    Is there any difference in actuation ratio? Also, the term for the finish on the old adjustment nut is knurling but I don't know what a machinist would call the flower type nut.

      Maybe but I don’t think so. Possibly the actuation is slightly different to work with mechanical disk brakes, whilst the older version was designed for V brakes solely. - Quick research only reveals the word star, being used as a term

      @@atboy4342 ah, I was thinking not long vs short pull but a more granular difference in actuation ratio. In the case of a brake lever, should be determined by the distance from the pivot to the nipple (not sure where exactly on the nipple to measure though -- center, where the cable comes out?)

      @@vaynomblenner Don’t have the other pair to measure. AT 1:30, that slit is probably where the difference lays. The longer slit on the newer version would probably pull less cable. However the lever handle still pulls the same amount I’d presume on both versions. How does that affect braking? I’d imagine just like on older Avid speed dials, or shimano M600/DX/LX levers, the adjustement led to a less agressive braking from what I remember. This may be a good thing for mechanical disk brakes..something I’ve found probablematic in the past. This post has now made me want to try on my mecs to find out

      @@atboy4342 good point that there are levers that let you adjust. Not sure if the slit affects the ratio though, should only do so if it's at some point where the cable rests. Then I'd expect it to be worn on well used levers. As for how it changes braking -- I think the longer the distance is, the more cable is pulled and therefore the lower the mechanical advantage. Which should indeed mean less aggressive braking, roughly. Consider that V brakes have quite a lot of mechanical advantage, when standard length V brakes are paired with a short pull lever that leads to probably too much mechanical advantage for most users. I've tried it, it's kinda nice actually but the whole system has to be really dialed to work. Not something they like to do at the bike shop, and a big part of why cantis went away in the first place.
