In June 2022, I explored the German supermarket Lidl I am not familiar with this store. I normally shop at Aldi. since June 2022, the prices may vary. Some of the items are more expensive now due the infation .There’s not much of a difference between the small supermarkets each store has different specials each week. I just prefer the supermarket I go all the time because I know exactly where to find what I need but it was cool to see a different store. - Zábava
Those beer prices are insane! Cheaper than bottled water in the US
The average german earns €2200 a month, how much average people earn in US? Prices depends on incomes i think
The packaged baked goods were really cheap too.
You don't get it. In Germany, the Beer QUALITY is insane. Who the f... drinks water? Water, according to the US water industry quality, in Germany comes out of the tap. There is no no need to buy water in bottles. But if they do, every plastic bottle will be recycled.
@@klauskruger6187 majority of people in Germany drinks bottled water... how else are you gonna get SPRUDEL???
Even at the clubs, if you return the bottle or the cap, they will give you another for free.
Stores are different but still very similar. Thank you Mike for showing us how we are all just people, more similar than different. I love when you bring Arnold out😂🤣. I really love you videos!
I live in Northern Ireland, lidl is a 5 min walk away from my house, I don't shop there often as I too get confused with the prices on the top, just love you Channel Mike love seeing Germany, I was there on holiday I think 2007 and fell in love with the beautiful buildings and the culture.
So happy and relieved you and your mom weren't in Turkey! Hope her new apartment is o.k..
Tears for Turkey and Syria, so much devastation.
Stay 💪 Strong Turkey
Hello how are you ?
I'm doing well. How are you?
I used to walk to Lidl from my aunts home in Unterhaching, during our visits from Oklahoma.
did you eat at american burger bar unterhaching
When you get back to California.
You have to do a grocery Store video.
I want to see your reaction on how much everything has gone up since you left.
Hey Mike! Not sure if you are aware but we love your on scene content! Most importantly we love your Mom, secondly the bar downstairs in your home...so very Deutsche! And all your friends too! Makes one want to invade an Aldi's and go crazy in Dusseldorf! Love you brother and hang in there! Cheers and Peace! And Schapps! Guten Flug on ur way back! :)
I was in Lidl's yesterday love shopping in there
Was in Garmisch-Partenkirchen last week and was in a Lidl. Was not bad, Aldi seemed to be better. Germany was such a wonderful place to visit. I already miss it and the food!
I appreciate you, thank you for making content.
I enjoyed the video, it felt like I was there with you. Awesome to see stores in other countries.
Your grocery store videos are always interesting. I love Lidl and Aldi, we have both in the UK, sometimes right next to each other! Can't beat the prices. About 15 years ago when they started getting more popular here, they had a bit of a bad reputation with expiry dates and food that was beginning to go bad. They changed that around quite a long time ago, but sometimes you don't have a long time to eat the food, especially fruit and vegetables. Aside from that it's great.
There are aldi and lidil in Ireland, been to Aldi in Dublin while visiting there and in Germany while living there. Aldi in Ireland and Germany are bigger than here in NY
I’m an American/Brit (born USA but duel national) and Lidls hit the UK in 1995 (in the town where I was living) ….Aldi came not longer after . After some time (many years) they eventually took a bite out of the UK grocery market and are really a godsend for there keen prices. UK Lidl is actually cheaper than Germany 🇩🇪 lol 😂 and Aldi to .
Both great stores especially during such tough times !
I’m back in California for now not far from Long Beach 🏝️
Love the show Mike as always ❤
Take care dude and love to mom and gogo ❤
Lidl is also widely spread in Czech. Matter fact it is the cheapest grocery chain over there and therefore the most popular in terms of the number of shoppers.
From what I can find, there are only Lidl stores on the east coast of the US at this point. Just give it time and they will be in every state like Aldi. There are many Aldi’s in my state, and about two years ago or so, they opened one just down the street from me, however, I rarely go there, as most of their products are too strange. It gets me how many of their house brand products are packaged in similar design and color boxes as the US brands, and if you are not paying close attention to what you are buying, you might pick up an imposter product by mistake. Most are pretty much exactly the same as the name brand and just cheaper.
11:22 wow. I wish we had these prices in the U.S. The food prices in U.S have just skyrocketed. It is very hard to make it here now! Thanks for the video! And keeping us informed on prices abroad!
I have worked produce for 10 years, come home and watch German in Venice with more Produce! Part of my life all of it. I love seeing foreign farmer markets for items I have never had and of course price comparison! Thanks German! We Love LA!
