Neutral! I kept shouting at the monitor. :)
Yup, my bad. Thanks for watching and "listening", Fun! Stay safe.

How do we connect it to wifi if router has password? Does app take care of it?
@@TmpVideo Short answer is yes, the app takes care of it. He showed the password being entered in the video. Long answer is there are two passwords when dealing with routers normally, the password for logging into the router itself (to set up and configure the actual router), and the SSID password for connecting devices to the router (Smart devices like this Kasa light switch, your smart phone, laptop computer, desktop computer, wireless printer, etc.). The first password I referred to isn't relevant whatsoever when connecting devices, so if that's the password you were referring to in your question, the app doesn't take care of it because it doesn't come into play. That password is only used when logging into your router to configure it which is another story altogether (not relevant when connecting devices). The second password I referred to, the SSID password, *_is_* relevant, and that's the password you enter when connecting any device to your router. That's the password he referred to in the video. Note that the SSID is just the technical name for your WiFi network name (you can Google it), so it's whatever name that was assigned to your network, such as "BobsHomeNetwork" (or whatever you called it). These are the names you see when you select a network from the list of SSID names that appear in the network selection screen of your phone or computer. You're logging your device into that particular SSID network (whichever one you choose from the list) so it's that password you need to enter. The device in this case is the Kasa smart switch which needs the SSID password to join your network.
Me four!
Spent a total of 2.5 hours today (18-22 separate attempts) failing to connect a variety of switches (new home; 20 switches to program). Watched your video, watched it again, paused, followed actions and programmed my first switch in 6 minutes! Thank you, thank you, thank you. (FYI. Major error was not connecting the switch itself to the wifi.) Definitely saving this video as I'll probably forget with the next one.
Very straight forward. It's "neutral" not "natural". Thumbs up on instructions. Purchased 2 of these. Good deal, good price.
Thanks for watching and "listening", clippercargo! :-) How do you like them so far?
How do you know which one is the hot wire between the 2 black wires?
This helped me so much. I have always been afraid to mess with electricity. Thank you
Glad to hear! I know what you mean. Thanks for watching and letting me know, Brandon! Stay well.
Thanks. This switch came home today and I finished everything in 30min, following your instructions. Switch seems to work well.
Great to hear! Thanks for watching and letting me know, @addanametocontinue! Enjoy your smart switch!
Nice thorough video that did not make me feel like I was watching an audition.
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching and letting me know, James! Stay safe.
Another great 'how to' on installing some smart products. Thanks!!!
I loved this video. Tks for sharing it. It helped to set up mine so easily! Simple and to the point. Perfect. Tks.
This did the job! Thanks for creating and sharing!
Glad to know. Thanks for watching and letting me know, David! Cool name, BTW. :-) Stay safe.
Thanks! This helped me. I didn’t know what to do with the other 2 wires on the smart switch when what i was replacing only had 2 like yours.
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching and letting me know, inigo! Stay safe.
The best video about to install kasa smart switch!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Good to hear! Thanks for watching and your support, @rick.M2000!
Neutral not natural 😂
I understood what you meant. :)
Good catch, Miguel! Yup, you got what I meant. Thanks for "listening". Stay safe.
Thank you for this. It was really easy to follow. 👍🙂
Glad to hear. Thanks for watching and letting me know, BrianthatiscalledBrian! Stay safe and Happy New Year!
You have a great video. I just installed one. Thank you!
Great to hear! Thanks for watching and letting me know, Don!
Nice video!!! Very easy to understand and follow. "Neutral not natural" has already been addressed.
Glad to hear! Thanks for "listening", Willee! 😀 Stay safe.
BTW, I'm checking out a cheaper smart switch. Will be sure to say "Neutral" instead in that video. Thanks again!
@@Tech4Baba Be careful with cheaper. I've been using an HS-200 for a couple of years now. Currently have 2 more on the way from Amazon for $13.99/pc. Remember, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I hear you, Willee. That's a good price on the HS-200.
Thank you for this vid! Big Help!
Glad to hear. Thanks for watching and letting me know, Marlon! Stay well.
Very well done. Thanks for taking the time to make and share.
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching and letting me know, Jim!
