Mark is one of my favorite guitarists of all time. Y'all need to check out his solo work. Especially Spark&Echo, and Deep: The Baritone Sessions. No one quite like this 🐐
I hear a lot of heavy grunge hard rock stuff: soundgarden, alice in chains, nirvana, green river, faith no more, smashing pumpkins, temple of the dog, primus, Melvins, but man, I just miss King's X. Such a shame for me.
What I love is all the love for the love that Mark showed for King's X. I was like, right on, and then I read the comments .... and then I right on'd again!
Love how much mark is into prince.. prince never gets enough credit in the guitar world.. and that probably explains why I love marks playing so much too!
DAMN IT - All Day Sucker is such an underrated song, great choice! Love that verse riff with Stevie mirroring it in the vocals :D Also win with the King's X
Though Mark Lettieri plays the guitar, he reminds me so much of Guy Patterson from the movie "That Thing You Do" when he talks. He just seems like a really-down to earth fella and even when his musical vocabulary and knowledge is quite impressive, he's still a humble person.
Bambi was my favorite riff way back when and I totally havn’t heard it in years. Put this on to check out the riffs and you start with that and it really made my day. Love that track glad you had it on here!
One thing - the Band of Gypsies New Years Eve album was recorded in the Fillmore *East*, making that song recorded not in Berkeley but in the one and only New York City
Thanks Mark! I love playing that Sly tune you shared here. That is my first foray into playing funk licks on the guitar. Can anyone else recommend some others?
“I threw some reverb and delay on it to make me feel better about myself”. So true!!! Lol I wish I could throw a bit of verb and delay other aspects of my life. Boss gets mad…throw some verb on it. Lol
Very tasty list! Always happy to see love for the Mighty King’s X!!! And Stevie Wonder is of course legend, but cool to see a a lesser known tune but one that I totally agree just absolutely jams!
Saw Mark at M3 in Anaheim at NAMM for the Elements of Sound show. Stellar player, killer funk chops and this was great! And as King's X is my fave, as soon as he started Black The Sky, I knew he'd forever be one of my favorite players. 🙌🏻
The best riff is the opening to Beethoven's Fifth. "DADA-DYMMMM/DADA-DOOOMMM" - closely followed by 85% ofAC/DC (R.I.P Malcolm, you lived and died in the pocket)
what a sound with single coils and what a player, and yes you're right, kings'x is for me the best underrated band in rock history. Ty and DuG are genius. thx to the Master of Funk M.E. for this.
Mark is great. TC Electronic is great - except for the pedal I got that came in the post defective :-( - but that tone of the first riff is huuuuuuuuuuge and on the bridge? EEEEEY!!!! :-D yesterday I heard for the first time Who Knows, covered by Philip Soyce and I was noodling right on the moment of this video the riff.... and then he starts playing it! ha! cool stupid little moment hahaha
"Band of Gypsys" - Recorded at Fillmore East (NYC), January 1, 1970. His last full-length album, and one he would not have released except for contractual obligations with Capitol records.
Austin Prince There’s a couple videos on CZcams where he talks about his pedal set up for the road and his supro, and he was also featured in an add for a supro statesman or somethin. I dont remember but yeah i suggest those vids
Mark Lettieri playing bambi from Prince. He does understand good music :D! And look at his budget pedalboard 1:00 proves that a great guitarist does not need the most expensive gear! Even a cheap Mojo overdrive, damm. Oh wait he does play a 'Haar" guitar... o_O.
You should try MojoMojo with drive/gain under 11 or 12 o'clock... if you understand what is the purpose of that pedal. And then try to buy the most expensive pedals that you can buy with the same purpose as mojomojo. And then put them all in front of very very expensive amp, and don't forget also very very very good guitar. And then, let me know what you think about mojomojo. And don't forget, don' try pedals at home, but with band in real situation. Which pedal is better than mojomojo and why?
Who's here for Mark!! 🙋♂️
Was actually hoping he meant favorite riffs he wrote. Got excited to see if “Little Minx” would make the list (my favorite tune of his).
Groove Bros I’m here for bruce
Groove Bros me🤚😍
He just won me over completely with the King’s X riffs. I really like this guy. He’s a total geek in the very best way.