Lidl is one of the best discounters in my opinion. They really have everything you need for a very cheap a price and most of the time it is quality. Lidl invested heavily in their store appearance and their product range over the last 25 years. Back in the day every discounter looked really cheap and old fashioned, kind of dirty at times but now the new stores are flooded with daylight and the aisles are wide enough for at least 2 shopping carts. I think Aldi still is in the leading position amongst discounters in europe but Lidl is really pushing them.
Tegut and Aldi are the best. Best priced Vegetables are in Lidl though. And yeah. Lidl is much better than 25 years ago.
I agree Lidl is my favorite grocery store when I am in Europe.
These videos are so interesting, fun and relaxing for me. Thank you!
Omg
This video makes me so happy
Lots of love to you and mom🙏❤️
I’m learning some German from watching your videos!
Nice looking fruits and vegetables in German store.
I love when you do these grocery, and restaurant videos. It helps me practice mein Deutsch. Your pronunciation helps a lot too
Love all your videos! Keep up the great work ❤! Big Hugs to you and your sweet mom!
I love that the Lidl and Rewe are right next to each other, literally in the same building, in my BiL's neighborhood in NRW. If one doesn't have what you need, walk 20 feet to the other. And despite being small stores, each has walls full of candy. And a bakery when you first walk in with fresh brötchen. Lecker!
I have that in my city too. first it was just a huge edeka-center, but then they massively shrunk it to make space for an aldi 😂
Great stuff!! Love these shopping videos!! 😘
I think that surimi is a type of sushi. Maybe it's the processed crab that they put in the California wrap.
In California we have Aldi and trader Joe's.
We have Lidls here in Maryland, love their bakery!!! Great prices.
Thank you for another interesting shopping trip mr GiV. I’ll keep watching your channel.
The bread looks so delicious. Never see that good bread in the stores i go to.
It's actually frozen bread they bake it daily. Not the greatest but very decent.
One hour to shop? I would be getting a ticket for sure 😂😂😂 Cherries here in South Texas are $5.99 a pound right now.
I was noticing that too, they are 8.99 a pound here in Los Angeles
Only 1 hour is pretty unusual IMO. Where I live in Germany you usually have 2-3 hours to shop. 🤷🏻♀️
This is a video made in summer. No cherries at all in February in German supermarkets.
@@eily_b Sure thing, all the trees are green 😂😂😂
It costs that much in expensive areas of Dallas. :)
Thanks Mike for being you, I like shopping too !!!
One of my favourite things to do when travelling is to visit the grocery stores. Kaufland in Germany was very interesting. So many varieties of black currant juice!
Thank you. I needed this one
German discipline and rules.
I admire it
Thank you for a awesome video I love going along with you
Hey GIV,if you want to go to a LIDL store the closest to Venice Beach is Pennsylvania. Have a good trip.😄
Mike GIV We shop at the one near Toms River every other week. Thank You for sharing
No parking restrictions yet at Lidl in the US, as far as I know. I like their croissants. Still looking for that curry ketchup though!
We have that time limit at most grocery store parking lots in Germany. But it’s mostly 2 or 3 hours instead of only one. The reasons is to prevent people from using it as a permanent parking space or as a parking space near a train station when they commute to work. Parking space it often very limited here. I would think in most places in the US they don’t have that problem.
Sie sind ein klasse Kerl! Man merkt Ihnen an, daß Sie immernoch eine Verbindung zu Ihrer Heimat haben. Ihnen u. Ihrer Mama alles Beste u. Gute! Ahoi u. Gudgohn!!🍀👍⚓🍀
Love your vlogs Mike!!!!!!!
I've never been to a Lidl's but we do have them in SC!
We do like Aldi's though!
Thanks so much for taking us along!!!!!
Cool that you have a video from June 2022. Interesting to compare now the prices!🎉
Mike you mentioned you were going to miss the prices in Germany because they are way cheaper than Trader Joe's and Ralph's in America. Both of those stores are expensive, but we go to a cheaper market in California called Stater Brothers. They are all over California. I'm sure there's one near you in Venice. And in my opinion the groceries are just as good there as the expensive stores. You should try shopping at Stater Brothers. You will save a lot of money.
I live in America, in the greater Atlanta area and there’s Lidl and Aldi stores everywhere. Lidl is much better with their bakery and prices are amazing!
I know this is off topic, however I would like it if you had a playlist of your videos. That way we can binge watch your videos. Thank you for the wonderful content.
