In this video, Dusty compares a cheap magnetic resistance trainer up against an expensive, top of the line mag trainer and shows if the expensive one is worth the price. The trainers shown are the Conquer indoor trainer (cheap version) and the top of the line Cycleops Supermagneto Pro.
The cheaper Conquer indoor trainer is a great option if you are someone who is looking for general fitness and wants the ability to ride your bike inside. If you are looking to actually train for something such as a bike race or triathlon, the Cycleops will be a better choice as it offers more resistance and is more user friendly.
I've put 1000's of hours on my Cycleops trainer without any issues and it's my go to indoor trainer.

Good video. Right to the point and I liked the side by side review too.
Really good review and explanation, thanks a lot
What a great video!!! Thanks so much for posting. Very simple, to the point and adequately informative. Just perfect.
Thanks a lot Dusty! :)
Great video Dusty :)
I just purchased a used conquer trainer missing the skewer, and my bike has a skewer not compatible with the trainer, will any quick release steel skewer work in this unit?
That cheaper one would be good for me. I'm not a sport cyclist. I just ride my bicycle for transportation when the weather permits. When the snow flies where I live, it's just too dangerous for me to ride my bike places (poor cycle infrastructure, poor snow and ice clearing, motorists that are even less accommodating of folks on bicycles in the winter, etc). Having the cheap trainer would help me at least keep active through the winter and keep my strength up so that I'm good to go once the snow melts. Plus it'd let me continue to ride my super comfy Dutch omafiets. :)
So that tire mark on the cilinder is after 9 years? It hasn't wear out ,like new
Cool
Hi I am a marathon runner - looking to cross train with some indoor biking using a trainer. I own a single speed bike that I use for commuting to work. Would the Conquer bike trainer provide enough resistance to get a good aerobic workout on a single speed? If not are there any other under 100$ trainers you recommend? thanks!
Hi Rishi, sorry for the late reply. I would choose a Sportneer trainer over the Conquer. Hope that helps!
Is there a way to get more resistance with the Conquer Bike Trainer? I purchased the Conquer and would like more resistance, but would rather not buy a new Bike Trainer. Thanks
Hi Jon, sorry I thought I had replied to this already but I guess not!
Unfortunately, no there is no way to increase resistance. The only thing you can do is to shift into the hardest gear, but even then it may not be enough. I reviewed the Sportneer bike trainer. It's similar to price of the Conquer but offers a bit more resistance. As far as inexpensive trainers go, the Sportneer is much better than the Conquer.
...you can increase the pressure the roller exerts on the tire
If you tighten the roller pressure against the tire it increases resistance, but after doing so for several months I just stripped the nut that the adjustment bolt passes through and am stuck trying to find the replacement. Once I find it I will probably buy a few of them in case it keeps happening.
Can someone tell me what the "magnetic" is, about these trainers ?
A magnetic trainer uses a flywheel with rotating magnets that engage and disengage in order to increase or decrease the amount of resistance placed on the wheel.
