I've recently had my first tattoo at 51, I told the artist generally what I was looking for, and told him to basically do whatever he wanted, ended up with being a knee to ankle "sleeve"
I've started on my arm now, telling the artist that the intention is a sleeve from shoulder to wrist, gave him a few pictures of what I was interested in having, but also told him he had complete artistic control over what he put on my skin. And so far I'm loving what he's doing.
The healing has been weird, I've taken care of my tattoos exactly the same, some scabbed pretty heavy, some barley scabbed at all, almost like sunburn peeling.
I'm a pretty talkative and social person, and it feels so weird being so close to someone for 4 hour sessions are barely speaking a word.
I do have a medial condition, where sometimes different muscles spasm uncontrollably for a few seconds, now as soon as I sit in the chair I warn the artist it might happen and he's cool with it, I forgot to mention it the very first time and he got a bit funny with me for moving, but once I explained he was cool with it, think it just caught him un awares.

The lack of talking is why I LOVE my artist. We chat a little bit before and after but during the work it's blissful silence and just listening to the machine.

Got my first tat a week ago on the ribs pretty big detailed piece too. 20 yrs old and sat thru 7 hours on my first sesh on my ribs and the pain was bad. Worst was where the rib cage ended and lower stomach started, lower right side of my stomach\ab area was a terrible pain way worse than ribs and was the only time I was letting out a little groan or made a face. It’s hard it sucks sometimes but pain is temporary u got to remember as soon as they stop for a sec that u just have to go thru what u already went thru and that u went thru it already shows u can do it again. I was told I’d never make it starting w a big piece on ribs, another driving factor is how bad u want it, I wanted to prove them wrong, and I never had a tatto and found a tattoo I wanted and never so sure of it after never being able to come to a decision before. It came out way better than I could’ve hoped and am glad I pushed thru it and hope that I’ll be able to handle any other ones I get after going thru the ribs as my first.

For the hygiene part: At my dads shop years ago, he would have travel deodorants. He would just say “Use this, you stink.” I don’t think you can get away with that now a days. lol.

i got half sleeve done 2 weeks to 11 days ago from the 24th of January to 26th of January yesterday being the 5th meaning i got them a little less and over 2 weeks ago.........my artist told me to come in the room with me and said they they a little blurry because of dead skin so he went a head and grabbed my arm and sprayed a bunch of water and scented soup mixture on my arm and scrubbed the flaking skin off and i was pissed and told him that your not suppose to do this! i went home and it dried and i noticed missing ink and fading in my tattoos can this be fixed ? or should i consult legal action for ruining my tattoos? am i over reacting?

Great piece Daniel. I have been tattooing people for 15 years now and my biggest no-no is I have always refused to ink people from the neck up. No negotiating. My community always thank me for that.
Tipping is such an awkward part for me for tattoos. I have no idea what to give..i usually give like 40$, but i' always like...is that good, or is that cheap? Lol
do not use second skin unless you are going to 100% be working on your feet for a 6+ hour shift

Oh man yes, I goir bailed on my first tattoo THREE times. We had an arrangement I would be tattooed somewhere private instead of in the shop where all people pass by and look in due to my urostomy. Then the guy says untly (before he knew my reason) " if you don't want to show off the Tattoo then don't get one". Wtf? Maybe I have it for my own reasons? But anyway, my reason was deemed ok. I was GUARANTEED this every time. Until I got there. The shop still had to be set up as it was right after opening so I thought they were helping eachother out. What the heck do I know. And then the artist says he's ready for me. Uhm dude what? We would be going upstairs? They didn't know anything about that. They yried to persuade me with a screen that didn't even cover half or the chair but I said "No. Either we're going upstairs like I was promised or I want my pre-papyment back and go somewhere else." With a big sigh of what was clearly being annoyed, they finally took me upstairs and asked "why didn't you soeak out sooner?" Yeah well like I said, I had no odea each artists was setting up for their own clients as this was my first time in a shop ever (well apart from seeing their work and making the appointment) so I thought they helped eachother set up. 😰

Would it be weird if I asked my local tattoo shop if I could come in and watch someone being tattooed?
I’ve been really scared about getting my first one done.
I feel of I can go and watch the process it will help me to get my own one done.
I’m scared of needles, and I usually pass out at the sight of them touching skin,
My understanding is this doesn’t penetrate the flesh and only vibrates pretty much on the surface,
The videos don’t have the same effect as being in there while being done,

Just contact them and tell them about your problem. They will probably invite you in for a chat, and maybe you can do a tiny tattoo somewhere hidden to test it out?

I've seen a guy on CZcams that has a red velvet over his blackout. Looks incredible. Has taken 3 red sessions though so a lot of work & time.
Maybe explore something other than white.

hello, i want to get my daughter's name on my wrist. i like the font Ultra Condensed on DaFont. Can you tell me if that's a bad idea? I hear tattoos will expand so you can't have letters close together, is that true? However, I see other people with cute little name tattoos that are very small. Not sure if that just means their tattoo will look bad over time.

You might have to talk to your tattoo artist about it, but every one tells that it will stretch and smudge together if it’s to small over time

You missed one! DONT SLANDER OTHER TATTOOIST FOR USING YOUR WORK AS A REFERENCE, THIS IS SOMETHING YOU DO ALOT!, as you know full well you don't draw all your shit freehand as you use reference.
1. Tatoo-artists. Please stay with the full proper name.
2. Other Tatoo-artists don' t use him as reference but straight up try to COPY his work. If they used his work as reference they would have taken the idea and brought their own creative twist to it. For example with an individual pose or some different details. Maybe a different style etc. Yet they didn't and that is Copying and nothing that should be respected.
It, by the way, isn't respected nor tolerated in the WHOLE artcommunity which includes tatoo-artists.
