Rieden is a municipality in the Mayen-Koblenz district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Mendig collective municipality . The town, which is located in an old volcanic caldera, is also known as the stonemason's village . Rieden tuff , a volcanic tuff , is mined around the town . Rieden is also a Passion Play location.
The Rieden forest lake , located about 1 km southwest of Rieden, was inaugurated on August 29, 1982 after two years of construction. Initial plans date back to 1968 and were intended to be a first step towards the infrastructural development of the Rieden area for tourism. The artificial lake, which is about four hectares in size, is designed as a dam and is bordered by a dam in the southwest. A filter basin is placed in front of the lake. The lake meets the European standard for bathing water and is used as a bathing lake. There is also a boat rental service. The lake is adjacent to a holiday village, which was built in 2005.
