Rajdeep you are no were near to Gurumurthy & his excellence. You are fortunate you are talking to such a great person. Rajdeep you come from a background who has half knowledge & proclaim to know everything and on the other hand Gurumurthy is a person who is Master in whatever he says and talks and very few can challenge him & even Subramaniam Swamy is very careful when he talks before Gurumurthy. I really admire & salute Gurumurthy for his knowledge and excellence.

Thia is what I would call as De-Colonizing India's cultural, historic and religious life. Our history is very very long and as such cannot be ignored. I am glad finally somebody has started to talk about this very important need of free India. So far we are free in name only. We are living lives in ways devised by foreigners who knew little about us.

My grand father visited the same city once in 5 or 10 years. This HURTS me most. Where are we going? Modern economy create a dream in child to go to some city and realise. He accepted in his speech that the Demonetisation failed the purpose because some people "confidential cell" allowed that black money holders to get way.
He is probably the master mind behind majority of the evonomic policy inputs. But the current economic scenario of our country is not looking that great. I think he must take some responsibility for that also. He blames the RBI , Finance Ministry for not communicating among themselves regarding ID scheme and MUDRA. also Demonetisation led to a dive in employment figures and the slowing of the economy.
He may be an astute accountant and keeps talking for bottom to up approach which is also motto / approach of the NITI Aayog., but the facts say his policy inputs are not inimical to corruption neither are so robust and there seems to be a lacking of consensus even in the finance ministry and RBI. I m really sceptical about him being the brain behind further policy initiatives with disregards many other aspects of a society.

Mr. S Gurumurthy is making so much sense in his answers and his supporting with research. Financial knowledge should be given to Indians from 5th standard onwards. We must make every Indian aware of savings, investments and digital economy which will generate enough revenue to govt so that developmental activities should take place faster in the country. Socialism means a state which can implement public ownership of production, distribution to satisfy human needs irrespective of profit as the USSR was.

Mr Gurumurthy is right, earlier property price was going up because of no reason and only handful of corrupt or who already have money were deriving that. Now it is more close to real and even common man can think buying some property.
Also liberals talk about job lose in actual it was poor who get most benefited from demonetisation as they became kind of way for the riches with illegal hoarded money to get there money saved (by telling themto stand in bank queue for them).
I think these so called liberals who just have stayed in Tier1 or 2 cities in there lives never understand what actually is happening small towns or villages.

This session is an excellent example of a study in contrasts. At one end we have S Gurumurthyji's very erudite talk with facts and compelling logic. He makes the case that we do not recognize and nurture the unique Indian Entrepreneurship model but rather we blindly ape the West. He traces the history of arrogant UN/ World Bank resolutions of 50s hectoring the developing nations on need to fall in line and follow the Western prescription and now they sheepishly admit that there is no one size fit all model but each country has to develop a model suited to it.
There is do much of data and references in the scholarly talk of Gurumurthyji, a very fascinating exposition.
At the other end of the spectrum is the usual Lutyen's suspect, Rajdeep Sardesai - who comes across as crass, patronizing, boorish and virtually sneering at the excellent talk of Gurumurthyji. The fellow is evidently out of his depths and he tries to cover up his ignorance by asking a loaded and irrelevant question, basically to please his political patrons, and on this too Gurumuthyji gently takes him to the cleaners.

    I absolutely agree with Mr
Gurumurthy where he says "Indian economy would've collapsed without demonetization".
In fact what would've happened was:
    1) "trust" in currency and sovereign bonds evaporating overnight
    2) first step triggers a bank run
    3) this contributes to a self-fulfilling prophecy of further bank run, collapse of currency.
    4) currency run would be controlled only by a massive spike in short term/overnight interest rates (entire yield curve would spike, in India's case)
    5) at overnight rate of anywhere > 8-10% is big enough to collapse asset-prices, business funding and cash-velocity!
    6) a prolonged depression.
-- demonetization averted all that, but there's more coming, post elections.

In this debate, Rajdeep is using "Bandwagon fallacy" - a not so uncommon tactic used to mock and discredit ideas without referring to the ideas themselves.
Twice he asks Gurumurthy: "Do you seriously believe that....". That's like implying that this idea of swadeshi is so off the mark that I can't believe we are even discussing it. Notice that Rajdeep does not say what is wrong with it and why. He just wants to portray Gurumurthy as a kook.
What do they teach in journalism school nowadays?
