    My cat did well on the raw diet, but not the raw meaty bone section. Since I can’t provide a balanced raw diet without the raw meaty bone, I’m feeding him a high quality wet cat food with chunks of raw as a snack 2-3 times a week I usually give him chicken breast, chicken heart, beef kidneys and lamb (sometimes herring and salmon or even smelt). Ty for this!

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  Před 3 lety +1

      If early stages, low phosphorus! The goal is to reduce phosphorus by feeding moderate to high fat and moderate amounts of high quality animal protein. Bone needs to be replaced with calcium carbonate or eggshell powder, oily fish need to be replaced with a high quality fish oil, and you should avoid feeding some poultry, as meat like chicken is a bit higher in phosphorus. Cooked egg whites are beneficial to feed as they’re high in protein and low in phosphorus, as well as green tripe. I would also increase fluid intake (adding bone broth or myoglobin to the meal). If they are in the final stages, that is when a "low protein" diet will start to become necessary. Not to slow the KD, but to just make them feel better in the final stages.

    • @dlg.studios5649
      @dlg.studios5649 Před 3 lety +1

      Right now! Kittens (and puppies too) can be fed raw once they’re ready to eat solid food, like you do with kibble/wet food. In fact, this is actually a good approach since you’re introducing the kitten to new tastes, textures, and smells at a young age, which does often make raw feeding easier in the future. She actually has a video about how to get started with raw feeding kittens. Here’s the link:

I'm always looking for ways to improve her diet so this is really helpful, thank you! Unfortunately, even half an egg yolk just once in a while gives my cat runny stool. I have to be really careful with what i feed her, as even more than 2 treats that have fish or organs as an ingredient will also give her runny stool. I used to add DHA to her food and she was fine but eventually it started giving her diarrhea too?? DO NOT feed your cat raw fish! Any non flash frozen fish (especially the fish highlighted at 2:09) can harbor parasites that will upset your cat's digestive tract, and freezing does not destroy denature thiaminase. Cats need their thiamine! If you're going the extra mile, don't undo it all and opt for cooked, unseasoned, deboned oily fish.

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  Před rokem

      All wild caught fish should be frozen for 3-4 weeks before feeding, yes, but this doesn't mean they can't be fed raw at all. Also, only specific mackerel contain thiaminase, and it takes a lot to affect the thiamin in the diet. This is why I preach rotating between different fish and animal proteins. Cooked oily fish are great to feed, but raw should not be demonized.