Thanks for the super helpful video !
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching and letting me know, MrEnforcer2324! Stay well.
Great video Sir. Instructions are very clear and simple.
Glad to hear. Thanks for watching and letting me know, rfrancoi! Stay well.
I love doing this in my house. So far I'm up to 10 installs. The double and triple gang is not my fav. great video
Thank you! 🎯Just bought one of these and am getting ready to install it for my front porch. Video helped make things really clear on this process.👍🏽
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching and letting me know, gr8ride411! Have fun with your new switch!
The hardest part of this install was shoving the wires into the very back of the indwelling box. The bulky back of the Kasa switch is not trivial. Also, don't be lazy (like I was) and test the switch BEFORE shoving all the wires into the box. Finally, as some have pointed out, the faceplate provided can be removed if you have a series of switches next to each other.
Thank you! So easy!
You're welcome! Glad to hear. Thanks for watching, ilan!
I love ❤️ you mention the family! I would have said the same thing. 👍
Thanks for watching and letting me know, James! Though chaotic at times, it's been the best blessing for me! Cherish your time with yours!
Great video. Thanks for showing that I need to connect ALL two neutral wires. The app does not say it so I only connected one, and the switch was not powered up. Then I spent half an hour figuring out how to pull off the plate safely because it was dang tight and every attempt seemed to crack it. The second switch was much easier, and I decided not to use its dang tight plate. Lesson learned.
Great to hear! Thanks for watching and sharing your experience, Xiaoxing! Merry Christmas!
I ordered this last week. Lets see how it goes. Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching, jajapani! Good luck with the installation. Stay well!
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching, Water Lily!
Thanks! Very helpful
Glad to hear, A Khan! Thanks for watching and letting me know! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
This video is very helpful.
Video was so helpful!! & yes (natural = neutral)
Glad to hear. Thanks for watching and "listening", Frankie! :-)
Great Video, thank you for explaining the wiring. Is there an easy way to remove the front plate from the TP-Link HS200 light switch? They do not come off by prying gently.
Very insightful video. Thank you! Where can I buy an electrical box that fits this switch?
Great how to review.
Glad to hear. Thanks for watching and letting me know, Dan! Happy New Year!
What about if in my home I only have three cables ground, one black and one withe, should I plug the two black ones that the switch have into the one black one or only one of the two that the switch have ???
I have one but I can't get the damn face plate off. How the heck do you do that without breaking it. You are all just so smart to leave that little detail out.
Finally found a video where to do this, but why no instructions on the box. Even with the video, I thought I was going to break something. This should not be this hard.
Thank you!!!
You are very welcome, blacklily624! Thanks for watching and commenting. Stay safe!
Warning: If you have an older house the wall box may be too small to fit a 3 times larger switch and the extra connector caps. Then you have to put the old switch back or tear up your wall for a new box. Did he say "natural wire" instead of neutral wire? Yes he did.
Two live black wires ?? 220. Isn't it line in load out !! I'm a bit confused
@@Lion-dq9uj it is line in and load out but smart switches detect which wire is which.
What if you have only one black wire to connect to and one red one
Do you to do one at a time? Or can I install all 15 that I bought at once and then set them up one by one?
great video
Thanks for watching and letting me know, element74! Have a safe and merry Christmas!
Can I use this if I have 2 switches one for the light and one for the fan? Or do I need to buy a different plate?
Finally I was getting so frustrated I couldn’t connect these and there are no instructions with step by step instructions
Thanks for watching, @jacquelinepodgorski7557! Were you able to get yours connected?
Can you group another switch, just connected to power somewhere, to make them a 3 way switch? Also, if you can, will it still work if wifi is down?
Mine was next to an other switch.. Four cables were together I assumed it was the neutral.. I separate the two for the right switch together and put the other two together with my white cable on my wifi switch. The two black wires that was on my old switch.. One of them was like yours and the other one is like stripped in the middle with a tail a little bit before.. I tried to connect it the way it was on the other switch but when I turned power back on it's like there's no power on the switch nothing happened.. Do you know if there's something I could have done wrong ? thank you !!
Will I be able to control this if I'm out at a park or on the road???
