I have a Porter Cable professional RO buffer for my cars. Using a stiff buffing pad and rubbing compound removed years of buildup from my shower pan, and made my shower glass crystal clear. Yes, the glass was hard enough to not scratch. I put RainX on the glass, and plan to keep doing that after every time I clean the glass with Windex. Water beads off the glass, leaving no spots.

Soap scum is best cleaned with an acid - based on the actual chemist of it. Bar Keepers Friend contains oxalic acid - great for scum. Biggest mistake most make - let cleaners sit for a time to work! Best to rinse down with dish soap and water in a spray bottle, quick spray, wipe and rinse weekly or 2-3 days depending on shower use...Don't let scum harden and calcify with hard water. Remember we drink the water we rinse down the drain, lets try to keep cleaners safe and non toxic

I have found that Bar Keepers Friend will clean scum, mold, and the hard water stains on the shower floor. It's one of our favorite cleaners. I haven't tried simple dish soap for the soap scum. Everyone seems to have a pet formula for this purpose, like spraying with vinegar or even a Boraxo solution. Thanks for watching.

Soap scum dose not need an acid based cleaner to be removed.
Soap scum is nothing more than body oils and fats combined with the cleaning soaps that one uses every day.
Firstly bar or cake soaps contain caustic soda, which is what?. It's a harsh cleaner in its self.
This emusified scum hardens on your shower screens and walls.
The best way is to use another liquid cleaner which is naturally made and neutral based.
Simply dilute it to the recommended streath and apply to the areas.
You can use as this gentleman shows a power tool to agitate the areas. This combined with the fresh cleaning solution is then rinsed off with clean fresh water. I use the shower rose on jet to do this.
Power tools are not necessary, but do have obvious benefits as in much quicker, but a non-Scratch scour will do the job just as well.
When using a battery power you still need to use goggles as you will get a lot of splash back.
As for calcium /hard water deposit you will need the correct cleaning solutions to remove that condition.
See how I do this task at showerscreencleaning.com.au
      Happy cleaning

Just an easier tip. 2/3 water and 1/3 chlorine. Make sure you have adequate ventilation. Spray it all over the shower tile or bathtub for about 5 minutes then rinse it with water thoroughly using a shower sprayer or a bucket and watch magic happen without any effort. If you have a stubborn stain or mold you can do it a second time using a brush after you spray it, then spray it aging after brushing and wait 5 minutes. If you use this method weekly you will never need to use a brush or see any stains or mold again.

Thanks for the great tips! Thought you might like to test my go-to all-purpose cleaner:
    Miracle Cleaner
    Makes 1 gallon
2 cups just very hot water (needs to be hot enough to dissolve the washing soda but not hot enough to melt the plastic jug)
    ~11 cups water (from faucet)
4 Tb washing soda (Arm & Hammer product found in laundry aisle)
    1 cup vinegar
½ cup Dawn dish soap (old fashioned blue Dawn)
~10 tsp eucalyptus essential oil (about half a 5mL bottle)
Put washing soda in jug. Add super hot water and swish or shake until it dissolves. Add vinegar, and then add enough water from the faucet to almost fill the jug, leaving enough room for the dish soap and room for it to get mixed up. Add essential oil, and then add dish soap last. Put the lid on tight and roll gently on countertop or floor to mix it without making it sudsy.
For diluting in a spray bottle, I do about 1:4 miracle cleaner to water, and go stronger as needed. It works better to put water from faucet in bottle first and then add the miracle cleaner to keep suds from pouring out of the top of the bottle.

I think I'm going to use a grout sealer to deprive the mold of moisture and then I can probably use a cleaner that makes less fumes than these products do. I may even make a video about it. So far the chucks are all still tight, there has been no significant fraying, and they have basically held their shape. Of course, I would expect them to wear out eventually because of the friction generated between the bristles & the tile. Plus they were inexpensive, so they have met my expectations. But you can tell how it goes by reading those reviews. Some people have really good luck with a product and others have nothing but problems. Quality control is often inconsistent. Hope this helps.

Hi, for chemical cleaning, Bar Keepers Friend is quite effective. It's active ingredient is oxalic acid.
There are also heavy duty acid-based cleaning liquids available at hardware stores. My apartment maintenance guy put me on to these and showed me how effective they are when he knocked out long-standing sink grime in no time which I hadn't been able to get off with repeated normal cleaning/scrubbing.
I don't know how much difference there is between Bar Keepers Friend and these industrial cleaning solutions... Bar Keepers Friend is pretty damn powerful for a common product. (I hadn't tried it in the above example of sink grime. I did consequently and it's very effective as well.)
Straight white vinegar also works like these two, it is just a much weaker acid so it doesn't have the same muscle.
These acids are effective in cleaning the build-up in bathroom areas, which are made up largely of mineral deposits from the water. They work better than their alkaline counterparts like bleach etc.
"Acidic cleaners are best for removing mineral deposits, rust stains or discolouration from copper and other metals. Alkaline cleaners (bleach, baking/washing soda, etc.), by contrast, are especially good at breaking down fatty or oily deposits, which is why many laundry detergents are alkaline, or basic."

