- Topic: Hypothetical Ophaur Domestication
If you're new to this channel, I suggest that you watch my "What is an ophaur?" video before asking any questions. Also watch my other videos in general because this probably isn't the best video due to problems with my phone.
The hunting and Guard Orphaur design look amazing they remind me of the alien dogs (Kubrows) from warframe with one being a guardian Dog (Sunika kubrow) and one being an hunter (Huras Kubrow)
This was a nice AU video. Interesting how Ophaur domestication would be in this timeline. Reminds me of tiger breeding for American private zoos, as well as the experiment of domesticating foxes and the process it took. Can’t wait for any future videos in the main “Ophaur Saga” (Maybe one on the evolution of the ancestors of Ophaurs and how they managed to survive in the Cenozoic? 😉), even if it takes a while for them to be made. IMO, would make any future video worth it in the end. (Quality over quantity, as they say. And this channel is definitely high-quality.)
now i can literally have a pet ophaur yay
wait its not canon nooooooo
I could totally see these things getting selectively bred in a similar manner to dachshunds to have a mustelid body plan in order to flush out pests and small game out of tight spaces
0:17 NOOO THE RAT!!
I don't know if I should be sad or glad ophaurs aren't domesticated
So cool! 😻
(And honestly pretty helpful for one of my own projects, if you don't mind me rambling about it a bit)
What's it about?
@@TheOphaurDen Basically I had an idea for two alien races, one of them being “domesticated” by the others, and one thought I had was for them being selectively bred for certain traits such as thick, fluffy coats or beautiful fur patterns, with some being seen as very rare and desirable, like with many domestic animals in real life
THIS IS SO COOL!!!
Why am I obsessed with this project 😭
The ophaur lore is insane. Only ten videos in, and we're already dealing with alternate time lines. Amazing. Great video, but it does give me one question. In the thumbnail, the ophaur has its tounge sticking out like a dog, and while this is very cute, does this mean that ophaurs pant? I mean, dogs pant to help them cool down since they cannot sweat like humans. Do ophaurs do the same? Cause as far as I can tell, they're still technically lizards(reptiles). And they regulate their temperature in a very different way to mammals. Still a great video though, and I really like your art.
Also 1:16 gay ophaur.
Ophaurs, being synapsids, means that they aren't reptiles at all. Advanced synapsids like therocephalians would be more mammal-like and therefore warm-blooded.(at least, modern ophaurs are. their triassic ancestors may have been somewhere in-between)
As a result, an ophaur would pant. I'm glad you liked the video!
Youre 100% right. Sorry, its been years since I've read any literature on the subject. And the books that I did read were like a decade old when I read them. I know Synapsids are called "mammal-like reptiles", but you made me look it up, and no, they are not called that anymore. All of my reading about paleontology that I did in middle school has become obsolete. What a scam. But thank you for correcting me.
Basically, these guys are more like mammals than reptiles, so they would definitely be able to pant.
Ok, so I had to look this up, but you two are 100% right. I know that its been like 5 years since I've touched a book on paleontology, (and when I did read those books, they were like a decade old anyway) but I'm just surprised that the group that is commonly called the "mammal-like reptiles" are not actually reptiles. Or maybe, that's just what the reptiles want us to think!
Thank you for clearing up confusion when I could've done it myself in a 30 second google search. Both of you have a great day.
so cool❤
Nice
Can you do speculative evolution for ophaurs?
Cool
are these actual creatures that existed at one point or is this just speculative evolution ? they do resemble possums.
Yay
giant ophaurs that are the size of bears or even anteosaurus when
While there are no giant true ophaurs, there is one very big species from prehistory.
I would have a guard ophaur and name him Tiger
My answer is:OF COURSE!!!!!
So basically a venomous dog?
Or ferret?
Cool