Thanks for the video. My old switch for some reason has 3 black wires. I am not sure why, but how to connect to the two black wires on Smart switch? Also, do we need to differentiate b/w load and live black wires?
You're welcome, Nikhil! The extra black wire probably goes to another switch or light. You can just attach the black wires the same way as the old switch. No need to differentiate between load or live black wire with the HS200. Thanks for watching and asking! Stay safe.
my switch is double, like the one on your left, do they sell it like that ?
so if you have to replace one of the switch on the left (2 push button switch ) how would you do that?
A question and a few comments... 1.) it's neutral like everyone else is saying... 2.) you should have used a pair of pliers to twist the end of the wires together before installing the wire nut, this helps ensure a good connection and helps prevent one of the wires from slipping out.
Now the question: what happens after a power outage?? I.E. if the switch was in the off position, and there's a power outage, when the power is restored does the light come on or stay off??
Thanks for watching and your comments, John! Good question! Most of the time, the switch stays off when the power comes back on.
2. You don't have to, especially when added stranded to solid.
Great Video......Thanks Question would this switch work for LED lights??? Thanks
Glad to hear. Thanks for watching and letting me know, Karl. It does for me. The light in my video is a LED light. Stay well!
I find it's easier if it's inverted: normally when you turn on a paddle swith you press from the top. Also, if you need to reset the switch it's easier to see the small recessed buttons from the top.
Good point. Thanks for watching and sharing, Iam Sam! Stay well!
Such a simple thing, but still...I don't think I would not have thought of it myself.
I'm going to be installing a few in the next few days and I think the default position might have bugged me long term.
Thank you for providing a solution to a problem I didn't know I had yet!
Thank you for the video. Would this work if I don't have a neutral wire?
You're welcome. Thanks for watching, Anthony! No, unfortunately, it won' work if you don't have a neutral wire. Stay safe.
Do you have a flex house or Romex? Old school they left the neutral up where you put your light fixture and only dropped down a switch leg and hot to the actual switch, you can try and feed the switch with a neutral wire and connect it in the light fixtures jbox
What if the way the house is wired it only has one black wire how do I wire both of the black wires?
Hello, I have only one black wire coming out of my light box. Do I attach both black wires from the switch in that one? Thank you!
Was there an answer on this?
Will the switches turn on and off on a timer when wifi is off?
Thanks, good video. I just received the HS200. I wired two blacks with black, ground/green, and white with a group of black and painted wires that connected to a blue wire on the old switch. I think that means it gets power from a different switch. It set up easily with Kasa. But it doesn't work the lights. Is it possible I have the wrong version of switch (3 way needed)?
Thanks for watching and letting me know, Marc. If the light can be controlled by another switch, you'd need the 3-way HS210, amzn.to/3uXmsNd.
@@Tech4Baba I think I have a similar situation - I am trying to connect HS200 (with two black wires) to a backyard flood light with a motion sensor and 1 black wire. I connected the two wires on the switch to the one wire on the light but the light does not work. Do I have a wrong switch?
Does this work with the old wall plate, I want to buy a few of these, but all of my switches are in groups of 2s and 3s
Good question, Hydrogen Studios. Yes, they work with standard wall plates. Thanks for watching! Stay safe.
Yes you can reuse the original cover plate screws you will also need the longer screws from the original switch to put the newer switch in it's place. I'm kinda surprised that the newer screws were not included as well as the paper screw retainers but the paper retainers are Not necessary. The cover plate screws are about a ¼ of an inch and the switch retainer screws are about an inch. Hope this helps. Eddie J. Long Island N.Y.
I dont have a ground wire, just neutral, two black wire. Will this switch work?
Do you have to use their faceplate? I'm looking to add these to a spot where there are multiple switches. Thanks!
Good question, Andrew. No, you don't. I have one installed next to a normal switch covered by a standard 2-gang faceplate. Thanks for watching and asking!
What if you’ve only got one black, one white and one ground?
Thanks for watching and asking, Rex! This smart switch does require a neutral wire to work. I found a good one that doesn't if you want to check it out, czcams.com/video/g_rYZDJ31BE/video.html.
