I found Kate’s music as my wife’s memory started to fade. Each day as took care of my wife, Kate’s music helped me cope. Now that my sweet wife is gone Kate’s music helps me remember. And shed my tears. My wife’s name was Kay. To love and be love is everything.
Such a beautiful old soul. I met Kate thru her soon to be husband Don Coffin in 1971. Don and I had a music class together at Sonoma State College. He invited me to his beautiful Victorian house he shared with Kate in Sebastopol one night to jam. We sat in her kitchen by the old wood stove and sang and sang till the wee hours of the morning. I went back often to sing and play with her and Don. I treasure those moments. She was only 29 then but this was not her first time on the planet. I was mesmerized by her presence. One night I was at one of her gigs and she asked me up on stage to join her in a couple of songs we used to play on those nights in her kitchen. I will forever be grateful for that experience. She was just a struggling singer/songwriter in those days, but I'm so happy she broke thru to the public and became a success. Her star will forever shine bright in the Universe. RIP Sweet Kate.

I heard this song once before back around 1986 and it’s lyrics appealed to me instantly but I never heard it since I guess it was played at the time Kate passed away RIP but by chance It came up in You Tube mix and I can’t stop playing it all week. Kate must have been a woman who was soaking in love kindness caring and romance. I also learned she’s left this world far too soon back in December 10/1986 this brings me to tears every time I hear her sing this wonderful song. Long live your music Kate your children must be very proud of you 👏❤️