Mark is one of my favorite guitarists of all time. Y'all need to check out his solo work. Especially Spark&Echo, and Deep: The Baritone Sessions. No one quite like this 🐐
His new album is fantastic! Things Of That Nature. May be my favorite yet.
Spark&Echo blows my mind every time. He's one of my favorite contemporary players as well! (Along with Guthrie Govan of course ;P)
I love that Mark is influenced by King’s X! One of the greatest rock bands of all time!!!
Absolutely. Criminal how unrecognised they are
I hear a lot of heavy grunge hard rock stuff: soundgarden, alice in chains, nirvana, green river, faith no more, smashing pumpkins, temple of the dog, primus, Melvins, but man, I just miss King's X. Such a shame for me.
King's X - hell yes! Great choice and Ty is one of my all time favourite guitarists. Love Snarky Puppy too.
Just another comment about how much I love both Mark and Ty Tabor. King's X for the win.
Nice to hear a tasteful guitarist, not just another Shredomatic !!
You don’t accidentally mean Frank Gambale? 😀
@@goodguy2627 Mr Sweep ! :-)
What I love is all the love for the love that Mark showed for King's X. I was like, right on, and then I read the comments .... and then I right on'd again!
Love how much mark is into prince.. prince never gets enough credit in the guitar world.. and that probably explains why I love marks playing so much too!
Ty Tabor would be proud of Mark!!!! What a guy!!!And he plays well also!!
So glad to see some love for King X, one my favorite bands of all time as well. Mark is as tasteful of a listener as he is a player :)
“King’s X favorite rock bands of the history of the world” 👍🏻
James Furr I totally agree- and they are recording a new record!
Kevin Call I heard that!
Moanjam from FHL is my #1 Blues ever!
jist in case some bassist comes across this and wonders what the bass in the background is: it's a Sandberg Classic.
All excellent choices!
Black The Sky is my favorite riff by one of the most underrated bands of all time, so glad it got some love!
Great call re: Guy Patterson. LOL Bravo, man.
Mark Lettieri talking about King's X is everything I needed today :D
Wow, black the sky! nice pick!
Bambi was my favorite riff way back when and I totally havn’t heard it in years. Put this on to check out the riffs and you start with that and it really made my day. Love that track glad you had it on here!

Ojai, Point Iz, and Naptime are great tunes from the album "Things of that Nature'.
“I threw some reverb and delay on it to make me feel better about myself”. So true!!! Lol
I wish I could throw a bit of verb and delay other aspects of my life. Boss gets mad…throw some verb on it. Lol
Mark such a great player!!!
Very tasty list!
Always happy to see love for the Mighty King’s X!!!
And Stevie Wonder is of course legend, but cool to see a a lesser known tune but one that I totally agree just absolutely jams!
I've been getting really into his playing recently, so cool to see this. The fact that he chose a King's X riff just makes me love him even more
That King's X riff killed me.
Saw Mark at M3 in Anaheim at NAMM for the Elements of Sound show. Stellar player, killer funk chops and this was great! And as King's X is my fave, as soon as he started Black The Sky, I knew he'd forever be one of my favorite players. 🙌🏻
Thanks dude! That was a FUN night!
I like Mark even more for loving kings x!!!!!
Good God! I don't know why but that G-Style he uses for Black the Sky just vibed with me something crazy, what a BEAUTIFUL instrument!!
Mark's such a cool guy
The best riff is the opening to Beethoven's Fifth.
"DADA-DYMMMM/DADA-DOOOMMM" - closely followed by 85% ofAC/DC (R.I.P Malcolm, you lived and died in the pocket)
King's X!! YES!
Hell yeah. So killer. Also, the TONE he has is phenomenal.
I’ve always dug Snarky Puppy but you made my day with the Kings X riff. Ty has always been my fav player.
For those that love Mark and King’s X, checkout Cosmosquad (fusion + heavy edge w/ guitarist Jeff Kollman)
Whenever I play the Who Knows riff it, sooner or later, turns into Sunshine of Your Love by Cream.
totally makes sense that he is a Kings X fan and heavily influenced by them .. his groove is fire
mark has the whole package,he s the man!
what a sound with single coils and what a player, and yes you're right, kings'x is for me the best underrated band in rock history. Ty and DuG are genius. thx to the Master of Funk M.E. for this.
wooo! more like this pls
KING'S X!!!!! YES!!! Much respect!!
