  • Whether it's boxing, Muay Thai kickboxing, karate, taekwondo or any martial arts, be aware of these rules:
    NUMBER ONE
Keep it technical. Focus on technique rather than brute force. Sparring is about improving skills, not proving dominance.
    NUMBER TWO
Communication is key. Sometimes it's better to discuss what you want to work on in sparring beforehand rather than assuming. It may lead to unnecessary problems.
    NUMBER THREE
Know your partner's skill level. Adjust your intensity and techniques based on your partner. Avoid using advanced or risky moves with beginners. This could easily lead to a knockdown or knockout.
    NUMBER FOUR
Control your strikes. Maintain control over your strikes to avoid unnecessary injury to you or your partner. Pulling your strikes is crucial especially if you're sparring with less-experienced partners.
    NUMBER FIVE
Stay within the rules. Don't fight dirty, abide by the rules and don't let your emotions get to you. Soccer-kicking your partner in the head is not part of the rules.
    NUMBER SIX
Stay Humble. Regardless of skill level, approach sparring with humility. Everyone is there to learn and improve and ego has no place in effective sparring. In sparring you're there to develop your skills, and amateur and professional fighters may turn it up a notch based on their experience.

    Nice. Subscribed.
Recently sparred with some guys in my gym. Went a round with the guy before in the past and it was pretty heavy. He was doing it again this second time so I stopped half way and said woah. This is way to hard for my liking I gotta go to work after. Are you able to tone it down a notch or I'm getting out of this ring.
He was really apologetic and we had a great 2 more rounds after that. We both pulled punches etc after that. If he hadn't I probably would If put him on my do not spar list.