That's impressive. The Tibetan believe if you lived a life of compassion you will accept old age better. I bet Kate was very gracious when you took care of her
Had the pleasure and privilege of seeing her perform at Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, CA, way back in the day (early/middle 80s). So it was just before her tragic death in 1986. My friend and I went up to the stage after her performance to thank her for her music. She then graciously signed the album we had just bought. She told my friend, "Oh, you have such beautiful earrings!" My friend promptly took them off and gave them to Kate. Kate didn't want to accept them saying, "Oh, they are much too beautiful to give away." My friend said, "It's a small exchange for all the pleasure you've brought me with your music. Please. Take them. It would make me so happy." Kate smiled beautifully and put the earrings on there and then. A precious memory!
I only discovered Kate Wolf a couple of months ago and was dismayed and saddened to discover that she is no longer with us. A wonderful talent with a beautiful voice, taken from us far too soon. ❤
I just discovered her a couple days ago, I received an autographed copy of her Big Blue Sky cd along with a lot of old music CDs, and she actually signs her name Kayte Wolf, and this is dated 8/11/02. I love the warmth of her voice.
leeger777 no kidding I just found this. Then to find out she is gone. Example of parallel realities. She exists as if alive and well, perfect voice and evoking emotions....
Andrew Prokopis happened to me exactly the same way. Never heard of her before, I’m now hooked on all her songs, finding new ones every time I go digging, wonderful stuff.
Same thing happened to me last year. Just stumbled across this video while listening to other songs. I was blown away. Couldn't believe I'd never heard of her or this song. I probably listened to this song for several hours on repeat. The guitar is perfect and her voice is heavenly.
November 4, 2021 marks a special day in my life. It is the day I first knew of Kate Wolf and heard her sing. The date also marks the day of this...my very first CZcams post. How I came across this "Kate Wolf-Green Eyes" CZcams video is a complete mystery; the video just appeared in the right-hand column of up-coming videos...was listened to...and DESERVED comment. I am now very conflicted. Since my early days of college in the 1960s, Joan Baez has always been my favorite female folk singer...especially Joan singing Bob Dylan songs. And then, today, for the very first time, I heard Kate Wolf sing "Green Eyes" with the voice of an angel. WOW! What a voice! So calming. So beautiful.
Amazed. At the younger generation that has just heard her for first time, and the ones that are singing her material. People still yearn for beautiful music like thist.
Same here Ian. Dont know how she slipped past my "radar" And how about that singing harmony with that Bass player. I am really so taken with her performance. Beautiful lady too.OHHH I just saw in one of the comments she dies in 86. Terrible loss. I guess that explains a lot, huh?
It's sad that such artists as Kate Wolf and Eva Cassidy died so young. For us younger fans, we've discovered them through there passion that's traveled through time in recordings.
Thank you for bringing up Eva Cassidy. Another angelic voice. She grew up in a Maryland suburb of Washington DC, and was beloved here on the local music scene. She loved her day job in a local greenhouse, & I've always suspected exposure to an agricultural chemical must have figured into her devastating cancer.
The Miss Grundy's who cannot stand her. She is sadly missed, but had a significant impact on music in her short life and was nominated to the Hall of Fame the year after she passed away from Leukemia in 1986. Those who attack her only reveal their own smallness and lack of character and accomplishments.
I heard of Kate wolf. This is the first time I am hearing her performance. I am sorry she passed away at age 44. I want to convey my condolences and express my heartfelt sympathy to her family, friends and relatives.
Don't understand how people with such talent don't get played on radio stations. Same applies to people like Suzanne Vega, Loudon Wainwright III , Sandy Denny, Kate Rusby, Kate and Anmna McGarrgle, Richard and Linda Thompson. The list goes on.
u are so lucky i am so lucky too we need this calming voice to clam us through these fucken days hope u guys all here good and healthy from here in Syria with all pain but still we could enjoy beautiful songs
Wow. Where have I been? First time I've heard this lovely sweet voice. Passed at 44? My, what a tragedy. Thumbs down? Really. My God this world has become so damn cruel.
This album was recorded live at Austin City Limits in 1985, at the peak of Kate's career, not long before she was diagnosed with the leukemia that took her from us. I was lucky enough to see her at McCabe's in Santa Monica in the early 1980s, and lucky enough that she sang her all-time hit "Give Yourself to Love" and my fave, "The Trumpet Vine." Two warmer songs I never heard. When she passed, Garrison Keillor played her "Give Yourself to Love" and spoke a brief, moving tribute to her that left no eyes dry.
Her voice is so lovely, I felt so peaceful listening to this, but it's pretty sad Love her beautiful voice but have never heard about her What do you admire most about her?
Sad for me. I just discovered Kate Wolf today, and found out immediately that she is no longer with us. Same thing happened to last year with me with Eva Cassidy. Never knew about either of them, fell in love with their voices and arrangements and then ... gone! Weird. Thanks to Kennethrm3 for posting this!
A voice like Eva's comes along once a generation. Maybe. If w're lucky. The record industry completely missed the boat with Eva. She was not easily 'categorized' (too eclectic), so they never picked her up. Wht a goddamn shocking waste, no....?
7 years later. I discovered Kate Wolf too. Far, far to late. Beautifull!! We will remember her beautifull songs, performance because of CZcams! Thanks!
@@suzannelawson9215 I didn't know I went to listen to a few titles, her voice is a little higher than Kate Wolf's, she reminds me a bit of Joan Baez. It is true that in France we are far from familiar with the American folk repertoire of yesterday and today, which must be very rich. It's a great discovery!!! THANKS !! 🙏
It astonishes me, as a very recent inductee to Kate's music, that she is not better known, certainly here in the U.K.. I have been searching for anything I can find and have even identified and purchased 5 Vinyl L.P's, there is comparatively little available this side of the water. I have made it my mission to get her a little better known here to the extent that I sang Green Eyes at my Folk club last night with the endorsement that my fellow club members check out how it sounds when sung by an Angels voice. She has harpooned me and it is a joyful pain. I am looking to attend her Anniversary Concert next January just to be near some of those who will have known her. I guess it is never too late to discover great music.
I listen to a lot of female singer-songwriters but this is the first time I have heard Kate Wolf. Lovely voice and a fine song. So sad that she died so young. I will definitely listen to more of her songs.