Great video thank you so much! Question - I have 3 switches closer together (like the two to the left of your new switch). Would I have to use the old plate? The tp link one seems thick
Yes, you can. That's how I have mine in other rooms. Thanks for watching and letting me know, SundinOwnsYou! Stay safe.
I was looking to install this for lights in front of the house. I was going to ask the same question, the light switch I have there is a double like the switch on the left on this video. So that original plate cover will fit over the smart switch, correct?
Nice
Thanks for watching, Humera! Stay safe.
Hey, what's the switch to the left of this switch?
Have to be to the same network connection or you can do it through the app if you are away from home
Good question, Danny. You can control the switch remotely away from home. Thanks for watching!
Does it matter which black wire is connected to which black wire? Also what do I do if there is no place to connect the white natural wire?
Good question
Which black wire doesn't matter. Thanks for watching and asking, Bimmer! This switch does require a neutral wire to work, though. I found a good smart switch that doesn't require a neutral wire if you'd like to check it out, czcams.com/video/g_rYZDJ31BE/video.html.
my house has 3 wires not 4 like in the video. It has green (ground) red (live wire) and black (neutral) can it still be connected?
If I have a bunch of these in my home can it slow down my wifi?
I’m getting this so I can turn on/off my fan it’ll be so much easier to use
Great! Thanks for watching and sharing, KevGotEm! Stay well.
Can I just hire you to do it in my house? 😂😂😂
Can this switch be setup for a dusk to dawn setting? I'm using it for a front porch light
Yes, it can via the app. Thanks for watching and asking, Wacky Guitar! Stay well.
Yes extremely easy. I usually Add 15-30 minutes as it's usually not that dark at sunset in my neck of the woods. And depending on your location I subtract 15+/- Minutes dependent on your sunrise. If your using LED lighting and not worried about a penny or two on your power bill just use either Sunset or Sunrise without adding or subtracting time. I find it useful that Kasa gives us the options in Thier app. If you have any TPLINKS KASA questions? Just ask and I'll do my best to answer including any internet questions I to am not familiar with. Eddie J. Long Island N.Y.
They are 3way switches??
What is the red wire for
Can you set the switch to wirelessly control kasa light strips, so that when you press the switch, the kasa led light strips will turn on in the room?
Thanks for watching, brock b! The light switch can only control what's wired up to the switch. However, multiple Kasa devices can be grouped and controlled together in the App.
Would your old wall plate have fit over the new switch? I’d like to replace the switches on a 3 gang plate, and want to keep using the same wall plate.
Good question, Sally! Yes, it should. Have you given it a try?
i could not deattach the wall plate from the switch, it prevented me from screwing the switch to the wall. How did you resolve this problem?
quick question: when i removed my original switch, i saw 3 black (live wires, i think) and 3 white (neutral wires) however i didn't see any ground wires. if this is the case - what do i do? should i just cover the ground wire from this switch with the switch cover on it's own and connect the others accordingly or does this indicate that the smart switch is not compatible with my system?
I need help with this too, I have three black wires and three neutral wires. I’m trying to install the smart switch in my bedroom. In my old light switch, two of the black wires were clamped in together and the other black wire was clamped. I tried to install it in the same way to my smart light, but I ended up just being able to turn on and off the living room light with my smart switch.
Hi David, do u know if I can block the switch to turn on ? Is there that option in the app ? For example, to avoid my kids to turn it on …??
Good question, Sequinho! I don't think there is an option to do so. Thanks for watching and asking! Stay safe.
Will these work in track lights and also my switch box only has one black wire. What am I suppose to do? Tks
It will work with track lights but can't work with just one black wire, unfortunately. Thanks for watching and asking, meng chuo lee! Stay well.
Are the 2 black wires the same? I read somewhere that the 2 black wires are different, one is called Load and the other is Line. How do I know which to connect? I noticed you just connected them without choosing.
Thanks for watching, favoritemyvideo! You are right that one of the black wire is line (connects the light switch to home’s circuit breaker panel) and the other black wire is load (connects the light switch to the light fixture). You can connect either one with either of the HS200's black wires. Stay safe!
@@Tech4Baba Great. thanks a lot!
What if I only have 1 black wire coming from my wall?
