      Operative word here in the title is BETTER. The only one of these three that is legit enough to be at least on par with the original is Johnny Cash's version of Hurt.
      Also, I'm a bit about how Judas Priest's cover of Green Manalishi is on this list, yet their cover of Diamonds and Rust isn't.

      It is a traditional song. Phil Lynott & Lizzy didn't know the entire song. There's actually 7 verses in the song & Lizzy's is completely wrong. Metallica covered Lizzy's version & Lizzy's version is unique to them... Because it's completely wrong.
      Not hating. I love Tin Lizzie, just Phil didn't actually know the lyrics as it was originally meant to be a filler B-side rather than their biggest hit!

      It's *so much better* that Bob Dylan should have just given up playing it so as not to kill the crowd.....Imagine the place getting all hyped at the recognizable start of the song and then disappointed by Dylan's half spoken, bumbling meanderings into the lyrics lol

    Metallica's "Whiskey In A Jar" is really a cover of a cover. It's actually a traditional Irish folk song that Thin Lizzy rearranged into a Rock song. And FYI, I actually think the Thin Lizzy version is the best version of the song.

      The audio for type o negative they're using is for summer girl, not their cover of summer breeze. Both use the same tune, but the lyrics for summer girl aren't radio friendly. " can't wait to get inside of you" etc.

      I love both original and Priest version. They don't interfere with each other at all, both are amazing in their own right, and I like how Priest made the song their own by changing it a lot while not ruining it either. And Peter Green was the real Fleetwood Mac, even if later era is good pop rock, but completely different band.

    Two of classic rock's songs remain and will remain all-time classics in their own right, but what Metallica did with Turn The Page and Disturbed did with Sound Of Silence are on the same level with the original versions by Bob Seger and Simon & Garfunkel respectively. Both versions of each song are true masterpieces and will be for several decades to come.

      antimax DOESNT surprise me. His interpretation does the song true justice. Dylan is a phenomenal songwriter but he’s limited as a singer and instrumentalist. Hendrix is the greatest rock guitarist ever and he took that song to a higher plane.

      I like covers like those that don't just blindly duplicate the original, but also don't ruin it either and keeps the core essence there, where you can listen to both versions and enjoy them almost as separate good songs.