Hi ,I've been a fan of Emmylou since first seeing her on The Old Grey Whistle Test mid 70s, got all her studio albums since not until 2007 when a box set Songbird Rare Tracks and Forgotten Gems came out to celebrate Emmys 60th birthday, one gem was Kate's Love Still Remains, Emmy recorded it for the album Treasures Left Behind. Remembering Kate Wolf , the first I heard of Kate , AJ Lee sings Here in California , she is just 20 a beautiful voice, from Tracy California there are videos of both AJ and Molly Tuttle from Palo Alto on CZcams ,Molly is IBMA guitar player of the year 2017 and 2018
I think she might have had the slight misfortune to become better known in the late '70s around the time punk was surfacing and the baby was thrown out with the bathwater.I was going to folk clubs regularly at the time and knew of her but didn't actually hear her-which is a shame going by what we have here.
Kates voice, is ethereal, haunting, and this beautiful ballad, is really her song. It just re-enforces the saying that it’s beautiful music makes the human spirit soar forever upwards.
On another Kate Wolfe rabbit hole after Nanci's passing. A number of years ago (thinking about it it's probably nearly 30!) I was at an Eric Bogle concert in London...and got him to sign the cover of Poets Heart (written about him by Kate). God she was so good
This has really touched me Victor. I just lost my Mom, I was holding her hand as I saw her take her last breath. It was the greatest honor I've ever felt in my life. I hope the year has been kind to you in your grieving process as I hope mine will be as my year has just begun. As I play this song over again here's to you Kay and Jackie. You are still deeply loved.
Why do I always come across jewels like this after they're gone? I did the same with Eva Cassidy, two voices I would've enjoyed hearing more of, beautiful!
No idea that she ever lived. Just heard her just now for the first time. She‘s so impressive... The good always go too young. But a part of her is still here. With us. Thanks for being with us.
Such a lovely comment....."I love music that sounds like music." Compare this to the crap they call music out of the inner city violent criminals. It's impossible for me to see them as in the same category.....MUSIC!
@@hmichaelhawkins8532 Well, it depends on what or how you appreciate. I always loved Tchaikovsky's 1st. Then I heard Katia Buniatishvili play it with the IPO and now I love it just a little bit more.
Chris Gordon .... Thank you for introducing me to her. I had not known about her and was able to find that IPO concert on CZcams. Simply amazing. How does anyone get their fingers to move like that on a piano keyboard?
My parents house. Took all my savings to renovate it. Found memories. Costs a fortune to mantain. Rent it out to cover the costs. Villa Gardenia, Curacao. What sound and fond memories this song awaken. Life was not so bad at all as a kid, I realize now.
This tune will follow me into eternity. What a songwriter, what a person. Many years after she left us she still is here. I do not believe in God, but let him/her watch over Kate’s soul.
@@cashopa Yes same here, and like the guy above, though I don't have so much time for it since having to busk 🎻 in Veliko Turnovo, 7-10 years ago, I have always loved those Irish trad. Jigs and reels. Hard to believe the years that have flown, and that she died so young, but anyway - we "met" at last thank CZcams and it's Uploaders ! I hope One day sanity will return to this Earth, and give room for some Music !!
I think that's what makes it so memorable, I come back here again and again to hear it, as many say they do. The lyrics are simple yet connect so deeply. maybe the best love song ever written
I must be addicted to KATE'S music. .because I can't stop listening to it. Her voice is beautiful and her lyrics are mesmerizing. She is quite unique with her musical talents.
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
She was such a beautiful person, I was so blessed to have known her, she never wanted to make it big, when she passed on I was in Alaska and friends sent me clips from the newspapers in San Francisco and Nevada City Calif. what a loss, she was a genuine angel on earth.
You were truly blessed So sorry for your loss But that’s how we often realize our blessings is through our losses God Bless you &!Kate & all those who love her music
I'm walking the same path, watching small pieces of my wife's memories and cognitive abilities slip through our fingers. We listen to Kate and find solace there. Even as her beautiful eyes miss more and more.
Watched this concert, with Nina Gerber, in stripes, riffing, on KERA Dallas. This was ‘82 or ‘83. I was in tears. I wrote her, and the return mail from her son, told me that she was very sick. Shortly after she died of leukemia, I believe. There will never be another lady story teller like her. Her ease of delivery makes her very credible. Requiescat In Pace, sweet soul.
Kate Wolf wrote so many awesome songs. This is one of my favourites. Sometime to believe she has been gone for so many years. I wish there had been a cure for her, she died way too young.
This young woman has heart and soul entwined in her character such that every breath is clear and simply from the heart. Such a loss. Although her sound is truly her own she had some great musicians backing her up to round out her genuine sound. The young lady on acoustic guitar helps put bells on the songs and the gentleman on bass has such a warm and truly talented voice to put the vocals in perfect harmony with such a beautiful singer songwriter as was Kate Wolf.
I just love how peaceful her voice sounds So touching, and her voice is so lovely wow this is pretty sad But have never heard about her before, Who's she?
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face!....
I found Kate Wolf through Nancy Griffith Videos and fell in love b/c my wife, Yvonne has Green Eyes and she said Everything I wanted to say. I have a Southern Rock Band ~ Southern Revolution Band; with my Son ~ Shane and my Daughter ~ Corina. I'm 67 yrs. old and I think Kate Wolf is 2nd to None in the Music Business~ God Bless Her! Wish I could of known her years ago ...
First time I have heard this beautiful song with such a amazing singer and band. I lost my 21 yr old daughter 9 years ago . And this song reminds so much of her. We all find comfort and solace in certain songs. And this song is one of those that means so much too so many on many different levels. God bless you for bringing this song to the world.
Every night we light the candle That stands beside our bed But sometimes the flame's too much to handle That's what you said That's what you said And you should know Because you built a fire in me and you made it burn You followed me watching every move Matching every turn Your green eyes, they don't miss a thing They hold me like the sun going down Warm me like a fire in the night Without a sound You were waiting till I heard Just as patient as that love light in your eyes You never threw away a word Or ever talked in a disguise I ought to know You were a beacon to a sailor lost at sea I saw it in your eyes when you looked at me So openly Your green eyes, they don't miss a thing They hold me like the sun going down Warm me like a fire in the night Without a sound The first time I ever saw your laughter Break loose inside and tumble out to me My heart knew it had found what it was after And it came so easily We should know After all the years of the hard and heavy times Now, our days go by like best friends' story lines Yours and mine Your green eyes, they don't miss a thing They hold me like the sun going down Warm me like a fire in the night Without a sound Without a sound

