  • I break down Lego's new Lord of the Rings set: Rivendell. Analysis is from the perspective of a longtime Lord of the Rings nerd, and focuses on movie/book accuracy and set quality.
This is my first video, so if you appreciate it, let me know! (Do the CZcams things)
Edit: Yes, there is indeed a Sting included. We had no images of it at the time of making this video, so that's why I mention it. Sorry to be misleading, it was just a timing thing.

For someone's first video, the quality is really good! I love your editing and well thought-out points, you clearly know your details! As a LOTR fan, I'll tune into later videos.

I liked it, you have good insight. The set DOES come with sting, idk what you’re talking about, and I will say I think because gloin is gimlis dad it makes the beard a bit more acceptable. If they did it for random dwarves in the future then I’d be a bit like “oh what’s happening” or smth idk but I think getting that new piece in two colors is pretty sweet. Make more! I love these..

Glad you liked it! It definitely made my day brighter reading this. I realized the set had Sting after I recorded the video, so that was just a planning failure. And you're right, it's certainly great to get Gimli/Gloin's beard in multiple colors.

  • @andrews_lego_tanks_and_more

I completely agree with what you said about Gandalf's staff, I wish Lego would've updated that. While I like the built up one used in the game, as I actually use that for my Gandalf figure I don't see why they didn't make a single piece, duel molded staff part, I think it would've been so much better.

Very instructive and thorough analysis. Thanks a lot for sharing this with us!

The creators of the set stated the dwarf was not Gloin. It was a generic dwarf.

Great review thanks. I think the clear omission from the original Lord of the Rings range was Gondor. There's definitely the potential for a Minas Tirith Castle set with add ons (as with Helm's Deep) as well as rangers of Gondor and Osgiliath. We live in hope! :)

    • @BricksAndDice
      @BricksAndDice  Před rokem +2

Yes! I have a cool idea for a way Lego could make Minas Tirith in a price-efficient and wallet-friendly manner that I'm excited to talk about soon. The days of glory have returned!

Thanks for this video. I’d certainly be interested in seeing more similar content from you. In particular, the video on Lego’s business model which you alluded to near the end of this vid. Thanks again.

Great video! I was looking for a review from a fellow nerd and I’m glad I stumbled on yours. :)
Also, I agree about bilbo’s hair, it did seem a bit off, and I would have also liked it if they included more of the 12 dwarves that (I believe) came to Rivendell

If we get a mines of moria set in this scale I will have a legit stroke. Great video thanks for making it! I am a lotr nerd and it's great to explore this set from a fan prospective.
I'm hoping Lego releases packs based on the books, but I understand stuff based on the movies would probably sell better. Maybe we'll get a Rohan set!

There will always be a tendency to expect more from a source within a source that is the epitome of detail (thinking book to movie here) & what Lego can be capable of.
That said, you're right on all counts; it's the little things that can throw it off.
Please keep making content, you have a wonderful insight & we all can appreciate the knowledge/lore.
I hope you get the set & can accurately review it in the future.

Gandalf didn‘t have a staff with a crystal the entire movie, he lost his old stuff with the pipe inside when he was captured by saruman at orthanc, he gets the ,, crystal staff’‘ in rivendell and during the council of elrond the crystal is removed he puts it in later in Moria , so i think its pretty accurate:)

  • @iamnotawayscuteandfluffy8350

  • @Voynick

The triangular sword seems to be intentionally designed as Boromir's, it shares a lot of details with Boromir's sword from the movies - the crossguard, the overall shape (if it wasn't this wide). Its only problem is that it is indeed too wide and short which makes me think that it may have been a compromise to make the sword usable as a dagger in some other sets. But it definitely originated from Boromir's movie sword.
I agree with the remarks on Gandalf's staff. I tried a few versions in my old Lego LotR display over the years and lately settled on Antenna 4H - Flat Top + open stud + jewel (same design as the staff from Lion Knights' Castle set except for the colors) which feels superior to me. Not too long, not too big, but with enough details. I wish Lego would do something similar
Great video btw, this and the one about swords made you earn my sub, I wish you luck in your youtube career!

Great review in the context of the film and previous Lego sets. I personally would prefer to buy bigger display pieces as I don’t have space for little sets and army building. I heard Lego will make Barad dur based on sales of this set so fingers crossed. I’d like to see more sets for Minas Ithal, Minas Morgul, Edoras and Moria.

8:06 You’re completely right with regards to the staff! My 6yo daughter has just started to discover Tolkien’s world through the LOTR movies, immediately noticed the disappointing staff piece when we were watching your and other reviews of this lego set. We still bought it, though 😅

    Nice vid.
I agree on Gandalfs staff. It's bit plain.
Also there is new Sting in the set :)
Would be shame if not included.
Gloin's torso and some faces are bit off as well. Funny how they do manage to get some like exclusive prints and then just recycle others.
Hope they bring up more sets.

Hey there! Glad you liked it! I recorded this before the set reviews by the Lego Ambassador Network folks came out, so unfortunately the Sting detail was incorrect.
Now that you mention it, I totally agree about Gloin's torso... It's like he's just wearing a weird old wrinkly shirt.
      Appreciate you!

Lego LOTR is not fully back yet. Stop saying it is.
Even the designers of this set said that they would love to make new LOTR sets, but neither confirmed or denied it coming back.
Trust me I hope it comes back LEGO would miss out on a fortune if they didn't bring this theme back.

Legolas hair is never in front of his ears, let alone his body. The new hair is awful. Also the elf statues don't have elves ears or hair. Thought that was lame.