Bambi sounded fucking huge
Love this guy, watch ever he plays. I guess I’m just a fan.
This is incredible
dude looks like colin firth and badger blended together
How profoundly accurate.
Omg, I fucking love playing that Bambi riff!
And just to prove he loves music for the sake of music, King's X and Stevie Wonder. Any argument, any argument at all, is invalid.
"Band of Gypsys" - Recorded at Fillmore East (NYC), January 1, 1970. His last full-length album, and one he would not have released except for contractual obligations with Capitol records.
5:25 Props for the King's X riff.
WOW! Prince - Bambi
Great töne! Does anyone know what guitar and (most importantly) what pickups he is using? Such a fat tone for a strat, love it!
Up
All over the love for King's X.
THe Who Knows riff sounds a lot like Good Morning Little School Girl
Yeah, it do.
Gotta love the Sly and Stevie Wonder riffs. I'd mention Jimi but that's painfully obvious.
Amazing tone bro
King's X!!!??!! Mark, you da man!
Mark, you did King's X. We can be friends!
Dogman is such a killer album
For the Hendrix riff check out John Lee Hooker's Good Morning Little School Girl for the source
The first riff was a relatively obscure Prince song and I immediately shit my pants
Mark is awesome.
Band of Gypsys was recorded in NYC. Not Berkeley !!! Most interesting Hendrix live performance !!!
who knows 😍😍😍😍
Where's the Grosh?!?
Awesome as. I need to get a few more mod type pedals. Pedalboard giveaway?
He did a full pedalboard review for thomann on CZcams. You'll find it easily ;).
What is the guitar Mark is using for the Kong’s X riff? That thing is beautiful!
Tyler Southern It’s a Hansen G-style.
Bambi! Yes!
KingsX rules!
What were you using in your rig to get the sounds for heavy riffs & how is TC Electronic a part of the rig ? (especially for King's X)
This is the bass rig: bit.ly/marklboard ... but for the King's X stuff, it's a HoneyPot Fuzz 🙂
What pickups is Mark using with this beautiful strato?
What's the orange pedal next to the pipeline? Something new?
Nope. It's the Gravy Tri-Chorus & Vibrato, a TonePrint pedal we did in collaboration with Guitar Center some years ago :-)
What is the tele that he is playing and where can I get one? That guitar is amazing
nwillard81 A Hansen G-style
Perhaps this guy is a suppressed rocker playing for Snarky Puppy?
Check Slugbug
isnt the Jimi riff actually "good morning little schoolgirl"?
Looks like Badger from breaking bad
I wonder what the amp was
lol At first I thought, he played a Harley Benton Guitar!
Not Jeff Beck on All Day Sucker, It's W. G. "Snuffy" Walden..Beck's on Looking For Another Pure Love though.
Ah you're right! I don't know where I read it was Jeff...#alternativefacts
What pedals and amp is Mark using?
Austin Prince There’s a couple videos on CZcams where he talks about his pedal set up for the road and his supro, and he was also featured in an add for a supro statesman or somethin. I dont remember but yeah i suggest those vids
In this video, he's rocking this board: bit.ly/marklboard The exception is on the King's X tune, where we added a Honey Pot Fuzz for some dirt.
Once you’ve seen the video, here the songs

simple song riff is very similar to the one on "we gotta live together" on the memorable "Band of Gypsys" !!! who's first ?
Jimi was referencing Sly there. "Sing A Simple Song" is off of Stand! from '69, Band of Gypsys was recorded on New Years of '70.
@@dlein93 thanks +++
Why does it sound like someone is eating next to the mic..
Ho! Hi Mark.
That dude is so nice :) i'd like to hang out

Unfortunately it's not a Haar strat. Mark plays a Hansen Stratocaster build in Danmark
@@benjaminbroecks6798 Oh! I see it now haha.

What's brand it's that guitar? Thank you
Hansen guitars, both the tele and strat
Thank you so much!
Made in Denmark
Funk scale?
Mixolydian mode.
Major scale with a b7
I've just noticed that Mark looks like a young Dominic West - I've just started a rewatch of The Wire
CHANGA LANGIN!!
3:57 "Maybe there's a different way to finger it or something" - Mark Lettieri