Kate Wolf has been an enigma for me...everytime I find something I havent heard by her before it resonates for me in a way only one other artist ever has...I dont know how to give higher praise than that. Her music always touches me, nearly always moves me...another great loss of talent to the perils that life presents. Her appearance in my life at opportune moments speaks to a greater plan I dont understand or crazy happenstance. I have to wonder by what logic many others were allowed to live (myself included) and she was taken so early. Clearly a mystery and tragedy of chance or an act of a god I dont understand. But in spite of the confusion about her, I am absolutely soul bound to her music in a way that is in itself incomprehensible. And I will accept that and be grateful for it.
I heard this song and read Victors words and I shed tears My wife passed away in May.Kate has a beautiful voice and the words meant so much to me bringing back vivid memories.Thank you Kate and all the best to you Victor

Like Garrison Keillor once said about her: "Ah, that voice." She was a wonderful and gifted performer. Rest in Peace, Kate.
I agree with everyone's comments about Kate but just want to put in a word for that guy's beautiful harmonies...

How is it that I've never heard of Kate Wolf? Clearly I've been missing out on an angel. What a beautiful voice!!! SUCH a pretty song.
Same thing happened to me last year. Just stumbled across this video while listening to other songs. I was blown away. Couldn't believe I'd never heard of her or this song. I probably listened to this song for several hours on repeat. The guitar is perfect and her voice is heavenly.
Glad I'm not the only one. Thrilled we found her Sam!@@samgunderson
There be truth in that, think she is from Woodstock era... try some song from that era, Joni Mitchell just maybe .
Me to, discovered her about 3 years ago. I listen to Kate when I'm working because I lose myself in her voice - angelic.
This is one of the most beautiful love songs ever.
It is so unbelievable great to hear with my 78 years such a great voice. Guess it's the best I've ever heard maybe in my whole life.
This lady could really sing. A massive talent. Such a shame we had to lose her so early. I miss her!!
People still yearn for beautiful music like thist.
never heard Kate before. What an amazing voice.
Ian Dickinson
Listen to her words. Listen to Nina Gerber.
Ian Dickinson not just a voice or performer but with the 'heart of a poet,' she writes the best lyrics.
Same here Ian. Dont know how she slipped past my "radar" And how about that singing harmony with that Bass player. I am really so taken with her performance. Beautiful lady too.OHHH I just saw in one of the comments she dies in 86. Terrible loss. I guess that explains a lot, huh?
Me neither. I think I must Lead a sheltered life. I will definitely look for more of her singing.
this isn't just a music, this is dreaming, living, hoping, feeling....and, and, and.....
This song is so beautiful I can't stand it. It hurts.
I can't listen without tears, why? it just touches me deep. Beautiful.
Green eyes is such a beautiful song and we had the privilege of hearing Kate singing it at our Folk Club In Cramlington.
Would love to have heard her in the flesh. A fellow Cramlingtonite
It's sad that such artists as Kate Wolf and Eva Cassidy died so young. For us younger fans, we've discovered them through there passion that's traveled through time in recordings.
....and Judee Sill...and Sandy Denny...and, and, and...
Truly🧡
Thank you for bringing up Eva Cassidy. Another angelic voice. She grew up in a Maryland suburb of Washington DC, and was beloved here on the local music scene. She loved her day job in a local greenhouse, & I've always suspected exposure to an agricultural chemical must have figured into her devastating cancer.
Absolutely..2 voices that deserve widespread recognition..but if not.. then to the lucky souls whose ears are enriched by their presence
I want a ticket to that concert up there
How the hell can anybody give this a thumbs down. Unbelievable, shame on you 🙁
They who dislike this beautiful piece of work must be Orcs,or some sort of nasty piece of work.
The Miss Grundy's who cannot stand her. She is sadly missed, but had a significant impact on music in her short life and was nominated to the Hall of Fame the year after she passed away from Leukemia in 1986. Those who attack her only reveal their own smallness and lack of character and accomplishments.
Truly freaky that such creatures could walk amongst us. USA !
How come it still says 2 replies. Now there's 4 !
Same people that would give a thumbs down to a free meal.
Je ne sais pas pourquoi je suis sous le choc d'une très grande émotion chaque fois que j'écoute cette chanson...