Lidl reminds me of Aldi here in America. Thanks for sharing! ✌❤
Homer drinks the Duff beer, not Bart at least not until we see future Bart😎
Iv been to Lidl in the UK and on the east coast U.S. It looks like from their website they are in the eastern states only. Thanks for sharing. Always nice to see local places in Germany.
erst liken, dann anschauen :D war obwohl ich schon oft in nem LIDL war, wie immer ein unterhaltsames Video :)
Nice to hear you are coming back to America! my husband and I need to visit you again in Venice Beach
The first time I saw Lidl was in the film Run Lola Run. When I went to Germany in 2017, I bought a few things there.
Thank you for sharing I like that store so better than here in America I wish we had those prices here 🙂👍 hope your mom is doing well ☺️
Prices for liquor so so much cheaper there than here in anchorage alaska. When we lived in germany that we had a german landlady and we loved eating at her place of business....yum yum
We have Lidl here in sweden aswell since maybe 15 years ago . Its quiet popular here in sweden .
It's good to know I was always curious how much groceries are in Germany Thanks for the video
Love this as I live in South Florida where Aldi and Walmart are for my shopping needs. I do compare prices and find Aldi is better!!
Thanks for the tour GIV. I didn't know what German grocery store had. But , now I know.
Hi Mike! I like that Supermarket they have some good prices and yes they do have them in America, I don’t know if they have them in LA but I do know they have them In PA.!! I was always wondering what kind of food they had in there and because of you now I know so Thank You! Great video and Thank You for sharing it with us! And as ALWAYS please tell your Mom I said Hello!😉👋TSCHUESSING!!🤍🤍
From late 1970s onwards, I lived in Germany for 10 years. I still miss German shops.
I am often for Holidays in Spain. First Step what i do there..Shopping by Lidl for our Holidayflat. Lidl exist in so many Countrys..but in the USA i didn t see one..Aldi sure.
I am moving to Germany. Prices are dirt cheap next to the states. They have Lidl in Washington DC area. They came in in the last few years. I call it ALDI on steroids. Prices are really good there in Germany. I grocery shop all the time at WalMart in Florida and this beats prices by far here in the states. Thanks for the great video and hi to Mom and Gogo. U should have GoGo host a beer tasting video and talk about the prices and brands.
a day out at lidl is always a cheap date
The prices are great in that store
Hope Gogo and your Mom doing good
Enjoyed the Adventure.......Thanks
Great prices!
I gotta go food shopping in Germany! ❤️ To your Mom! ✌️🤍🙂
Anita🇳🇴
Wow, those quality products for those prices seem to be from another time! Or maybe I have to check at Lidl, but I think times have changed a little.
They are. Looks he made this video when he visited in summer 2019 maybe?
@@eily_b It’s from June 2022.
Wish they had this store in USA cause compared to the food prices here to Germany - Germany is cheaper than USA when it comes to this store's products. Good video GIV 👍🏻😊👍🏻
So cool, thank you and guten Flug ✈️ 🎉
Hope all is well with your mom's apartment building in Turkey after the quakes. Very glad you guys weren't there! Sending best wishes from SoCal - XOXO
GIV is the only YTer who makes grocery store videos interesting.
Hello Mike also here in Biella have opened for about 1 year the supermarket Aldi and I feel good, for the prices of Lidel even here nn are exposed very well are a bit 'messed up Good evening greets mom💕🌷
Lidl looks similar to Grocery Outlet (California, Oregon, Washington).
Hey Mike, my mother and myself love all of your videos. The next time you visit Germany will you show around the location The Battle of the Bulge? I'm a big tiger tank fan. Keep up the fantastic work and the best to you you and your mother.
And I would love to camp out in the ardennes forest in Germany.
I live in NYC...shocked at these prices... very reasonable.
Thanks for the tour, GIV! Arnold likes the schnitzel! :D
I love the schnitzel and I'm not even a German. And sausages. And sauerkraut. Hold on... **asking mom if she ever visited Germany**
Thanks for your interesting, down to earth videos, love them. So Lidl is my #1 store I visit during weekly grocery shopping in NL, after that comes Albert Hein for "the rest". They don't do paper coupons but they have an app, in which you can select all kinds of specials and activate them before you pay. All paperless, very efficient, I like that. Keep up that good work!
I really enjoyed poking around this store with you.
Nice, relaxing video.
