Peter when you are selling honey to a retailer how do you price it so that you and the retailer are getting a square deal?

Retailers may have their own markup policy but I work on the assumption of whatever my normal retail price is I sell to stores at about 60-65% of that price. They in turn usually sell at the same price I would sell retail.

Hello. Could you be interested in importing African pure honey?
