- Many of us have full confidence in the forehand return and dread when they start targeting our backhand. In this video I give a full breakdown of how to comfortably and reliably make backhand returns and stay out of trouble at the same time. HAVE FUN😁
Coach, your tips are never one minute 😊, but it’s perfect 👍. I learn a lot, thank you !
The request are so specific that I can't 😅
I've watched this video few times especially when I'm about to go play a match. it's given me a structure of how to approach my backhand returns. Very helpful. thanks a bunch.
That great to hear 👏 hope it continues to help out
Another GEM of an advice!
I'll keep trying to help as much as I can
Great tip..and how to progress on backhand returns..
Thank you I hope it helps 😁
As always great content very easily explained and right to the point no nonsense
Great stuff, Coach. 👊
Many thanks for the advices and pointers Will, this content is gold 👍.
Happy to help and I'm glad you're enjoying😁 You are welcome
I always thought the full swing 1hbh cross-court return is the hardest stroke to master; especially in double! (I know, I am not ATP level 😂).
Which comes for me to suggest as part II; if I may, for you to provide a demonstration of that, it would be a delight. And I am pretty sure it would be an instant hit as you’d be the first (and a rare coach capable) to provide that teaching!
All the best!
Great video and very well explained
great idea, "one minute clinic" the short and to the point is great. this was a good video.
Thank you, I try to keep them concise so that they are easy to absorb and practice
one of my many problems is getting out of way of body serves. The first issue is deciding to take it with a backhand or forehand, and then deciding whether it's better to keep moving forward, slide sideways or try to take a step back to create more time for the return. Thanks for any help. Your videos are the best I've seen online: very good explanations with effective demos. Thanks.
Great tips
I love your channel. Very concise and to the point. Your tactical content is what youtube needs more of, not these videos that break down the smallest technical details with slow motion videos of the pro.
Greatly appreciated 🙏
Always good, great job!
Big thank you 🙏🙏 hope it was helpful 😁
I found gold. This is really great. Keep up the good work. You can be the next intuitive tennis
I'd love to help 200k people at once, that would be awesome thanks
What an awesome lesson. 😂 Those returns are beautiful solid as steel. Knowing what to look expect from is one step ahead of the game. Great coaching.
Hope it helps a little, and thanks for the compliment on my returns 😁
@@ironwilltennis As always, I always shared anything that help me and my playmates the knowledges the skills that you had shares. They all agreed Will the real deal is the man respected on the court. Coach you must be at least 5.0 level player.
@davdmoi thank you, im happy to have you belief. It doesn't go unappreciated. I have time, people try to recruit me into their 5.0 leagues lol 😆 but I have a few 5.5 partners that I train with. That level is tough to find
Your input is top-knotch in every way, just wanted to say. Tennis is the best!!!!!! :)
Thank you for the compliment and I agree tennis is great😁
Great lesson.that’s
Nice tips - keep it in first and improve while playing game. Will practice in my next game! Thanks and appreciate that Will!
It's proven to work for many of my students😁 just passing it along to everyone else. I hope it helps 🙏
Thanks for great tips. This is actually how I return, but even closer to service line and more of deflection., both first and second serves. Good to know that this works at higher level that you’re at.
It's all about have a framework to adjust. Winging it is what gets people in trouble
Excellent, actionable ideas.
thank you hope they help
well done and great explanation. i liked your point about building up to a drive backhand
Thank you 😁 it all depends on how your feeling and how the person is serving that day
Super excellent lesson! Thanks
My pleasure!
Pure gold content 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you😁 hope it's helpful
outstanding
Thank you🙏🙏
Thanks, good 👍🏼 info!!
Hope it helps you out 👍
Super practical tips!
Happy you got something from it 😁
I think your technique is very good. And it’s very easy to learn. Good lessons!
Thank you for the compliment 😁 I hope the video was able to help a little
I really needed this for my backhand return. Excellent tips coach🔥🔥🔥. Just implemented the chip today and it brought me confidence already. Can’t wait to utilize all of the tips to improve my game.
I'm happy you are getting so much help from the videos I'm putting out.
I really like the idea of a progression when playing a match: chip, slice, block, swing. A bit like your previous video about strategy, it's a nice game plan to have as a returner. Regarding the backhand: could you do a video about handing high 1H backhands? Maybe something that combines the "mental image" that we should have hitting that high backhand combined with the specific technique? Thanks for your awesome but easy to digest content.
I can definitely add that to my to do list 😁👍
Great stuff!
