Question, from the schematics for johnson engines, that carb looks like the one off a 1975 6hp. I also have a 1968 I'm working on and the carb housing looks different on a 1968 (per the schematics), mine looks like the one on your video. I need to replace the low speed needle but I'm unsure which one to get and of course they use different needles.

Hi there I have a 6hp johnson just like the one in the video and it won't run when I take off the choke. I have cleaned it throughly and replaced the boss gasket as well as the low speed needle packing I noticed the top of the carburator has a small hole on the left that is open right next to the top hole that has been filled with a lead shot is that correct? it will continue to run if I spray starting fluid in it when I turn off the choke Soni know it's not pulling fuel. any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

thanks for making these videos, just a quick question. I have a 71 Johnson 6hp and new to working on them, but don't want to pay anyone.
my question is, my low speed needle seems to be very loose and has some side to side play. should I look at replacing the needle and seat? it doesn't idol worth anything and on a 14 ft boat last yr I could only get 6kph out of it
    thanks

If you tighten the the packing nut that surrounds the low speed/idle needle, it should resolve the loose turning low speed needle. If not, then the packing needs to be replaced.
      Good luck with your motor.

Can you tell me how to rewind the tension spring on the 68 Johnson. my pull cord broke the other day and I can't get tension back on the spindle. Thanks.

I have been meaning to make a video on that, but work and life have prevented me from doing so. I still have plans to make a video, but I posted some resource material and diagrams on how to do the starter repair. Please follow the link listed below.

Thank you, I actually figured it out. I pulled the starter assembly off and found that the spring clip had come out of its groove. After a few tries to get it back in I used a screw driver to hold the spring down and slipped it back in. I have tension again. Was worried the spring had broken which would have been about $75 to replace (new). Thanks for putting videos like this up, it really helps people like me who are unfamiliar with these motors.
