Hi Dan, You can't demonstrate how the speed changer works without having the motor running. If you have the motor running you 'll see the ratios of the pulleys in the center change as you move the lever forward and backward. The divider between the two belts on the center pulley moves on the shaft making the pulleys act as smaller or larger pulleys. Observe the belts on the center pulley as you move the pulley backward and forward.