Thank you for the vi'd german! Very interesting
In the U.K. there is a cost of living crisis at the moment, with food prices and energy bills skyrocketing. But Lidl’s has done a good job, so far, to keep prices low, except a few exceptions, like cheese and smoked salmon for example. Items I like to buy. But the fillet of salmon in Lidl’s is so much cheaper than other supermarkets, and that’s why I keep coming back to do the bulk of my shopping there. There chocolate is nice too. 70% Dark chocolate I buy, having that with some warm porridge, melting the dark chocolate in the porridge with some added almonds and Brazil nuts. And in a separate dish, some defrosted blueberries, strawberries, and banana with a dollop of kefir yoghurt added on top. All bought from Lidl’s. It’s a great discount store Mike, that doesn’t take liberties with prices.
Hi Mike , be glad you are back in Germany, after that awful earthquake in Turkey. That is so sad. Is your mom place OK ?
Mike the more videos the better, great stuff. Glad Mom is doing well. I really look forward to your videos. I would like to see you visit the location of the 1936 Olympics.
They even have them here on Gran Canaria!
Sweet of you to get your Mom flowers 💐.
I was surprised you never been in one.
At my place in North Rhine Westphalia/ Bielefeld. There are at least 3. Aldi is still king around here. But I prefer Lidl.
The aldis are to busy and trashed out
If you don't get to them first in the morning. The one lidl I was at in the USA
Was impressive. Clean and stocked. I look forward to being home for osternfest. Your German home not that far from me. So shern gruss for you and your mom. Have a great spring!
I love ❤ your shopping VIDEOS ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
OH! I can't shop in an hour, so that's unusual to me. I'd grab a bunch of those chocolate bars at that price!!
A LOT of those food products are much cheaper than here in New Mexico. Interesting video. Thank you.
And the tax is already included.
The asparagus(pale yellow)must be a different type than we normally grow in the US & I've grown it(first to come up in spring) & it comes up green 🤷🏼♀️
Its called white gold in the Netherlands because its expensive fresh. Its grown in rows of risen mounts and is cut underground near the root with a long steel thin metal shaft with a split blade at the end thats kept pretty sharp. Its back breaking work. The mounts are about knee high. When the aspergies peek their heads out of the soil with 2x fingers follow it down to where the root is and thats when the tool comes in to cut it as long as possible. Its not to be cut above ground where it turns green.
In Germany we eat mostly white asparagus. It’s a whole thing and there is even special season for it. The other comment already explained how it’s grown. But it’s basically the same plant as green asparagus. When I was younger I didn’t even know asparagus could be green 😅 But today I really like the green variation too.
It’s popular to eat it the white variation with a schnitzel, potatoes and top the asparagus with sauce hollandaise. You can also top it with butter and bread crumbs. White asparagus is also very good as a soup.
@@sphhyn I bet it's more tender than the up shoots 💞
@@vogeltik 👍🏼💜
the ones in jars you find in supermarkets are ALWAYS from China.
My girlfriend's weathly parents in Ireland snuck into the local Lidl when it opened. They went all the time then, and would meet their other neighbours there. There was a "snob" prejudice against Lidl when it came to Ireland. But now everyone goes there. And remember, Lidl's wines and spirits have won *global* awards in blind tastings with the industry leaders.
Great video!
That last part. We used to pay 2 cents for a 12 oz and 3 cents on 16 oz RC colas on deposit for the glass pop bottles in the early 1960's. Us kids use to hunt these down in trashcans and on vacant lots where the teens used pop as mixers at their booze parties as the used beer and liquor bottles were worthless. Candy bars and popsicles were 5 cents with some pieces a penny and pop was 7 cents a bottle at that time. Candy money. In SoCal, ba-by!
I have a Lidl just across the street. It's not bad. The wife prefers Shop rite. We go to Lidl once in awhile for an occasional item. Thanks for the comparison!
Hi mike i live in Torrance Scotland and we have exactly the same Lidl here only difference is the alcohol is very expensive here , brilliant video as always 🙏🙏
You have proven that Germany is better than USA in pricing
Hi Mike. Maybe if you can before you leave you and Gogo can do a Beer taste test 🤣 since he is an expert. All those beers in the stores it might be a fun video and cheap! See ya soon in Venice:) Ronna from Arizona
We shop at both Lidl & Aldi, but Lidl frequently rings up the wrong price and it's a pain to have them correct it so our vote goes to Aldi.
1986-1989 I used to go to Lidl from the Berufschule and buy snacks before getting on the Bus to go Home
Very nice and quite store.
Thanks bro German Venice for sharing this awesome video about the Germany grocery store looks like it's pretty cheap I like that anyway thank you so much and have a great night much love sincerely Suszie
