General John F. Kelly - Six seconds and then into eternity.

  • General Kelly spoke to the Gold Star Families of California in 2014 and told the story of two Marines bravery. He tells of how they stood their Post and did their jobs as Marines, and how they stopped the truck that the homicide bomber was driving before he could detonate the 2,000 pounds of explosives meant for the other Marines and Iraqi police who were sleeping in the barracks, close to where the bomb went off.
Jonathan Yale and Jordan Haerter had only six seconds to engage the driver. Not enough time to think of anything but how to stop the driver of the truck that was trying to get past them and destroy the barracks housing their fellow Marines and the Iraqi Police.
Please share General Kelly's speech about these brave men and their faithful duty to our nation, to each other and what the true meaning of what it means to serve and sacrifice. They gave their all and now the rest at peace, least we forget their bravery and that this nation has some of the best that stand in the ranks of our armed forces. They stand on the wall every night keeping their families and their fellow Americans safe from those who would destroy all that we are.

General Kelley has a certain way of speaking and carrying himself that makes you want to sit up and take notice of what he is about to say. He lets you know without words that it is going to be important and worth every second of your undivided attention and well deserved respect.
His poise is impressive considering the amount of pain he must have been going through personally and professionally. General Kelley wrote an impeccable speech to accompany the heroic actions of two Amazing American Marines. #USA #USMarines #SemperFidelis #GeneralKelley #SemperFi #AmericaTheGreat #BestCountryOnEarth #BlessedByTheBest #GODBlessAmerica #USMilitary #BrothersInArms #DieToProtectEachOther #DieToProtectOneAnother #BrotherAndSistersForLife #BrothersAndSistersInArmsForLife

I don't care what General Patton said, General Kelly made me begin to tear up at 4 mins. I could see what was coming. Unlike those two absolute heroes, I had time to think about their ultimate sacrifice. I wore a uniform and never reached a point where I had to follow a routine order to its literal end; and it was probably because some other young men or women in uniform, somewhere else, got that order and took that action for me. Given that General Kelly and his wife had just become Gold Star parents themselves, just before this speech is truly unimaginable.
I have no idea how he did that and kept it together. I also would not have wanted to be the one to have the duty to ask General Kelly to make that speech.
I've interviewed many WW2 and Korean veterans and to a man they all say the real heroes are their friends who didn't make it back. Only now do I understand that, 100 percent.
RIP to all those lost in battle; and lost to despair and suicide after the fact of battle; and for surviving. We truly must look after our young veterans. We ask the young to protect us.
Why, then, do we so often, ignore them when they hang up their uniforms?
General Kelly, thank you for your tribute and for your own family’s sacrifice. BH
