I thought you might like a look at this awesome 1969 Ford Cobra. This mean looking fastback muscle car is powered by a balanced and blueprinted 428 Super Cobra Jet V8, equipped with forged pistons, Comp cam, MSD Distributor, and an Edelbrock RPM intake. All that power is being sent through a built C6 automatic, back to a 9 inch rear with 3.91 Gears, Moser 31 spline axles, and Trac lok. This car has also been upgraded with Wilwood Disc brakes at all four wheels and numerous suspension mods as well. I hope you find it interesting...thanks for taking a look!

I feel your pain Tom. I bought a '69 GT CJ, with the drag pack, 4 speed from the local Ford dealer. Took it to Germany on my first Army assignment. Sold it after returning from Vietnam.....BIG MISTAKE!

Ford made some of the best looking and fastest cars back then
      F. First
      O. On
      R. Race
      D. Day
And I know about the other meanings of Ford.
But Ford was one to beat on the tracks.

My best friend bought a 69' Torino Cobra back in my high school days. This was 1973 & the owner had been killed in Vietnam. Pure stock, with the 428/C6 combo & 19,000 miles. I got to drive it a lot..it was a beast..3200 lbs

Contrary to belief the Ford 428 CJ actually put out 428hp according to a Ford tech that worked on the factory Dyno at Ford back in the late 60s early 70s. An old friend of mine had a 67 Shelby GT500 with the 428 Police Interceptor with 2x4 carbs from the factory. It was rated at 365 hp. When he was in his last year of High school the auto class put it on the Dyno. It was stove sock and reached a peak of 455 hp at 5800 rpms.

This is Ford's first real mid sized muscle car. They had the 427 Fairlanes/Comets in 66-67 but they were meant more for NHRA Super Stock Drag Racing than everyday street use. The 428CJ/SCJ had way better street manners than the raucous, race bred R-Code 427

@Anthony Testa Yeah, it looks awful with those black race seats while everything else looks almost bone stock; I say the same for the terrible looking, pointless, giant RPM gauge, also the idiotic and equally pointless center gauge pod. The MSD ignition box being mounted on the passenger floor was also a fucking retarded decision, like why not move it to a place not directly in the way of people's feet? The guy that owned it definitely was a retarded twat. I hope the person that bought it from this car lot restored it correctly and nicely like it deserves.

Man I really miss my 1968-1/2 Torino CJ equipped similarly with 4 discs but intake was a offy cross ram with progressive dual mechanical secondaries carbs and dual spark, intake from outside engine in front. Go like hell. Have a 2014 Mustang now and would trade back real fast. Even tho my 'stang would wax it on a course, and also on a pull, after the 'stang recovered the lost launch distance. 11-1/2 M&H racemasters allowed hookup. Quad shocks and stiffeners.
CHP was nice to me once coming in from Nev. I still hear the sound in my mind....the Hughes 500 was having trouble keeping up.
Older, wiser, (maybe) and a lot poorer, I enjoy these vids, so thank you very much! (from a 70 year-old kid)

my brother had one in 1970- . Worked on it all the time. Top Speed at 6,000rpm (redline was 5,200) 120 mph with the 3.91 tractionLoc. 3,500 rpm = 70mph. 4 Speed, added hurst shifter because got tired of missing 3rd in the stock Ford. The Carb was a dual line double pumper with very sensitive throttle response. No need to hold the brakes to do a great burnout, just pop the clutch at 3,000 and massage it a little and lay 2 100 foot tracks... and would smoke all 4 gears, and I don't mean a "chirp" in 4th gear either. But of course it handled like a pig, or more like a motorboat which was par for that era. Straight line beast tho... lots of fun, but at 9mpg it strained the wallet even in 1971! Toughest competitor was a Buick GranSport 455 automatic because he floored it off the line and I didn't. Lots of memories!

I had one of these in the mid 70's a REAL one. Cost me 780 bucks used with 68K miles on it no rust or dents. It's called a Ford Fairlane 500 Sportsroof 428 Cobra Jet - NOT a Torino. I had the scoop with cold air package, 4 speed toploader and 9" rear. My Chevelle bought a little later was much stronger. The Ford constantly broke something big and costly in "sprited " driving.

It was red with black base interior ( bench seat and column shift ) it had a C6 with a 3.25 limited slip dig . At Lions drag strip it ran a 13.93 - 103 mph shifting into 3rd as you were going through the lights ! Loved the car !…….

actually if it's about the quarter mile you're better off with a 4 or a 5, so you hit 60+ in second gear. more gear changes mean less time wide open.
5th and 6th would act as OD gears.

ComureL: There is no such thing as a T-10 toploader! You are combining borg/warner and a ford trans into one :) But i do agree that the MT is more fun. I had one of these, a REAL one. Its called a Ford Fairlane 500 Sportsroof Cobra Jet - NOT a Torino. But The Ford cobra jet was not strong enough for me and my friend's teenage hijinks with major parts constantly breaking on the car. . Now, the ' 67 Chevelle SS 396 w/ M21 and 12 bolt we bought a couple years later was a monster and unbreakable. All bought under 800 bucks in the mid 70's with no rust and just a little mechanical work needed. - Sandy

It's incredible that we were driving 400 hp cars about the time we were getting good at shaving. And they were SO inexpensive when a couple of years old. I had a 69 Cougar with a 428. All black, and the 428 was so rare that nobody expected it to be that fast. People thought I'd glued the hood scoop on.. but i hadn't.

Without the hood pins and scoop and the wheels, that would be one bad ass sleeper.
