Used the regular plug for 5 years with zero issue. No miss fires at all, and very good accuracy. Also use the W209 shotshell primers from Winchester with zero issue. CVA optima v2
I’ve never had a problem running the regular breech plug with Blackhorn. Ive fired hundreds of shots with zero ignition failures. Now I’m seeing all this info to get you to buy another plug for $30+ dollars. Sounds like a sales gimmick to me. Use the correct primers and it will ignite every time with the breech plug that comes with your gun.
My TC x-7 omega has never failed to ignite Bl209 in 10 years with original breechplug . That being said I just purchased a CVA v2 muzzleload pistol and ordered a blackhorn 209 breechplug because I can see better ignition by the plugs design . I also use Fiochi shotshell primers
Based on the MSD sheet from the company, BH209 is 80% nitrocellulose. Therefore, it needs more pressure to burn properly when compared to black powder. A heavier bullet and a tighter sabot might also help eliminate hang-fires with BH209, because you are more likely to get a higher pressure.
Little annoying that I had to pony up an extra $30 for this. And the biggest question is why do they even make the non blackhorn 209 breechplug anymore?
@@Yettiattack Really, I never used pellets. I went from pyrodex to 777 to blackhorn. But to be fair, when I started pellets hadn't come out yet. And when they did, I couldn't understand the point. Still can't. I mean a speed loader is not exactly hard. Plus it's not an option with blackhorn anyway.
@@Clearanceman2 i only started with them cause thats all that was available. It is pretty easy to do as a newb. In washington we cannot use optics so with two pyro pellers im happy with iron sight groups of around 2” at 50 yards im sure i could really refine with a scope an better powder. I opted for the triple seven just due to price an availability. 8 ounces of blackhorn was around $70 i bought 2 lbs for roughly the same price. I dont mind a little cleaning.
I went from rs to rs select,to pyrodex pellets, then triple 7,finally bh209,and now I’m going back to t7 magnum pellets..bc I’m shooting an old CVA optima pro that doesn’t have a bh209 Breech plug..and it is just like He says..inconsistent ignition and misfires
With standard breech plug or blackhorn 209 breech plug. I had no issues with CC209M primers and 209 breech plug and blackhorn. Didn't try the standard breech plug
I use a standard optima 50 caliber with the factory breach plug with my homemade black powder no problems I have took many deer with this sounds like to me that black horn aint as good as they think
that last one didn't sound right, is the end of the breech plug soft metal so it will form to the barrel, the breech plugs just go in finger tight right ??????????
You are correct for the most part. When you purchase a new breech plug for a CVA, the first time that you install it you must use the wrench that is included to seat it, then use the wrench to remove the breech plug. This process conforms the metal at the end of the breech plug to the breech of the muzzleloader. After this process, you can install and remove the breech plug by hand.
I have an older cva muzzle loader that doesn’t have the quick release breech plug. Is there a black horn breech plug available that screws in with a wrench?
I have developed a new cartridge for muzzleloading rifles which is loaded from the muzzle but ejects itself from the barrel after use and is non-corrosive. This product sets a new standard in safety and reliability for muzzleloader ammunition in the same way shotgun shells are standardized for use in shotguns. Shotshells have a load of shot and powder which produce a safe pressure in shotguns manufactured by many different companies. The pressure produced by this cartridge can be designed to work safely in the muzzleloaders produced by the various manufacturers. It would also greatly help new muzzleloader shooters with safety, and it would also give them a product which will not destroy the barrel of their muzzleloader due to corrosive residue. Those who say smokeless powder cannot be used in a muzzleloader may not know “Blackhorn 209” is 83% smokeless powder, based on the MSD sheet for the product. Therefore, the claim that smokeless powder cannot be used safely in a muzzleloader falls apart very quickly. (blackhorn209.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/2022-Blackhorn-209-SDS.pdf) I am now looking for a company willing to mass produce this new cartridge for the market. I would greatly appreciate it if you would pass this information along to those you know who may be interested in this new product. A link is found below which demonstrates this new product. Exactly. I’ve shot hundreds of loads without switching the plug and it shoots just fine.

Because most new shooters use pellets.

I still get delayed ignition using Blackhorn Brrech Plug in my CVA Optima v2, what am I doing wrong?
I wonder if they have one for the older cva optima pro magnum
Do they make a Breech plug for Thompson centers triumph muzzleloader?
To the best of my knowledge, the standard T/C breech plugs will work with Blackhorn so there is no need for an upgrade.

The directions on the package say nothing about using the wrench to seat the breech plug. It just says to get it finger tight.
If im shooting goex fff do I need the blackhorn 209 breechplug?

Can you use the variflame with the 209 breach plug
Is cva the only black powder gun that needs to use a special breech plug to use Blackhorn powder. Just wondering.
I have a few pounds of triple seven ffg. Should i buy the blackhorn breech? Or use the standard?
The standard breech plug should work with that setup.
I have an older cva muzzle loader that doesn’t have the quick release breech plug. Is there a black horn breech plug available that screws in with a wrench?
Can i mill out the hole in my old plug if the hole size is the only difference?
CVA does not recommend enlarging the flash hole of the standard QRBP breech plug.
do they make a blackhorn breach plug to fit a shadow muzzle
Can you use the blackhorn 209 breech plug in say a traditions g4 ultralight inline?
No, this breech plug is CVA specific. Traditions muzzleloaders do not require a different breech plug to perform with Blackhorn.
What about Pyrodex??
Can I use the variflame primer with the blackhorn powder or pellets for better ignition
Is there any options for using Blackhorn Powder in a CVA Apex?