      @deerparkhomeshop2471  Před 2 lety

I have used vinegar/baking soda combo and many folks swear by this treatment, and the bleach gel toliet bowl cleaner works great on the mold and mildew. I was leery about using stronger acidic cleaners because I wasn't sure how they would affect the tile and grout. I am assuming from your comments that this is not a problem. I am interested in the Barkeepers friend for my next cleaning, but haven't found it locally, so I will probably have to go the Amazon route. Anyway, thanks a bunch for all of the good information, and thanks for watching my video.

@@deerparkhomeshop2471 Hi, the baking soda/vinegar combo is a head-scratcher, as mixing the two basically creates saltwater. They cancel each other out chemically, yet this combination has been widely recommended online for years.
Bar Keepers Friend is a beast, and should be fine on tile and grout when used as instructed. You should be able to find it locally at Walmart, Target, hardware stores, etc.
The acidic cleaner my maintenance guy showed me was Zep Acidic Toilet Bowl Cleaner. It has hydrochloric acid in it, which makes it brilliant for removing hard water/mineral deposits. It's probably a bit stronger on its own than Bar Keepers Friend. I'm not sure about its applicability for tile and grout. It's probably overkill for one, and perhaps not recommended for regular use. Great for stubborn issues though. My maintenance guy uses it as a general bathroom cleaner (for one-off use), because it can knock out tough issues and build up immediately used with a scrub pad.
Next level up, you've got muriatic acid (also available from the hardware store like the Zep). This is used to clean swimming pools, mineral deposits off of concrete, etc. It's basically just a more concentrated hydrochloric acid than the Zep. Will meltdown bathroom/toilet hard water stains & mineral deposits on contact lol

My apologies, I somehow missed your question when it was first posted. I assume you mean the power drill quick connect adapter. These are available at home building centers, tool stores, and on-line. I didn't realize until I read your comment that I had not included a link for it, so I have now added one to the video description. I don't know your experience level, so forgive me if I over explain. First, you can chuck up the cleaning brush directly on the drill without using the adapter. The adapter just makes brush changes quicker. There are several types of these, and I like the ones with a sliding sleeve that locks the brush securely in place. Also, they only work with bits and brushes that have hex (not round) shanks. I should have explained this in the video.

Once you have showered rinse the shower down with hot water whilst you are in there then dry down with your used towel once your finished drying yourself. Towel in washing machine to be laundered. It really does cut down on build up.

You are absolutely right. My wife has always insisted that we do this every day and it seems that we don't have to clean with the brushes as often. However, I asked her to stop doing so for now. I'm actually encouraging build up so that I can test different cleaners my viewers have recommended. Needless to say, she is very uncomfortable with this. I should have a new shower cleaning video coming out in a month or two. She swears that it will be the last.....but we'll see.

The baking soda is neutralizing the acid in the vinegar and lemon juice. Seems to defeat the purpose of including those acidic ingredients.

We got the recipe from the web, a never ending source of misinformation. Others have pointed out the problems with this recipe as well. I am still experimenting with different products and will be releasing a follow up video with my findings. Be sure to watch for it. Thanks for watching.

definitely knocks it down a bit but doesn't completely neutralize since it's not super alkaline. 1-5 (or 10) water to muriatic acid would break this down easily with little elbow grease required but you definitely couldn't do it barefoot.

@@deerparkhomeshop2471 It's pretty nasty stuff. Don't use it unless you have to. Follow the instructions carefully. Slowly and carefully pour the acid into the water. Never add water to acid, as an exothermic reaction will occur, propelling the acid out of the container and onto you.
Never pour muriatic acid into an empty vessel. Fill the container with the right amount of water before adding the acid.
Never mix muriatic acid with other acids.
Only mix muriatic acid in a glass or acid-resistant plastic container.
Always store muriatic acid in the container it came in.
Keep a supply of baking soda or garden lime nearby in case you need to quickly neutralize muriatic acid. While sprinkling these substances full-strength will work, the best plan is to mix ½ cup of baking soda and a quart of water in a sealed spray bottle and keep it nearby.