Not only could her singing get a statue choked up, she definitely had a way with that guitar. Rest in Eternal Peace, sweet one.
Such a beautiful voice
Rest in peace thank you for leaving us so much beautiful music

Some people just have no taste, that or a "tin ear". This song is a masterpiece.
Kate and her music were a gift to all of us.
never ever from me.........
J'ai découvert Kate il y a quelques semaines sur CZcams.. Depuis, je l'écoute tous les jours...
I just discovered Kate Wolf at 38. One of the most beautiful voices I have heard.
My very first time to hear of her only to find out that she's gone. A beautiful discovery. Rest in peace Kate.
Look!!!!!
The good old days!
No mobile phones up in the air recording, but every one watching, enjoying the concert!
And no hollorin' and idiots screaming just to be heard..
Amen to that- -simple and pure🙏
I just discovered her three weeks ago and I haven't stopped listening. So pure.
I am just discovering this angel who was taken way too soon. The words are piercing. Thank you Kate for this gift you left for us.
Ive just discovered her now. Similar to joan Baez
Her voice is so lovely, I felt so peaceful listening to this, but it's pretty sad
Love her beautiful voice but have never heard about her
What do you admire most about her?
Same here, and we aren't the only ones. Odd that.
That's what happened to me today. Sad and beautiful. I needed this, though.
Same here. So sad.
7 years later. I discovered Kate Wolf too. Far, far to late. Beautifull!! We will remember her beautifull songs, performance because of CZcams! Thanks!

@@suzannelawson9215
I didn't know I went to listen to a few titles, her voice is a little higher than Kate Wolf's, she reminds me a bit of Joan Baez.
I guess it is never too late to discover great music.
thanks Kevin ! she's new to me tonight

I have only discovered this gem now. Absolutely love her music and I was saddened when I learned she had died so young.
Everything about the Late Ms. Wolf was beautiful and perfect. Like Eva Cassidy , Amy Winehouse and Karen Carpenter she never gets old.

My husband and I have always loved her music. Gone way too soon. We used to say she and John Denver would have been so good together.
Kate was versatile, deep feeling and unique. Touched many hearts through her songs, music and voice . Gifted.
What a beautiful song, beautiful music, beautiful words, beautiful woman.
The most beautiful voice. -eternal peace Kate Wolf
She is new to me. Her voice captivates the sad times in life. For those of us who know the pain loss brings.

Every night we light the candle
That stands beside our bed
But sometimes the flame's too much to handle
That's what you said
That's what you said
And you should know
Because you built a fire in me and you made it burn
You followed me watching every move
Matching every turn
Your green eyes, they don't miss a thing
They hold me like the sun going down
Warm me like a fire in the night
Without a sound
You were waiting till I heard
Just as patient as that love light in your eyes
You never threw away a word
Or ever talked in a disguise
I ought to know
You were a beacon to a sailor lost at sea
I saw it in your eyes when you looked at me
So openly
Your green eyes, they don't miss a thing
They hold me like the sun going down
Warm me like a fire in the night
Without a sound
The first time I ever saw your laughter
Break loose inside and tumble out to me
My heart knew it had found what it was after
And it came so easily

I have never heard of this lady before, this song is sheer beauty, it is a bright shining diamond of a song, what a voice it is stunning
Like they say,"The good they die young". Maybe some day we will know why, but it won't be on this earth.
That was beautifully written
So well said
