      I thought exactly the same thing! I dislike videos where the person insists on telling us their life story before finally getting to the content we came to get. This video was a breath of fresh air in that regard, and the Rain-x idea is tremendous. I am heading out to buy these materials today so I can clean my shower stall glass.

    • @pacldawson
      @pacldawson Před rokem +4

      Incidentally, I followed his instructions and it worked perfectly. I used Rain-X after cleaning, and the results are amazing. We have had zero issues with soap scum or hard water build-up on our glass shower stall. We squeegie at the end of each shower and the stall looks as though it was just freshly cleaned. I'll be reapplying Rain-X periodically to make sure it keeps repelling water. This video was the most useful thing I've watched on CZcams in months. Thanks again for making it!

    I put about 2 tablespoons of JetDry (dishwasher anti-spotting fluid) into a quart size spray bottle filled with distilled water. After showering, I lightly spray glass and metal fixtures. I haven’t used my squeegee since doing that. It gradually even cleans off the old water spots. Super easy and very effective. No scrubbing or wiping down. The JetDry makes the water run off and it drys with no spotting.

      @mooncake5579 Před rokem +21

      @@mooncake5579 Even if you don’t clean the glass first, you will notice that the water spots start noticeably going away the first time you use it. Once the glass is clear, I find that I only need to spray it about once every 3 showers.

      @gobbletegook Před rokem +9

      I use it just like that as well when I clean my aluminum blinds. I mount them on a piece of plywood in the backyard and after a light scrub, I apply the jet dry spray. They dry in minutes.

    Thank you for this video! So glad I found it! It was very precise and straight forward. May I ask for tips on how to clean the shower door strips/seal that are located on the side where the glass door attaches to the wall? There are also strips in between the glass wall and the glass door as well as the bottom part where the door meets the tile. An old toothbrush can’t seem to reach the space in between as it’s very tight/flushed.

    I like that rain X idea. Definitely going to try that after I get my shower doors cleaned. But they’re putting up a fight. I’m cleaning a house that has not seriously clean their shower doors for 25 years. And the hard water stains that I’ve built up have created a solid shade of white over the whole glass. I’ve been using 75% vinegar soaked on paper towels to let it sit and leave it. It’s gotten most of it off but it’s taking me three days so far just to get all of that off it’s just layer after layer. But I’m definitely gonna keep plugging away at it. It’s worth it.

  • @donnaallgaier-lamberti3933

    I find that wiping my glass doors after each shower also helps with the back up. I use a mixture of vinegar and water as a spray as well. Then every few minutes I use a razor blade in a bix cutter to gently scrape the areas with any scum build up. This has worked for me. I never thought of steel wool or rain-X. What a great tip!

    • @jbgrooves
      @jbgrooves Před rokem

      Applying rain-x would be hard work and a bit dangerous putting enough pressure on glass doors to buff of the rain-z once it dries. Someone suggested 2 tablespoons jet-dry in a quart of distilled water, sprayed on after showering, no squeegee needed.

      I do the same but I use a Chamois Leather cloth first, this way most of the water is squeezed down the drain and the towel is almost dry when I am finished. Glass shower still looks new after many years. Also I don't hang a damp towel in the bathroom, I put it out to dry first, I think this cuts down on mildew in the bathroom. I live in a very humid climate.

    I have a shower glass that is coated with some special hydrophobic/oleophobic coating. I had always squeegeed the glass once a week which was always all that was needed. Whatever the coating is, it seems to be as durable as smartphone hydrophobic/oleophobic coatings and better than rains or ceramic coatings.
    I hadn’t live there in months while another family member lived there and they did zero cleaning on the glass. Unfortunately the water spots won’t go away with any method not using steel wool. Would the steel wool be able to remove the water spots without damaging the coating?