Hey nice video,
So my switch box only has 1 black, 1 white and one ground. The smart switch has 2 blacks? What do I do with them?
Did you figure it out? We have the same thing.
@@freshbloominclothing hey Mellissa,
The guy never replied, but I talked to an electrician friend of mine and I got it working. Here's what he told me and it works great. But do it at your own risk...
"The white and the black In the Box go on the blacks of the switch. The green goes to the Box screw in the back And the white doesn't have a neutral in your switch Box so you can just connect it with the green. It should work but but is illegal."
Does it matter which black wire on the switch, goes to which black wire in the wall?
No, it doesn't. Thanks for watching and asking, Mike! Stay safe.
Hi, in my room. I have 2 light switches and 4 lights. One switch controls 2 lights, and the second light switch controls the remaining 2 lights. How would I install the Kasa HS200 with this?
Would I need a second HS200?
If you want to control all 4 lights, you'd need to replace both switches with HS200s. Thanks for watching and asking, sam tim! Stay safe.
My cable box only has 1 black wire, 1 white wire and no copper ground but I hooked the black ones together and the ground to a random screw. My ceiling fan & light both do not turn on. Any clue why?
Same here. Ya figure it out?
Need help I only have 3 wires green which will go copper , red idk where it would go??? And black wire to black wire , si there is 2 black wires on switch
My switch doesn't have a ground wire, instead it has two thick copper wire nailed to the back by 2 nails. Is it safe to tie the ground wire on the smart switch to the copper wire in my switch socket? Thank you!
Thanks for watching, Jeff! Copper wires are usually grounding wires but you may want to confirm with an electrician just to be sure. Stay safe!
Hi this is my problem too I tried gettin the two with the green ground in the switch and the breaker just tripps idk what to do😢
Late. But there are line and load for the black wires. It matters which one you put it on. If I'm not mistaken line is the hot wire and load goes to the light.
does it work with 8 ft. Linear White Integrated LED Warehouse Strip Light with 8176 Lumens, 4000K, UNV Voltage
Yes, it should. Thanks for watching and asking, Judy! Stay safe.
I only have to wire's a hot and neutral, no load wire, the switch came on, but light not turning, not sure what supposed to do
can it work on schedules such as sunrise and sunset?
Yes
Can you set them on a timer?
Yes, you can in the app. Thanks for watching and asking, Ramon! Are you considering one?
Another question. What if for any reason we loose the wifi and internet doesn’t work. Will the switch still work manually?
Good question, Faty's World! Yes, it works manually, too. Thanks for watching and asking! Stay well.
Whats the rating for the caps it comes with?
Mine came with 73B orange wire-nut connectors. Thanks for watching, lover and a hater! Stay safe and Happy New Year!
We have 2 light switches in the dining room. Now that it's installed, the regular light switch is blinking on and off and the Kasa isn't working at all. Any solutions?
Are the two light switches controlling the same light? If so, you have a 3-way switch and need to the Kasa Smart HS210 3-Way Smart Switch instead. You can check it out here: amzn.to/37BdX1A. Thanks for watching, Mrs. Collins PAL Room 19! Stay safe and Happy New Year!
@@Tech4Baba Thank you so much for your response. An electrician set it up using the main switch and closed the second switch. I was so upset when I contacted the live chat from Kasa - their only response (after chatting for an hour) was I needed to rewire the switch!
I installed mine but there is light on I returned one of them thinking it was damaged I got another one still the same issue can you please help me mine has only two line ground and neutral
What if my available wiring for the switch doesn't have a ground or neutral...
You didn’t show removal of the faceplate before installation. Some people will be concerned about this as they’re quite firmly attached from the factory and require a bit of work to remove.
Good point, Keith. Thanks for watching and sharing! Stay well.
This is actually what I was hoping to see.
I only have 1 black wire along with a white one and a green one in my wall. Helplp
Just what’s one to do, if there’s only *one black ‘hot’ wire among the wiring at the wall? Thanks
A light switch should always have a line and a load since one is hot and supplying power to the switch and one carries that power to the light once a switch is flipped to on. Outlets are the ones that sometimes only have a line wire and then just hook that up and cap off the unused load wire.