Thanks! Hope it helps
Thanks
Very welcome 🫡
Great tips!
Thank you 😁 hope it helps 👍
I could watch another minute of just the chip and slice returns :) Thanks.
I'll definitely bring them back in another video
Awesome lesson coach. Thanks for going the extra mile and including all the small details!
This is a bit on a tangent, but could you add a lesson on how to defend balls that are hit to my one handed backhand with great depth with pace and/or spin?
Between returns with the one handed backhand and playing defense, its made me want to switch back to a 2hbh, but hitting clean one handers feels so good. 😭
Will try this out in some practice matches this weekend. :)
I can add in a few details I'm another video😁👍
Man - again a sweet lesson from you. Great content. You have this ability to bring it to a simple point.
BTW - just now sent you a comment based on what you think it the single most important element for the single handed backhand to work well. I am not talking return here but in general. My answer to it would be contact point and getting underneath the ball. But like to hear what your view on it is.
Thank you for the compliment, I'm glad you are getting something from the videos. I did comment back on your original question as well 👍
@@ironwilltennis Just saw - much appreciated. Thanks
Thx bro
Very welcome 😁
great
Thank you hope it was helpful
🔥
Although this was 8+ minutes, it had such a high signal to noise ratio. Excellent coaching!!
Thank you for the compliment😁 hope it helped a little
So good
Big thank you 😁 hope it helps
Hi coach great lesson ! Quick question - is that a Yonex vcore 98 v7 you are using? I use a blade v8 98 16x19 and was thinking whether a more stable feeling racquet will be better for me, i have a one hander and want to build up by returns as a sharp offensive return. I will of course demo several racquets, just wanted to know your thoughts on this one.
This is actually the 95
2:19 - Short swing backhand return
3:29 - Determine where to best position yourself
4:36 - Demonstration of chip, slice, short swing & full swing returns
Thanks Will, backhand return is definitely my biggest weakness, and definitely learn a lot from this video.
Got a question on your racquet tho, I am using the Vcore 95 2023, is it the same racquet you got? I find it not too stable with doing return, I am just wondering do you customise your racquet in any way? I am thinking of adding leads on 3 and 9 o'clock, but not sure what weight I should put on. If you have similar customisation, I might start with yours for an easy start.
yes I was using the vcore 95 in this video. I was using the previous generation though. but yes I found the same issue. and I did 2 modifications. 1 I added a leather grip which does and some weight to the handle but also gives a more locked in grip in my opinion. and I added a very specific lead tape. which I'll send you the link for. these are a little heavier but they are uniform weight so it is easy to repeat on another racquet if you like

@@ironwilltennis Thanks Will for taking the time to reply and sharing these useful information. Ill give them a try. Please keep up the good work on these great videos, I have watched most of them and benefit a lot!
@@alsonyang2991 I do it for you guys😁
Thanks, Will. What’s your opinion about ideal or optimal grip in ready position while returning a serve?
Interesting 🤔
My opinion is wait continental or favor your weak side. So wait in your backhand grip if your forehand is better
You can train a same grip for both sides...
100% tips accuracy 👍🏽
Thank you 😁 hope it helps
Great video. Does your ready grip stay continental with quick switch to bh grip?
If it's a bigger server then yes, if not then I'll wait forehand grip
Is this done all in continental grip??
I’m going to adopt your strategy of blocking, slicing, then full top spin swings, but I’m not gonna give you a credit for it… I’m gonna totally pretend like it was my idea if anybody asks and I originated it. ;)
Solid👌 no credit needed lol 😆
Can you provide some insights on a backhand return from the deuce side.I have a problem in doubles where the return always goes toward the net person. Should I position myself more on an angle at the right corner of the baseline?
I tend to angle myself a bit to help with movement towards the ball but I can for sure ad this topic into a video
👍
Thank you 😁
Great lesson coach. That definitely helps. Thx. Question, where are you located? (State)
You're welcome hope it's useful for you😁 Pennsylvania BTW
@@ironwilltennis ok. Too bad. Little too far to travel for lessons 😉👍. I'm in Arizona...
@@benjamins15779 I plan on doing some traveling on my channel, I'll post details when I'm in a state near you
@@ironwilltennis While we are at it - should you ever consider Asia - visit Singapore. Can do a clinic here too ;-)

What about if they're right handed and serving, and we're left handed and receiving?
I will track down a lefty student just for you and do a reverse demo of a few things
Serves pls
What would you like 😁
