  • Do chickens love baths. Well watch and see. Normally, bathing chickens in a water bath with soap and such isn't necessary. Chickens know instinctively how to bathe themselves as a preventable health measure. However, as you will see in this video, sometimes it is completely necessary. I am going to show you how and give you some great tips and information oh how to properly bathe your chicken.

      They do. They do not like to be "dirty" and they also enjoy being pampered!!

    a very erudite woman, thank you so much for this video; i recently bought a little sussex and gold laced wyandotte chick. I want to make them used to baths from an early age.
    As i cant have children of my own, they are my kids and i love them.

      Yes if you bathe early they become used to it and it is not such an unpleasant experience. I also play with their wings, feet, beaks, ect so that when I do inspections or have to deal with illness or injury they are used to it ! Enjoy your new babies

    I left my chickens alone bc of isolation for two weeks and was absolutely horrified to come back and find out they smell funny and have a visually displeasing arse. As a 16 yo, ive never given chickens a bath so thank you so much omg

    I have two HUGE chickens that have, I call them, dingle berries hanging off their back side. I am a new chicken mom and I never heard of giving a chicken a bath before, but I think that is what they need. Thanks for giving me the step by step on how todo that. Now I just need to know how to cut the feathers on the back side, so this don't keep happening.

    Hi my chickens are losing alot of feathers. What can i do

  • @high_fructose_corn_syrup

    Hellllp what kind of strong smelling soap can I use on my chickens? I have several broody hens who have been laying on broken eggs. They smell like spoiled eggs. Need to clean them and their nests.

    • @BloomwellHomeGarden
      @BloomwellHomeGarden  Před 3 lety +2

      Rather than a very strong soap, In.would wash them 2 times. You can use antibacterial additives like 2 drops of lavender oil per gallon of water. If the soap is too harsh it will strip their oil they need and that could lead to severe problems also. In addition to the essential oil you can also clean the nesting boxes very well using my five essential oil cleaner, look for that on the channel as well and also in the coop cleaning video. Then I put in fresh herbs of peppermint, lavender, lemon balm. Good luck!!

      @@BloomwellHomeGarden oh adding those herbs to the nesting box is a good idea!!! If i wash them in 90+ degree weather, would I still need to blow dry them? Id towel dry of course, but i have like 4 broody girls that smell, so any time i can save would be a help. And thank you very much for your fast reply!!!

    • @BloomwellHomeGarden

      You are welcome. In 90* weather towel drying will be adequate. Lightly touch the towel to their bodies, being careful not to rough up their feathers. In the heat a bath will feel incredible to them. Also, please make sure to change the water and rinse the bathtub in between girls!

      @@BloomwellHomeGarden oh absolutely, I plan on washing them in my utility sink in our basement so each will have very fresh/clean water. And their nest boxes, will be cleaned and disinfected. i plan on spraying bleach/water in their nest boxes but will lock them out of their coop while it fully dries. Then fresh wood chips when dry 😁 the only herb i have on hand is dried lavender, but I will add that also. Ive slacked collecting eggs as they get out so FAST when we open their door. They dug up my neighbors flower bed so they arent allowed free roam anymore, he loved when they would visit but since they got braver and attacked his flowers.. no more! 🥺 our fence doesnt keep them in no matter what we do to it. Cant fully fence it as it runs into a creek/brush they walk all the way around it.

    How many times we can wash a chicken please a month

    • @BloomwellHomeGarden
      @BloomwellHomeGarden  Před 2 lety

      In certain circumstances, I have bathed a chicken daily, if they had an issues with a parasite, or injury. Otherwise, only if they are very dirty. It is best not to bathe them too often. And if I have to bathe in winter, they syay in the house until spring.
